We had an iron driveway fence that was desperately in need of replacement. We contacted Penn Fencing of Butler to give us an estimate for a similar replacement. It wasn't going to be a big job, only about 56' of ornamental fencing and Penn Fencing scheduled our Estimator, Charlie to visit a few days after calling them in early March. We received the Estimate a few days later and the pricing was comparable to the other quotes we gathered. Penn Fencing came recommended to us by 3WS's Johnny Hartwell and we went with his advice and selected them for the work. It has only taken five (5) weeks for the materials to arrive and the install to be scheduled. Kevin and his two (2) man crew arrived promptly at 8:30am, to do the work and they were finished in about 90 minutes. No mess, no inconvenience, and they disposed of our old fencing for us. The fence looks great! I did have to go back and tighten a few screws, but it wasn't a big deal. We are very pleased with the job they did and would recommend them for your project. read more

About two years ago, my neighbor hired Penn Fencing to install a vinyl fence at our property line, and this past year, we considered hiring Penn Fencing again to build additional fencing. The existing fence (see the attached photo) looks very nice and sturdy, but it does not enclose my neighbor's and my entire yards. As a result, we contacted Penn Fencing for estimates to build two additional fences of the same style. The estimator Charlie arrived at my neighbor's and my houses on time. Charlie took accurate measurements, and he emailed us our estimates in a couple of days. My neighbor and I felt thankful that the same style and color of fence was in stock, but the price roughly doubled since two years ago, and the price was several hundred dollars higher than a competing company's estimate. We understand that the cost of vinyl is expensive right now, I assume because the cost of the ethylene in vinyl comes from natural gas and petroleum that have high prices currently. My neighbor, though, did not like that Penn Fencing wanted to charge him $99 per square foot versus my $60 per square foot, because his fence would be shorter than mine. Then Penn Fencing agreed to give my neighbor my lower rate only if my neighbor removed his existing, old fence himself. At this point, because of the high pricing, my neighbor and I will likely postpone our additional fencing until next year. Charlie told me that he keeps estimates for two years, so he can easily update the cost based on the same measurements. For now, I will give a rating of 4 stars, because I feel happy with the existing fence. I will update my review if I ever purchase the additional fencing... Had a black 4.5ft aluminum fence installed in our backyard for our dog, and long-term for a pool. Quoting process was quick and the sales rep was local and personable. We had 269 ft of fencing required so it was a very large area. Before signing the quote/contract in early OCT we were given a install estimate of 10 weeks. Our install ended up being the end of OCT (roughly 3 weeks after signing the contract). The installers were friendly and punctual. The install took a little over 3 business days with 2 men performing the work. One gentleman who installed the fence didn't speak English so the other gentleman was required to serve as an interpreter for any discussion regarding the installation. Several discussions were required due to the large area and configuration of our yard. This wasn't a roadblock but I can see how it may concern or frustrate other potential clients. My only complaint would be that along the back portion of our fence a lot of dirt/rocks were left along the fence. We did experience a lot of rain the week prior to the install but the other 4 sections of the fence were cleared of dirt/rocks so I'm not sure why the back (and longest portion) of the fence was not cleared of debris like the rest of the fence perimeter. There were a lot of leaves as well from my neighbors tree so that may have contributed to this issue. All-in-all, the install went well and resulted in a quality fence that looks great. The other lack luster experience was after signing the quote, the sales rep took several days to respond to an inquiry we made regarding installation and financing. Penn fencing offered 0% for 18 months, which is why we elected to go with them, but the process to sign-up for it is less than seamless. We're still waiting to see that be reflected on our WellsFargo account, who they use for the financing. I will update this review if there is any discrepancy as far as the financing offer. This was a huge investment so I'm being extra critical but also trying to be fair/transparent in my review. read more

I recently had a 6ft vinyl chain link fence installed at my new home. My sales person, Sundeana was very nice. prompt and helpful. My appointment arrived within my 3-4 week window. However, things went sour on installation day. The crew we had working at our home, rushed through our job in a matter of hours. The poles were barely wrapped in ties, the tension wire was 6" high from the bottom. The slack in the fence was horrific. Around 1pm, the crew left without saying a word. We assumed that the flappy fence and partially tied wraps were due to the job not being finished. The gates were still missing, so we thought when they came to install the gates that they would finish tightening the fence. The next day came and gone, and I had been under the impression that they would complete the fence in two consecutive days. I reached out to my sales person to see when the crew would be coming back. I was then told that the installer hurt themselves on another job, and they wouldn't be able to come back until late the following week. I was due to leave town and I could not leave my disabled Dad home with no fence to let our dog out into the yard. I called the manager, Sallie. She had a totally different story on why they would not be able to come back until late the following week. She said that the gates were called in for our job but not created yet, and that they would not be willing to make a special trip to deliver our gates since it missed the delivery truck, and we would have to wait that week until the delivery truck made it's round again. I urged how unacceptable this was, and miraculously Sallie was able to get the gates to our home early that following week, which I was very thankful for. Unfortunately, my thankfulness was overshadowed by what happened next. The installers seemed to rush through the job, hanging one gate so low/crooked that it scraped the ground and opened half way. Apparently they didn't bother to check it, the second gate was a double gate which the pole barely went into the ground to keep it shut, because it was mounted so high. The ties around the vertical fence posts were barely "bent", and not twisted. The tension wire was 6" from the bottom, and the fence was still flappy and loose. Within minutes of letting our dog out, he found a weak spot and was able to crawl half of his 71lb body under the fence! Ridiculous. I reached back out to the manager, who at first was insisting that the fence should have give, and you can't stretch a vinyl fence tight because it will distort the diamond pattern. I was told "But our installers came and squeezed you in and made another appt late, and they wrote a bad review for us over it". How is that my problem? It should've been done right the first time. She asked for pictures, in which I sent a few and a video of my husband who could stick his entire leg out of the fence with very little effort, due to the loose nature of the fence and the fact that the tension wire was anything but tense. She agreed to come out herself and bring an installer that next morning. She and that installer agreed that it was wrong, and basically re-did our fence. Everything from fixing the two gates, to re-stretching the fence. She agreed that the tension wire was installed incorrectly as well as the lack of hog rings and that the ties were not done correctly and there were parts of the fence that were installed too high off the ground. All of this was fixed, which was great. But the fact that I had to argue and beg my way through this entire process, is unacceptable to me. The installers did such a bad job, that it's impossible that they left feeling confident that it was hung even partially correct. They didn't even put a Penn Fence name plate on it, probably because they didn't want to advertise how poorly it was done. Penn Fence is apparently understaffed, rushing through jobs, and the installers are beyond not created equal. I have had two friends use them this summer and they had great fences done right the first time. Guess I would rate their service "Hit or Miss". read more

Penn Fencing originally put up my fence about 7 years ago. Recently I had to gave a gate rehung. They came out and gave me an estimate of $400. I asked what exactly they were going to do and was told "we won't know for sure until the technicians get here". They sent 2 guys out with a small bag of concrete. They came when they had another job in the area and never told me they were coming. They were there less than 1 and a half hours but they charged me the full $400 plus tax for labor and materials. I called to ask why is was so much and was told that "it was a discounted price". Looks like their hourly rate is $135.00 per hour per man. This is the worst experience!!!! we ordered fence in Sept. it took weeks to get. Did not get all that was ordered. Took weeks to get, and they sent the wrong products. Got the fence up, all but what they shorted us, and no gates. And fence is falling down. I called and called, and finally they sent a claims guy out two weeks ago, this is January now and the brackets were not welded properly. CertainTeed Corp. said they would send brackets, and posts, but will not pay for installation. I had to pay for it the first time, and now I have to pay for it to be taken down and reinstalled. The fence is Ecostone Granite Simtek Panels. Once you pay Penn Fencing they are done with you. My project is a large one it cost me 29,798.68 just for the fence, then I had to pay a contractor to put it up. Think hard before you go through this. read more

I contacted Penn Fencing's CEO, Mr. Chad Galbreath regarding the uneven installation of my fence. He personally contacted me by email, phone, and came to look at the fence. He agreed it was not visibly pleasing to look at and adjusted the fence himself. One section that attaches to the gate can not be adjusted any further or the gate won't open. It's very close and I want to use the gate. If I did not have to go through the process of getting it adjusted correctly I would have given them a higher rating. read more

This is our first time using Penn Fencing, and it will be our last. The ordering process was simple enough, and we settled for a white vinyl fence (to replace our wooden one). After filling out the necessary paperwork for financing and getting approved, we waited for several weeks to be contacted by Penn Fencing to say that they were ready to schedule the install (they said it was take a few weeks at least to get the materials together, which was perfectly fine). After about a month, we finally got a call from a manager saying they've been trying to get in touch with us to start on the fence ASAP, as they had crews ready to go (I'm not sure what "trying to get in touch" meant, because they only called us once). We couldn't have them start immediately, so we scheduled it for the week of Sept. 12th. (about 2-3 weeks later). The crew on-site was very professional and did a good job removing our old fence, but then some problems arose: first, they didn't actually have all the materials needed to make our fence. I thought this was incredibly odd given that Penn Fencing wanted to start weeks before and claimed to have everything ready to go. The issue with this was we needed the fence done that same week (they said it would take 4-5 days) because we have dogs and our neighbors were out of town that one week (we didn't want to disturb them too much with the construction). We also had a newborn baby at home, and I was leaving the following week for work. So, instead of 4-5 days, they took 8-9 days (including the weekend). When they finished, they also left materials all over our yard (including our own hoses), which I had to clean up. The delay in finishing was annoying, but here's the BIG issue: the fence in many places has up to 10" of space between the ground and the bottom of the fence. During construction, they told me there would be about 2" but they could get it closer if needed. I said 2" would be fine, but getting it closer would be great if they could....but 10 INCHES?? So far my dogs, which are mid-sized (35-50 lbs) have nearly been able to crawl under the fence without even digging. We called Penn Fencing about it, and they basically told us that we could use some materials to block it off in those locations (yes, they told us WE could do that on our own). So, I actually had to get small fencing materials myself and have used it on about 10-15 ft of the fence so far. Aside from the aesthetic issues with that, another problem is that the gates themselves have 10" of space, and if I block that off or you can't open them. So to recap: We spend nearly $20,000 on a new fence, and they leave large enough gaps in it that it negates the entire reason we got the fence in the first place. Their customer service suggestion was that WE fix it ourselves. The fence overall looks great (hence the 2 stars instead of 1), but I didn't anticipate spending that much money and then having to fix it myself. read more

We liked the quote provided to us so we sent our deposit check in soon after. We knew they were booking far out but when we hadn't heard from them in over 6 weeks to check in with us after cashing our check, I called both Matt and John (the scheduler) multiple times with no call back. It wasn't until I called back mad that my phone calls were instantly returned with an estimated start date.
