For students studying to be a VET TECH: Classes were fine, professors were fine, but here I am trying to graduate and all I have left is my externship. I live in Southern California, so having the requirement to work at a large animal hospital was not going to be an easy find. I'm a very reasonable person and asked Penn Foster for help on finding sites. They provided me with a list to which I found out that most of the sites don't allow students who are trying to become Vet Techs (only allowed Vets). After searching for a month, I found a place up north (about 8 hours away) where I could do my large animal requirements (mind you I work full time and have to request off AND have to pay for housing). I was able to complete most of my large animal requirements and when I arrived home, I submitted my work. They told me I had to redo some of the skills, to which I replied, "Can you pay my hourly wages and my housing then?" So I asked for a supervisor to reason with them. That went no where. I'm not looking for shortcuts here but when I spend my time and energy trying to graduate and it's not being honored, there's no point in even starting the program. Currently looking to transfer just to graduate so I can move on with my life. read more

I took my time, at first timing was a challenge, took a mind break tyring to gather myself back on track, got back on track and finished, even paying monthly payments, yes, was a bit challenging, especially after a layoff, but honestly, felt confused at times, but do understand that dedication and tools are there, I chose not to use or procrastinated at times. I just finished, and am planning on going for my Associates, and was even advised that the courses taken, some may be transferred and might not have to retake, but they were also honest to advise, there are some I may have to, so do appreciate the honesty! Boy, is it a nightmare trying to get through to anyone. I have called four days in a row, and I called a couple times a few weeks ago. I have been disconnected from chat multiple times because nobody is available, then when I do get someone they redirect me to another chat queue or they tell me to call. I sit on hold for an hour or so, then inevitably I realize my call is not going to be taken. I have also emailed to no avail. This is my last semester of the vet tech program and my course expired. I am just wondering what I need to do to reactivate it. The last semester is a free of charge one so I need to know if I will be required to start over completely on this semester so I can get myCAA in line to pay the semester or if I just need to file an extension. Well where shall I startI had high hopes and wanted this online school to work for me but this is by far the worst school I have ever experienced in my life .So I enrolled myself into the vet tech program and was sold on the idea that I would be skilled and ready to work in the vet field. I was doing extremely well ( online classes) but I started realizing that the ONLY reason I was doing so well is because I was learning through google more than the course was providing me. Than I noticed I wasn't REALLY learning anything from the course itself. The only reason why I was scoring high is because I'd find answers through google and it just became a thing to where I'd google it get the answers and put them in and boom get an a. I totally felt I wasn't actually learning anything. I reached out for help through their community portals , left emails to instructors and no one reached back to me. I was totally bewildered. While going through this , I called all the clinics and hospitals that were in decent distances ( up till about 2 hrs away) and all of them said they only extend help to actual vet students and so I guess didn't acknowledge PF as a real school. I was so frustrated by that point and then to find out that the credits were of no use to the board of vets licensing!! That PF was and is NOT accredited even though PF said it was! Stupid me for not researching the heck out of this school BEFORE I gave them money. So I ended up canceling my account and of course had a balance of 700+ well I made payment arrangements with them and from what I understood I could pay every 3rd month of 60 dollars and they won't send to collections well I decided to pay them every 2nd or 3rd of the month even though I could pay them in full and be done with it , I'd rather be slow to pay just as they were slow to no help for me . The whole school was useless to me and so I'd figure I'd pay it forward. Well lo and behold I started get these nasty , vicious payment letters by the senior Vice President mark slayton , I tried to get in contact with him to let him know of his degrading , and harassing statements, he was using scare tactics , saying things like my credit will be effected , that I won't be able to get any type of loans and to further say about employers will not hire me either. I want to tell his ass this: I just bought a beautiful home, have the vehicles I want, my career as a nurse is stable and sound. My credit lines are super high with 0 balances, the ONLY debt I carry is PF that if mark slayton or whom ever sends my account to collections, it won't put a dent to my credit score! It's to high I have already spoken with a debt advisor and my buddy who works at the credit bureaus:),.. however I just now decided to just pay them off and be done with it lick my wounds and have this as a learning lesson for me. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews. DO NOT accept the terms and payments unless you are SERIOUS about completing the program. I first finished my high school diploma they even honored credits from my old high school and deducted off the amount I owed. Now i am finishing up my degree for accounting. I have never had any issues with Penn Foster. If I'm ever late on payments they work with you. Never had issues with not getting help from teachers or customer service. Again, If you are not serious about finishing these programs do not apply , you will more than likely not get all your money back. read more

First let me say that I am not a student. I'm an engineer working for a well known test equipment manufacturer. I've been trying to help one of our employees through this course, and frankly I'm horrified. The training materials are often incorrect, causing you to take a WAG on the quizzes. When the electronics trainer (breadboard) came, the components received did not match the devices specified in the experiments. Also some of the experiments as described flat out cannot work based on the design. Unfortunately the quiz questions are based on the experiments, so again there is often no correct answer. Back to a WAG. It's a shame that a course that's advertised to help someone learn electronics ends up leaving the student completely confused. Don't buy this course! read more

For all of those people looking at negative reviews and who may be on the fence about Penn Foster, let me just say --- you should have zero apprehension! Is there room for improvement? Sure, but this school is so much more than that! They are a phenomenal group of people! I saw all of those wacky reviews, and I myself was unsure about enrolling, but I am so glad, or really rather relieved that I did! The team of people representing the staff are fantastic and super helpful. There is a large online community where you can interact with fellow students, faculty and instructors; whether in a social capacity or to get help with your current course. I conducted a LOT of research before landing on Penn Foster as the school I chose to enroll in. My reasons were more than a few. The affordability of the programs, the national accreditation, the comprehensiveness of the curriculum, the accessibility of support personnel if needed, the distance learning system that Penn Foster has created with interactive courses and materials rather than just being an online education provider without a face, an abundance of resources at your disposal, etc. My advice? Enroll! You will be glad you made that step toward bettering your future! read more

I honestly don't understand the negative reviews!!!!!!!! I have completed my High School Diploma with Penn Foster and have completed my College Degree in Medical Assisting with them as well. I Graduated Penn Foster College in 2013 and received a position right after I graduated. I Currently have a wonderful work position and enjoy helping people. The schools instructors were all very knowledgeable and I was very pleased with my experiences with Penn Foster High School and Penn Foster College. When I enrolled in this program, I paid in full for the first semester. I spoke to an admissions adviser, who told me I would get refunded for any transfer credits I received after enrolling. I did get credit for biology in October, and I still have not been refunded. I have been wasting so much time and anxiety trying to get this resolved, but no one there is willing to help. read more

Do not enroll in this school. I actually took courses here in 2009 and blew through them so fast it wasn't funny. Well I just applied for a job that wanted proof that I was enrolled here. I had fallen behind on my payments in 2009 due to the economic crash. When I called to try to resolve the payments today, I found out that despite paying for over half of my courses, they still wanted me to pay the full amount for all of the courses I took. Until you make all of the payments in full for the classes you take, they will not release any of your transcripts. If your employer calls to verify that you had studied there they will not even verify to your employer that you have taken classes there. I was never contacted about any of my past due balance either and they keep sending the account into collections is what I found out after I spoke with them today. They refused to even give me credit for the payments I have made or work with me. I think it's horrible that that despite paying half of the account off, they still want to charge me more then they charge new students. Oh yes, a call to the BBB and the department of education will be made this week regarding this issue and they can stuff their certificate where it counts. They will also tell you that they are regionally and nationally accredited but after reading a article today about a guy who was awarded a ton of money for their false claims .... I found out that is only half true. They are only regionally accredited. I will be talking to the department of education about the false claims they made to me as well. read more

I canceled once, they didn't cancel me. I call back and the only this the operator said is I Don't know why it didn't cancel, it's not in my system. Even though I got a email from them saying they did. I asked to speak to a manager, they said NO! How can a school even do that. At the end I got no answer and still have to pay $600. I have been involved with Penn Foster for almost a decade now and for various different things. I can honestly say I never had a bad experience with them. I can't help but laugh at all the negative reviews. The people posting them clearly weren't aware of any of the policies from this school. Obviously you need to pay for it, and obviously you don't get your degree/certificate unless you are paid off with them. It's not that hard of a concept, other colleges function the same. Throughout the past decade now, I have earned an Associates in Early Childhood Development and a certificate in Freelance Writing. Currently, I have completed one semester towards the Bachelor in Business Management and one semester towards an Associate's in Graphic Design, and I am currently interested in another certificate course to help with my current job. Have I landed jobs with this education? Yes. I was a lead preschool teacher at a private learning center for three years after getting my Associate's in Early Childhood Education from Penn Foster. My employer accepted the degree and I paid more for having it, plus I was able to be "in charge" of my own curriculum because I was formally taught how to. But honestly it was not my dream job and that it why I am pursuing other options. Not once have I come across "hidden fees", or issues with contacting them for any reason. I even picked up my degree at their location in Scranton and they posted the photo to their facebook! I have a friend who works here, as well, and she enjoys it. The issue with online courses is - you have to be self disciplined to complete them on your own which a lot of these reviewers don't seem to have the ability to do. People think they can google all the answers and then quickly get their "education". If its you're personal problem, then don't make a bad review about the school. The reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I do believe the courses could be updated a bit to keep up with modern information. The courses I took back in 2011 for the associates degree are the same ones offered to me now for the Bachelor's program so in that regard I will agree that they should be updating things more regularly but its not enough for me to say I dont want to continue. read more

Waste of $700. Their computer program is all over the place for the medical billing and coding program. I had no idea where I was in the program. So I called to see if I graduated and got some guy with a snotty attitude say I'm only half way through the program. After searching I finally found the other assignments I need to do. Then I get more books in the mail. You never know what your getting and when. Cant get ahold of a teacher. If you fail an assignment the teacher returns it to you, opens up the assignment to do it again but never tells you what you did wrong so you can learn. I am learning nothing from this program. I'm 50% through and have no clue about MB&C. Google becomes your best friend because they dont teach you anything. And theres no way I can get a job in MB&C after this because I didnt learn anything. I am in the Bachelor's degree program for business management and absolutely have had no problems with Penn Foster. I over paid $200 and within 1 day it was debited back to my bank account. You do have to be self disciplined and very motivated to get through your course work its not real easy but nothing is that's worth having. I highly recommend Penn Foster and with out them I would never have been able to afford to go back to college to get a bachelor's degree. I will owe no student loans upon finishing unlike the other college I went to and owe 16,000 for a medical assistant diploma certification after using a full pel grant so yes Penn Foster is amazing. read more

I went here and got my high school diploma. I can say I didn't really have any problems after I graduated because I got accepted into my number 1 choice college and we'll be starting there in the spring of 2016. Can't say much about the college though but I do want to go there for Wedding Planner. But common sense will tell you to ask your state department of education about nationally accredited colleges and do they accept degrees from nationally accredited college that's what I did . That's why I didn't choose to go to Penn Foster College for Early Childhood Education because Virginia only accept licensee etc from regionally accredited colleges. read more

Do NOT go to this school!!! I signed up for the school because my wife took some classes to become a vet tech. She was able to get the job without even completing the degree. She said that they were a great school where I could take classes at my own pace, that much was true. However, I had paid for my course in FULL with the promise that any credits that were transferred would come out of the cost. The credits transferred and instead of the money being returned to my bank account they turned it into a credit on my Penn Foster account. I called them about 4 months later to request that the money be transferred to my bank account. They said that they attempted to transfer the money, several times. I gave them my debit card number, my account number, and even called my bank. It's been 4 more months now and I have yet to see the money. I called at least ever 10 days, which is their requested processing time. I even offered to show my bank statements to prove that the money had not been transferred, but to no avail. My last call to them was to tell them that I would be contacting a lawyer. They are a SCAM school and I hope to sue them for all the bull***t they've put me through! read more

I never got an advisor, no one ever called me to follow up after sign up. Never knew the professors name. I hadnt logged in in at least a year and a half and no one ever called to follow up. The only time they EVER called was to get updated payment info. So clearly they dont care about your education as long as theyre getting their money. Penn Foster operates more like a used car sales lot rather than a school. Just like there are used car lots who prey on poor people there are businesses who prey on the under educated. I was attracted to Penn Foster because while I'm enrolled in a traditional university I wanted to get my feet wet in the industry I'm ultimately studying for. Penn Foster appeared and claimed to offer something that would be both beneficial and doable, but what I got was a joke. I advise anyone looking to "enroll" (purchase) a course to do as much research as possible. There were certain things which would've been hard for me to find out about if I didn't know someone who took the course (which I didn't) like the way proctored exams work. I'm not complaining about them personally as they wouldn't have been an issue for me. I never got that far anyway, but why couldn't they have been obvious before signing an "enrollment agreement" (which is really just a contract that makes sure the company has caught their sucker, once signed you have to pay a certain amount $$$ even if you don't do much of the course). Just one example of the lack of transparency. So you may be enticed to just enroll ASAP because of the payment plans. Be careful. If you are decently intelligent and not super slow at finishing your modules you will likely find yourself ahead of the curve. You will not be allowed to move forward until a lump sum is paid off. You chose the payment plan for a reason, right? So, it's likely you don't have said lump sum sitting around. Also clicking ahead will lock you into owing the company more money. I found my course way too easy, I thought about switching to a harder course and decided to call to inquire. I was told that it would be fine that my current course would be stopped and I'd have to pay $$$ still, but I could enroll in the other course. At that point I went from owing next month's small payment to a huge lump sum and not being in any course. Next thing I know a rude ass collector is calling me. Wow! Basically after this inquiry Penn Foster threw me, a "student", the side as if I had just dropped out when that was not what was discussed or how the situation was presented. After more reading and researching I realize Penn Foster may not even allow me to finish the course I asked to switch from even after I paid for more than half of it (yet did not get halfway through that course). So my money spent was a waste and a very rude and unprofessional collector (which says a lot about PF) is hounding me for a lump sum. I have read MANY reviews, and I focus mostly on the complaints and negative reviews, mostly because I want to see why Penn Foster seems to have a bad rap in their online presence. When I read these reviews this is what I have seen: People who did not do their research before committing, people who clearly don't read what they're electronically signing and signing up for a program they didn't want to be financially committed to, people who aren't making their payments, people who want to quit and don't like the repercussions which are CLEARLY outlined in the fine print of the contract that you signed. The contract is very long, as are most contracts for financial commitments. It is YOUR responsibility to read it in full before signing. If you don't, it's not Penn Foster's fault that you are upset. There have been a few legitimate problems a few years ago with the advertising of their transferable credits, but that has since been updated. Just because a college is ACCREDITED does not mean that it's credits will transfer directly. You can find that with a lot of colleges. I went to one local community college, transferred to another and had to retake classes that didn't directly transfer. Penn Foster is more of a trade school, so of course it's credits wont be a direct transfer to a community college/university. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE SIGNING CONTRACTS. Also, NO college can 100% guarantee that you will receive a job after finishing their program. Whether you receive a job is going to depend on: your education, past job experience, your resume, how you present yourself, etc...If you are having trouble finding a job after finishing your Penn Foster program, that is not a Penn Foster problem, that is a YOU problem. Now for my experience: I knew exactly what I was signing up for. I enrolled in their travel agent program. The program was well put together and had a lot of great information. I was able to work at my own pace, which was at a faster pace than their "Fast Track" calendar, which was appreciated. But they also give you (if I'm not mistaken) about 2 years to complete the program, so there is really no excuse not to complete it if you're even halfway committed. I signed up to have my payments taken directly from my account monthly, but was also given the option of paying in full up front to get a discount. This is a nice option to have. I was not in a spot financially to put it all up front, but I appreciated that this was something I could have done. They have the option to send in a check every month, it will cost you more in the long run to do this, but obviously it has to be that way because of so many people not sending in their monthly payments (read the reviews). I have called in to Customer Service twice, once for help getting signed up with my account when I first registered and once when the system seemed to be down. The reps were kind and professional both times. I never had to reach out to a professor, but I also found the information to be easy to understand, so that wasn't necessary. I did go through the student forums as well, and while I never posted a question, I found quite a bit of helpful information from reading the responses to students that had asked questions in the past. At the end of the day, you're going to get out of this experience what you put in to it. If you are committed to your education, then you will do your research to make sure this is the right program for you (if the program didn't work for you, it wasn't the programs fault, it was your own fault for not choosing the right program), putting time in to study, paying your tuition (as you have to at ANY college), and actually doing the work and exams. If you do all of those things, you will be successful in your program at Penn Foster. read more

I attended Penn Foster Career College for a little over 2 years. I finished a program in Medical Transcription in January 2015. The program was easily understood as well as instructions and the help options and contact with instructors was beyond what i expected. However, for the field i was going into and the work I intended to do, i found out that this program is not accredited by the associations i need to be able to utilize the education i paid for. So now ontop of not having the environmental experience i now dont have a diploma that can be used for anything, My only advice is to double check and see if the area you live accepts the accreditations this school has. read more

This school is terrible. My husband has been awaiting grades since he completed his second semester in November 2017. It is almost March and he STILL does not have grades. They promised they would be done last week and they are not completed. The student services told him "sometimes things fall through the cracks". This is UNACCEPTABLE. I enrolled in the Penn foster program to get my high school diploma, but due to some stuff pop up I canceled within the time period so I wouldn't be charged and locked in, this was back in June it's now November and out of nowhere they start calling me wanting 1600$!!!! And they submitted my account to a debt agency, I told the debt agency I canceled and that I don't owe nothing she said call the school because they tell them what to do, I called numerous times and you have to enter your student ID to do anything and I did and it kept telling me I couldn't talk to them and that I need to call the debt agency and pay. Wasn't gonna happen. So I called under a new student line and told them to transfer me to student care now. The first lady said I didn't call to cancel and I needed to pay and that once they submit an account to the debt agency that they can't get it back. So I called the agency again the lady said they were lying and they would just have to contact their higher ups. My credit was on the line in 4 days if they didn't knock this shit off so I called back and got transfered to a different person they told me I did cancel Penn foster and that they didn't mean to send it to the debt agency. Yeah bullcrap! So they supposedly revoked it from the debt agency but they said I still owe $500 in a liability fee. Goodluck with that Penn foster! Horrible experience! Stay away from any programs they offer. They have hidden fees all over the place. They are not understanding of your circumstances & they are very money hungry. Such a shame. I enrolled so I could view how the courses are set up, to see if the program would be a good fit for my mom who just retired & looking into finding another job. I would like her to go back to school and try to get a degree. Their refund policy is 100% refund within first 6 days. I unfortunately had a very stressful and confusing week last week due to getting laid off my from job & forgot to unenroll myself from the program. I know owe Penn Foster over $400 because of a simple mistake and just a couple days out of their refund policy. I DO NOT recommend Penn Foster. I have been enrolled at Penn Foster for a few months now. At the beginning it was fine but now I am very unsatisfied with this school. I am enrolled in the medical billing and coding program, for the most part the course work is easy as it is just taking notes. The problem is the course exams, they are impossible to pass! The course tests are very weird because the questions on the test do not seem to match up with the course lesson. While doing my coursework I would take at least 10-20 pages of notes and when it came time to take the course test it was very difficult because the test questions were random questions that have nothing to do with the lesson. Very frustrating when you take the time to take 20 pages of notes and then you find out it was a waste of time because it has nothing to do with the lesson test. I wanted two switch majors and made a call to them two months ago, in those two months I followed every thing I was advised to do to the T, then I make a call to get the ball rolling only to find out almost everything he advised me was incorrect to the point where I am out $772. That's a lot of money for me.... A LOT. After more then two and a half hours on the phone with numerous people at the school (including two hang up from them!) they refused to fix THEIR MISTAKE! I repeat a representative from there school made several mistakes while advising a student and they are unwilling to work with said student. A student with a 4.0 GPA, who was always at least a week early for all due dates, and who PAID IN FULL!!! I did exactly what I was told to do and they screwed me over. read more
