I went to a fun and fancy event at the Penn Harris Hotel recently. It was beyond cool. I enjoy an overnight stay here every year when I attend the PA Wounded Warrior Gala and I've always enjoyed the food and the accommodations but to experience the Penn Harris like this was extra special. We had a 1920's awards dinner and the Penn Harris staff got involved. I loved seeing everyone's take on the "Roaring 20's." It really transformed you back into that era. We were given a tour of the newly renovated rooms and were told the history of the Penn Harris Hotel . They have a display case of Penn Harris artifacts and a large mural honoring its history is in the lobby. If you look close you can see a picture of the original hotel in one of its sections. I was really impressed with the beautifully updated bar, (also playing along) staffed with the best, straight out of the 1920's! There was a live pianist as entertainment, a gentleman with a long history of playing there!. And lastly, a five course dinner each perfectly paired with wine! First course: Sparkling Rosé paired with a focaccia bread and whipped butter with a side of garlic spread or tomato jelly. Second Course: A dry Red wine and the best salad I've ever tasted. It had squash, Brussels sprouts, chickpeas, and craisins, on arugula. Maybe some light oil and a sprinkle of salt... it was so light, fresh, and flavorful! Third course: Semi Dry wine. Shredded Brussels sprouts with bacon jam and a balsamic vinaigrette. Fourth: the same wine with the main course of Roasted duck, mashed potatoes and carrots Fifth: White wine paired with a deconstructed tiramisu! I don't even like tiramisu and I ate mine and half of someone else's. I don't think there was one thing put in front of me that I didn't like. The Penn Harris Hotel chef and staff really outdid themselves with this event. I cannot wait to see what the Historic Penn Harris has in store for us in the future! read more

OMG what a great experience and history lesson, we had the privilege to get a tour and learn some history of both Penn Harris hotel locations. After the tour we had a 5 course meal with wine pairing for each meal and every dish was amazing! Before the meal started I enjoyed a drink called Italian Cloud (An Italian twist on the French Martini using a Italian made raspberry dessert wine, vanilla infused vodka and pineapple juice to create a delightfully creamy refreshing martini) Bread Basket VEG -VGN* Focaccia, Whipped Ricotta, Tomato Jam, Roasted Garlic Panzanella VEG-VGN* Spring Mix, Butternut Squash, Brussels Sprouts, Red Onion, Croutons, Dried Cranberries, Chai-Apple Vinaigrette Duck Glazed carrots, mashed potatoes Dessert, homemade tiramisu There are renovations currently taking place and what I saw was amazing this will be a popular venue destination soon. Staff were very polite and friendly. Kitchen staff ready know what they're doing, The hostess did an awesome job describing every dish. They also have a pianist to help you relax and enjoy your meal. read more

I had a tour of the newly renovated hotel. I've not stayed here so my review is only on what I saw on this tour. The two rooms I saw were small as average hotel rooms are. The decor is old fashioned with the darker woods, typical beige walls, forest green/tan carpeting and drapes. Small updated bathrooms with toiletries. The hotel lobby looked modern, clean and fresh so seeing the room decor I felt a disconnect. I also wasn't expecting to see 1980s office ceiling paneling, that was odd for a hotel room. I do hope that the hotel service/ room service will be top notch to continue to elevate the experience of your stay. I wish them the best! read more

Several things to know before your stay. 1. There is no elevator, so you will have to haul your own luggage up a flight of stairs to get to your room. Pack light. 2. Some of the rooms have no wall thermostat and the temperature cannot be controlled from the wall unit. If it is a cold month, bring lots of layers to sleep in (see #1). 3. To access the Internet you will have to agree to receive lots of spam emails and calls. Good luck. 4. The hotel says it is a 3 star hotel. I am not sure what that means unless it is the average number out of a 5 star review. In which case I would not be bragging. There are other hotels nearby. I would seriously consider one of these instead. read more

I came to the hotel for an event and ate at Mercado Mio. This was my experience: The staff were SO KIND! They were knowledgeable and very passionate. There was also a pianist that was so talented and has been playing at that establishment for decades. He was such a pleasure to listen to. Before dinner, there is a side bar that has a very charming and speakeasy vibe. Loved sitting in there and feeling like I was in the flapper era. The drinks were amazing...the bartenders really knew what they were doing. I got this delicious drink with lemoncello and a new gin that I have never had that made the drink purple! Then, we started the food and wine pairing. I had some great and some slight improvements this experience. The first course was homemade focaccia bread, which I did enjoy...just wished there was more of it for a first course. I did enjoy the wine that was paired with it though! The second course was a very delicious arugula salad with yummy fall flavors and I loved the pesto addition, but it was missing a savory aspect, like feta or goat cheese crumbles. Being an Italian restaurant, I thought we may have a pasta course, but it was another salad. I do love Brussels sprouts, but this salad had too much bacon, which overwhelmed the dish a little. I did LOVE the main course even though it did take a little longer to come out than expected. They cooked the duck perfectly. There was a sweet port reduction sauce that really complimented the fatty duck and the garlic confit potatoes were icing on the cake! The chef really outdid himself with this one. Lastly, we had tiramisu for dessert. It had all the right notes of flavor, but the lady diners could have soaked longer because they were harder. I did love the mascarpone topping though! I do want to preface that the chef staff was very small and they were serving 60 people for this event on top of another event I. The convention center. On that caliber, they did a good job...just wished they could have fixed the short staff for the kitchen because there were some longer than expected waits. read more

They were upgrading many of the rooms during our stay in mid-Dec. The hotel at this location was built in the 1960's and there are many artifacts in the remodeled lobby of the original hotel. The staff was very friendly. There are no elevators so you must walk up some stairs to get to rooms on the second floor. The lobby was decorated tastefully for the holidays. Would highly recommend the restaurant Mercato Mio inside the hotel. We had dinner and breakfast there and the service and food were amazing. There is also a very cozy bar area in the hotel adjacent to the restaurant. read more

This place sucks. We have stayed every year for the last five years for the Sportsman's Show. I each year gets worse and worse. We booked a suite as there was 4 of us. The "suite" was 2 beds and a second room with a table 2 chairs and a couch! There was NO hot water. Had to take ice cold showers. We were told the free shuttle would come and get us at just a phone call away to transport from the show. We called and waited an HOUR! read more

Whew these one star reviews definitely scared me before I stayed here. I stayed here for two nights while I was at a conference. Is this hotel a bit older? Yes. Does it look out dated? Also yes. But honestly for what it is, I did not think this hotel was that bad. The staff were very nice and helpful. My room was large. The bathrooms however were very tiny. Also, the outlets in my bathroom did not work. A coworker said the same thing about the outlets in her bathroom. There are no elevators on the property so if you have mobility issues, ask for a room on the first floor. Also, not all rooms have a mini fridge or microwave, so if you need these items, you'll have to request a room that has them. I didn't have any issues with cleanliness in my room. read more

I only gave one star because it would not let me post the review without. This hotel is a 0. The towels were roughly thrown in the cabinet under the sink, hurriedly folded so that I was not even sure that they were clean. There is a coffee machine in the room, but only decaf coffee. There is no cream, not even powder, and nothing to stir. The machine has not been cleaned. There is still a used coffee filter in it. The room had a musty smell. The mattress was placed a sideways onto the bed. When I asked for a clean set of towels they would not take them to my room. I had to get dressed and go to the front desk to get them. Not happy with the price-to-service ratio. I don't care for fancy furniture or luxuries, but after days of traveling, clean towels, a comfortable bed, and a good cup of coffee in the morning are a must. This hotel did not deliver. read more

I went there for a convention. We were in the convention center to the right of the front desk. At break time everyone heads to the rest room. The stalls are too narrow. The toilets are too low to the floor. I am an 80 year old lady. There was no handicap stall. So I used the one there. I WAS UNABLE TO GET UP FROM THE LOW TOILET. I had to call for help. How embarrassing for me and for my rescuer. Also another problem. Only ONE SINK in that bathroom has working water. The other three won't work. I WILL NEVER COME TO YOUR CONVENTION CENTER AGAIN. THE CONVENTION HEAD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEMS. IT IS VERY LIKELY THAT YOU HAVE LOST A LUCRATIVE BUSINESS DEAL FROM THIS SITUATION. read more

We arrived last night to a room with live and dead bugs. Several Pubic hair in the bathroom, including both beds, blood in the bed, what appears to be cum stains, multiple dirty used towels, broken furniture and damaged electronics. I would typically LEAVE and RUN however there are no vacancies in the area. I requested new bedding changed one bed myself which 5 of us slept in. read more

Clean linens and generous toiletries, and the exterior is pretty; that's pretty much where the positives end. The carpet in the halls is worn and frayed, the furniture is chipped and edges are losing their finish. The door, walls and ceiling in bathroom are bubbled and beginning to peel. The shower was stained, the faucet did not work correctly and after two minutes there was water standing around our ankles (ew!). Booming Latin music continued through the walls in a nearby room along with occasional voices until after two am, and in between, the noise of passing trucks was very intrusive. Throughout the night sounds of footsteps overhead were louder than in a normal house and after such a terrible nights' sleep, the worst offense was the scare when housekeeping tried to wing open our door at 8:30 am (thank goodness we had the secondary lock engaged as it slammed the door together), and then again knocked just a few minutes later. When my husband answered the door, he was asked by the housekeeper, "what time is checkout?" The newly hung banner over the permanent sign indicates that perhaps the hotel was recently purchased, and one can only hope that signals the beginning of a desperately needed renovation. One last positive: when my husband (who has worked in hospitality for many years) stopped by the desk to let them know of the issues, he was met with a polite, seemingly concerned reception. My family stayed for 4 days for my business trip. The property was doing some remodeling to make the rooms and property more modern. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable and the water temperature & pressure was great except the shower head was outdated and just sprayed to the back of the tub. Breakfast was offered but too much for my liking we went to Perkins & McDonalds. There are a lot of good restaurants close by that offer a variety of food options at a more reasonable price. The staff was friendly and helpfu. Overall a great place to stay. read more

Stayed here for a conference. Highly disappointing for a Wyndham branded property. Rooms smelled musty, closet door had missing handle, bathroom door hinges were rusted, and room carpet felt grimy. Bathroom was tiny and shows it's age. Aside from the location and convenience, I would not stay here unless the property undergoes some major updates. read more

The worst hotel I've been the carpet so dirty, the room has a musty smell the sofa is so worn out and how could they have the heart to put it in a room that charges $130/night? That's highway robbery! The breakfast is too low grade and awful! I couldn't eat anything except the eggs... please don't ever go there! read more

After about six or seven years staying here every year for the Corvette show.. I think will have to say goodbye... it was absolutely horrible; spiders in bathroom, damp smell, Super thin sheets, no mattress cover, loud air conditioner, water dripping from the faucet when it was turned on, water dripping in the shower when it was turned off, no maid service at all, didn't even clean our garbage or bring fresh coffee cups and creamers for the morning, no morning coffee in the lobby. **IF YOU CAN AVOID THIS HOTEL DO SO** A hotel easily 30 years past its prime obviously without enough revenue to repair it. Very, very seedy. Everything looks very "90s" - and dirty. I didn't want to touch anything let alone sleep there. Obviously not run well and they're stuck with an absolute pit. This place is in serious decline. The maintenance man actually put up a ladder outside our room and tried to come in THROUGH OUR WINDOW - scared my wife to death - didn't knock or check if the room was occupied just came in - through the window. "Oh, sorry..." Mold on ceiling. Carpet damp and filthy. Bathroom dirty in the corners and around the edges like it was given a once over once in a while but never really cleaned. Room smelled of mold and smoke. Coffee maker didn't work with no other coffee on premises. Phone didn't work (We were told they were "from the 90s"...) DirectTV system is broken and keeps resetting for 10-15 minutes at a time so even if you do find something to watch, you will miss part of it. Ten channels, nothing good - a lot of local stuff and an overpriced movie station. There was something wrong with the TV speaker - like it was overtaxed even at low volume. Tinny sounding, distorted and annoying. Ice bucket rusty and dirty. Metal room surfaces rusty. Musty smell from the LOUD A/C unit. Remote with batteries falling out - masking taped together - like a child repaired it. Staff - some helpful, some obviously burned out and gave BS answers because they're used to endless complaints and have no way to help you. I would give this zero stars if I could. I was double charged for my stay and even through I was told by two separate people that I would get a refund in 3 days, it's been a week. Also, the room was filthy, the AC didn't work, we didn't get any sleep because of all the noise, the shower didn't work, it smelled really badly, and the lady at the front desk was incredibly rude. This place is horrible. Horrible. Bleak fluorescent lighting in the rooms, which smelled like stale smoke. No real shower head-- the water just gushed out of seemed like an open pipe or something. Good pressure though . The wifi wasn't working. The room and bathroom are tiny and the surfaces on the desk and nightstands were all sticky. The ac was loud and obnoxious, although it did a good job of keeping the room cool. Not worth it no matter how cheap it is. read more

Don't stay here unless you want blood stains in your sheets and on your towels, your room to smell like cigarettes, have to change your room because the smell is so bad, the toilet paper holder ripped right off of the wall, house keeping never came to clean room, wouldn't give us more than 2 towels when ours were covered in blood. No clean towels at pool, marijuana was the first thing we smelled when walking into the lobby, the pool was packed the first day and when we went the second day there were dirty towels everywhere, but not one clean towel. Asked for extra pillows and they conveniently were out. Management was supposed to call me per corporate and NEVER once did we hear from then! Awful experience! Told corporate we were going to switch hotels the second night because we had had it and there was no manager to get our money back so we couldn't. Sleep in your car..you're better off! Oh and there was mold on ceilings! The restaurant was closed for breakfast and dinner our entire stay .. we should have been notified of that ahead of time! read more
