Hotel Bar Review: Central Pennsylvania Hilton My reviews are different. I do not announce myself or tell anyone my purpose; I am simply here to provide a review! Yesterday, when I went to court, there was no "partisan ferocity." I believe that is what made me so upset--my hearing had to be rescheduled, leaving me with extra time to hang around Central Pennsylvania. On the plus side, it gave me time to leave a few beautiful reviews. I walked right over to the Hilton because I didn't want to waste the parking I had already paid for. I went in to order an Old Fashioned. I visited this place before the New Year and had one then, but it seems nothing is ever quite like the first time. This was my third time having this drink here. The first time was amazing; it was made to absolute perfection, and I fell in love with it. As I have said in my previous reviews, I don't drink to get drunk--I drink for the taste. That is exactly what I was looking for this time, but the drink was watered down. I couldn't taste the citrus, the bitterness, or the sweetness I expected. I don't know if it was the atmosphere or the mood, but I attribute the quality to the bartender. He gave me no eye contact while I was inside the establishment. I tried to initiate small talk, and still, there was no eye contact, so I place the disappointment on him. The other staff members were very nice, which was great. I was there midday before the lunch hour, which made the environment more enjoyable. I turned a negative into a positive by sitting outside to enjoy the nice weather and a beautiful cigar. (If you want to find a good cigar spot, check out my other reviews to see where I normally get mine!) I tried to pair this drink with my cigar, but it disappointed me; it did not compliment the cigar at all. It didn't do what I needed it to do, which was provide a great taste. My Ratings: Atmosphere: 4.7/5 Bartender Experience: 2.7/5 Drink Quality/Consistency: 2.5/5 It is all about consistency. As a customer, I feel the experience should always be top-tier. The Hilton Harrisburg exceeded all expectations! Loved the hotel and space. I would absolutely recommend and already have another reservation at the end of June and can't wait to come back. My room was spacious, clean, the bed was comfy, and the water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water on the 14th floor (Room 1411). I want to highlight that the entire staff were friendly and inviting. Special recognition to JP at the front desk. I was not automatically upgraded and JP went the extra mile and was able to provide a Hilton Honors status upgrade upon request. I was upgraded to a King Deluxe w/Sofa Bed. That courtesy is so much appreciated as I am finding upgrades less and less frequent and the Thank you's as well (Diamond member) but that was not the case here. Regardless of status, I observed the hotel staff interactions with guests from front desk, housekeeping, and restaurants and all were outstanding. I was even able to take a work call from the room the next day and get a noon checkout. I recommend staying here and finding the location and garage safe. I had heard some horror stories about Harrisburg but did not experience anything negative and this excellent hotel made my stay in Harrisburg such a delight. Will be back in June and want to check out more of the city and maybe tour the statehouse. read more

My recent experience with the Hilton Harrisburg was horrendous. I would rather give it no stars - one star is too much. The hotel is not willing to work with their customers. I was charged for a reservation that they canceled on me without notifying me and thereby leaving me and my child stranded with no hotel room and 4 hours from home. They will not remove the charge even though I paid double to stay the next night (out of desperation because there were no available rooms in any nearby hotels and I was 4 hours from home). So in the end I'm paying almost 700 for one night and countless hours on the phone trying to come to a resolution. They don't care. They will take your money. Don't stay here. read more

This hotel is located downtown and I would say, it's not really a good place to walk around after the sun goes down. Especially if you're alone. The lobby and restaurant/ bar area was really good. There was an issue with the HVAC during the entire stay. It was way too hot (76 degrees) in the rooms. I asked for room cleaning and they never came. Also, for certain people there is a no occupancy tax. They don't give you the forms. You have to bring it. Other hotels I've stayed at in the area printed and pre-filled out and/ or knew what to fill out. That was frustrating. We also had a catered event and the food was excellent. I attend the AICUP presidents event at this venue annually for many years and we have had excellent experiences each and every time. The hotel has easy parking, accommodating staff, beautiful ambience, and clean rooms and conference areas. The food is excellent- as we have had catered breakfast lunch and dinner each year. This year I especially loved our wait staff for our university presidents' dinner last night. They were so friendly and personable. They really made the entire dining experience wonderful. read more

Another from context light one night quick and dirty series of hotel stays. Check In: Actually fairly difficult since the restaurant by the desk was packed with people the same as the lobby due to a few functions going on at the same time. Near jet engine like roar in general made it very difficult to understand anything being said to me. Mostly just a lot of polite head nodding until the keys were handed over. Room: About what you would expect all things considered. I mean honestly this is Harrisburg and this is the "nicest" hotel in downtown and one of the few full service properties in the area but even when I say "nice" you need to curb your enthusiasm a bit. The Waldorf this is not but then again you shouldn't be expecting that either. The bathroom is dated with a bizarrely low to the floor toilet and chips and dings all over the walls. The bed was decent enough and we got an ok view of City Island and the Susquehanna. The one potential downside is that if you are a TV person, they don't get many channels. If you accustomed to a DISH package or even some type of extended cable, not here. Very basic and done. F&B: Hilton's F&B credit policy while I'm sure a rousing success for the franchisee is overall a minefield for guests. Too many places going cowboy on the amount, whether or not it can be carried over, when it can be used or even if it's applied before checkout. Honestly: No thanks. We also checked out the menus ahead of time and nothing was really standout or stellar looking and the pricing is definitely hotel pricing. Parking: As anyone that has been to Harrisburg knows, parking in town is a mess. Meters everywhere, lots of sketchy areas and lots of expensive garages. The hotel has a garage attached to it. Without validation it's I think $30 a night but if you bring your ticket to the desk you're charged $10. Where this gets interesting is that the desk agent gives you a separate ticket to get out with and then throws in the caveat that if there is an issue you need to call from the garage to have the gate lifted/checked. It's almost like they know the system is crap in advance. Sure enough when we go to leave out of the three lanes to exit, two have orange cones in front and the third one isn't working. Thankfully someone four cars in front of us noticed the arm in lane 1 was already up so they moved the cones and we all left. In premise I guess we all could have parked for free. Overall this place is good enough for a one night stay especially if you're business is at The Capitol, The Whitaker Center or on City Island. But know that while nice, it's only so nice and if you're looking for better in the immediate area I'm not sure you're going to find it without going to Carlisle or Hershey. read more

My night at Harrisburg Hilton was solid good. I wanted to arrive the night before a two day Pennsylvania Bar Institute conference on the latest in Utility Law in the Commonwealth. While not my regular beat in the legal world, a seat on the board of our local municipal authority (sewer) has captured my attention to the convoluted system in place to deal with all the small sewer plants around our aging state that just don't work well now due to permanently deferred maintenance and the general incompetence of officials without skill nor real interest in sewage over too many decades. (Apologies for that long sentence.) Of course there are exceptions, and I hope to be part of one of them. Actually, it is quite an evolving disaster in terms of rates and overall affordability. Plenty of work for lawyers, but no real solution to a growing economic storm. Aside from my rant, the hotel was fine for holding the conference for several hundred attorneys, and my room was clean and comfortable. The front desk people were pleasant and provided useful information, especially in how to deal with the parking. I got a strong 10 hours sleep, given there is little to do by night in Harrisburg, unless hanging around the bar to mix with out of town esquires is a thing. Sorry. Not sorry. Not my thing. So, feel safe booking this Hilton for your overnight needs around here. Just realize that the utility scene in the state, particularly the wastewater zone, will not be solved there. Well intentioned people, but in need of a brilliant solution that has of yet not been discovered. read more

Not only did he craft some truly exceptional cocktails, clearly reflecting a passion and mastery of his craft, but David also took the time to get to know us, sharing delightful stories about his own life, asking about ours, and truly making the evening memorable. His kindness, charisma, and expertise transformed what could've been just another night out into a wonderful, memorable experience. We've all had an experience like this, an amazing service staff member just so authentically happy to be going out of their way to be an amazingly kind, generous, and considerate person; and these gems of people need appropriate recognition for how amazing they make experiences like this. Very clean and nice. Business trip to Harrisburg but I had to bring my 2 dogs. So finding a nice hotel that would allow us is problematic. My standard poodles are very clean and leave no trace, also don't bark or cause trouble. We were treated great and had a quiet night in a clean and friendly spot. read more

FINALLY a not so dumpy Hilton. I travel occasionally for work and Hilton is the hotels they prefer to use. This was the least crappy one I've been to in a while. Getting Wilbur Buds at check in was a nice touch. I did have a very very slow sink drain that had me on my hands and knees in the bathroom trying to see if it could be fixed. I also think the thermostat had zero actual control over the temperature of the room. My digital key didn't work, but honestly this was the nicest Hilton I've been in all year. read more

Just like most downtown Hiltons, this place is located in a real central location. Walking distance to many restaurants and sites. The rooms are big and quiet. The restaurants are great. The staff was outstanding. Everybody was helpful and friendly. Parking was good. Garage within the property or valet. Breakfast is awesome. I recommend. read more

In the Before Times, this might have had more stars, but my guess is that they are under-staffed. The lobby is impressive, the bar was lively when we were there, and the bell service was helpful. Our room was fine, but the little details were lacking: no shampoo, etc in our room, no extra blankets or pillows for the pull-out couch, no welcome sheet that tells about their amenities. I get that stuff in the room was pulled due to COVID, but they could still have a little information sheet about dining options and location of the pool, etc. There also were no clean towels in the pool area. I called twice about the towels over about an hour and they didn't arrive prior to us leaving the pool area (dripping). I did prefer this hotel to another name brand hotel in this same city, though. read more

Note to management: I arrived yesterday at 6pm the entire front of the building was jammed with cars. I drove past the hotel and self parked in a garage nearby. No heat in my room, a constant 66 is uncomfortable for me. Glad it wasn't colder out. I observed mattresses, bags of trash and water bottles in the hall. The personalized note and physical keys were nice although the key didn't work the door. Possibly I arrived on an off day. read more

The Customer Service and Valet Service did not live up to Hilton standards, I left my car with the Valet Service on Friday night 8/22/25 in perfect condition. I was staying to show my car at Corvettes of Carlisle. The next morning I noticed after it got light outside that the Valet had put a road rash on my front left wheel. The wheel was only 4 months old on a brand new 2025 Corvette. I called the hotel several times and was transferred to Security every time. The problem is, Security never answered 5 calls or returned any messages. So, I had to drive back from Carlisle to report the incident in person. I showed the damage in person and provided pictures. A report was taken by a very courteous Security Officer later that day. The bad news, I had to buy 4 new wheels at Carlisle and have them installed that day for the showing at the event. I hope Hilton takes care of the damage with their insurance. read more

Very sad... I had work in Harrisburg in 2020 and 2021. Stayed here multiple times and loved it! Expensive yes, have to pay for parking yes. But nice restraunt down stairs and the breakfast was great! Update Aug 2023. Prices still high, still have to pay for parking, no breakfast unless you want to pay $20 dollars a person a day, customer service is rude and joke. Good luck getting someone on the phone. They will hang up on you and they will put you on hold indefinitely until you hang up if you call back. It is well worth it to stay a few blocks away and save half. Or out side of downtown and get a nicer hotel. read more

The Good: The room was commodious and clean when I arrived. There was a working refrigerator and room safe. The bed was comfy, as were the pillows. The heating system functioned. The door to the adjoining room worked. The Bad: The closet door didn't open fully due to some sort of mechanical problem. The room coffee was incredibly weak. The Worst: The room key rarely worked, and I had to make multiple trips back to the front desk during my stay. Once, needing a nap, I was too tired to return to the front desk, and sat on the floor outside my door. A carpet cleaner man in the hallway took pity on me and messaged Maintenance for assistance. He had to call them twice before anyone (and then two people) came up to check the door lock itself. For some reason, a man from security also came up, and said, "What's the problem". I explained that my key -which I had just had reprogrammed at the front desk during-was still not functioning, and I needed a nap and was too tired to return to the desk to try again. He said, "Well, I'm sorry, but you will need to do that in order to get your key to work...the people at the desk are very busy right now." He didn't seem to understand that I had already had my key card reset two times. Perhaps he was inexperienced and had no better ideas to assist a CUSTOMER? And he said, "Don't yell at me". Though I was angry and frustrated (who wouldn't be, in the same situation), I hadn't been "yelling". It was a bad experience, and I won't be returning there. read more

Impressive upper scale Hilton property and one where I actually got treated like a Diamond Member at check in. JP was great and after a very frazzling journey to find parking late at night he was very kind and assured me that if at any time I felt uncomfortable just let him know and they would arrange security to escort me to my car. The room was very nice. The 1700 was fantastic. I recommend getting there before 9pm for dinner because the more casual Adlibs menu is more basic bar food with not many choices. The cons: parking and logistics are challenging. There is a walkway to the hotel on Level 2 so you actually don't have to walk through the alley as I did the first night. Second, the hotel regulates the room temperature so you can hit that thermometer button all you want and it won't make a difference. The room was miserably hot all night, so if you need a cold room to sleep good luck and get a low floor. I got about 10 hours sleep total over the two nights. read more

We have been staying here for the past few years and never any issues. Several issues this time. We attended a gala on 10/7/23. First issue when arrived, one elevator working for 15 floors. No access to steps that we could find. After checking in we went to our room, so we thought. It was the wrong room. There were clothes on the floor, etc. It turns out this was not our room. We had to wait at least 5-10 mins to get the elevator to go back to the front desk. We were comped free brea for the next morning. That was great for the issues since we just arrived. Someone must have had the wrong key card because someone tried to get in our room too early in the am. Never had that issue before either. The morning of checkout, we did enjoy the breakfast. Breakfast buffet was available. Made to order eggs or an omelette. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits with sausage gravy, toast, bagels, fruit, muffins, danish, yogurt, juices and coffee were available to try. The food was good and enjoyable. Overall it was a rough start and evening, but the next day the elevators were fixed and breakfast was tasty. We might stay here next year for the gala, but we are not sure yet. read more

While at the bar eating and having a beverage. Several homeless people came in asking for hot water and or condiments. At other times they came in asking for drinks the bar did not have. Staff seemed to dismiss them or just give them what they asked for (hot water and condiments). While walking from the parking garage to the hotel I was heckled and followed by homeless people as well. This doesn't seem to be a great area nor does hotel staff do anything to protect the customers staying at the hotel from homeless people coming and going inside and outside of the hotel. read more

After a long day of volleyball and not checking in till 9:30 pm. I called for pizza recommendation and was told it was a personal preference and she would not make a recommendation. She told me to google it. She said we want you to order here so we can't help with outside service. I asked to speak with a manager and she said she was one and then hung up on me. Also, their were dirty dishes outside our room that night and they were still there in the am. I complained and when we checked out they were still there. There was also black mold on the shower curtain at eye level. Not happy with this hotel. read more

Nice, affordable hotel in downtown Harrisburg. Interior of the hotel is stunning but the rooms themselves feel a little outdated. The location is perfect and close to many bars and restaurants. They also have a later checkout than most other hotels which is a win in my book! I would definitely stay here again on my next trip in Pennsylvania. read more

I stayed at the Hilton Harrisburg for 5 nights this week while attending the Pennsylvania National Horse Show. Check in: I was able to check in without incident and received my HH member free water bottles. Room: I disliked my room as it was right across from the elevator and I heard it beeping all through the night. The view was not good. Cleanliness: By far my biggest issue with the Hotel. I was extremely displeased with the cleanliness of my room both upon arrival and after the first day when housekeeping is supposed to touch up the room. The ice machine on my floor was out of order. Valet: Hit or miss here. There's a couple guys who were really on top of it and would have my car out early when I needed it. Other times I had to call down and once I waited 22 minutes for the car. A notably long wait. Maintenance issue: when I used the sink the first night I noticed a MAJOR leak. I had to use all of my towels to soak up the water. I left housekeeping a note right on top of the sink handle "SINK HAS A BIG LEAK" housekeeping must have chosen not to see the note or the mess of water soaked towels on the floor. I returned in the evening to find an unfixed sink and a hardly cleaned room. Very disappointing. I called the front desk and complained about this, finally it was fixed the next day, though they did not compensate me in any way for the inconvenience. Restaurant/Bar: the bar and restaurant "Ad Lib" located on the first floor of the hotel is really nice with a great wine selection. Though I'm not sure if they are actually run by the hotel. This hotel is not worth what they charge you. I do not recommend staying here. read more

Upon arrival the staff were great but our room was pretty dirty. I'll be here for two weeks at this hotel and by the 7th night I'm over it . I'm having to ask for towels , trash bags etc. I have yet to ask anyone to clean my room and when I go to the lobby desk I get attitude because I need a few things . The hotel bar and restaurants have been fabulous every time . The gym is pretty sticky , dirty ( Mainly the treadmills ) . Don't get me started on the vending machine area . The trash can stinks and is usually without a trash bag in it plus the floor around it is beyond gross . I understand COVID and they may be short staffed but some things are just not acceptable !!! read more

Decent enough hotel with a nice and clean room. The breakfast felt like a COVID breeding ground--no one wore masks walking about. Actually this was the whole hotel, but maybe it's an issue of the area. I don't love riding in elevators with potentially infected people. My main gripe is the valet. Called ahead but still waited thirty minutes for my car. After no valet appeared finally a young security guard showed up to unlock the shed where my keys were sitting. Why? Because the hotel had sent both valets to the airport to pick up guests. Come on management! You have a nice hotel; do better. read more

Attended an awards dinner here last night. Reception included cheeses and fruits with a cash bar. Dinner included salad with a creamy Italian dressing, assorted breads, a choice of red or white wine. I chose the chicken entree, but others selected salmon or a vegetarian choice. The chicken dish included two small grilled chicken breasts topped with mushrooms, alongside roasted vegetables and some kind of risotto. Dessert was a salted caramel cake which was delicious. read more

I had a weekend conference in Harrisburg and decided to stay at this Hilton for three days and two nights. From the outside, this hotel is beautiful and the lobby is just as nice, but the rooms were very disappointing. I came in and was able to check in online, so I went straight up to my room. My room was located in the very end of a hall, but easy to get to. Once I was in my room, I was shocked to see how small it was. There were two beds and a tiny bathroom. Even worse, we're the amenities. There was absolutely no view, the desk and walls were scratched up and the shades had some marks on them. The TV was also small and it was probably 15 inches wide. Luckily, the beds and bathrooms both looked clean. As I mentioned before the outside of the building and lobby was nice. The lobby had a section with a fireplace, main lounge area and a restaurant. While I did not eat at the restaurant, I did look nice and saw that they had some TVs showing sports and an open kitchen. I had breakfast here and it was pretty good. They served eggs, potatoes and pastries. The potatoes were nicely seasoned and the pastries were all very unique in their own way. I especially loved the croissants and how soft they were. Some other problems that continually persisted were the slow elevators and the terrible WiFi, which would also disconnect. This Hilton is connected to a series of other businesses including the Whitaker Center, which is located in Strawberry Plaza. My experience with the staff here was pretty limited, but they all were very kind and professional. Altogether, the Hilton Harrisburg is pretty average and could definitely improve their elevators, WiFi and most importantly their rooms. read more
