I cannot praise Penna Coker law firm enough. My name is Jose Quintana and I needed a lawyer to represent me in family court for child custody. I have raised my boy alone since he was 2 and one day his momma showed up on my doorstep with the sheriff and took my boy. It didn't matter to the sheriff that my son had barely seen his mother in the past 6 months, all that mattered to him was that there was an old court order that granted Mom basically a 50/50 time share. I was heartbroken as I watched my boy get in the back of that car and drive away with tears in his eyes. The next day, I reached out to Michelle Penna, who was referred to me by a coworker who said that Michelle had won her case before. Michelle never sugarcoated my odds. She was very honest about my case and even advised that I should not hire a lawyer right there and then. What lawyer do you know won't jump at the opportunity to take your money? Most attorneys sell you on fake promises but Michelle is very familiar with the folks down at the courthouse and explained to me that as a man, I was fighting an uphill battle. I thought the mediator heard me out and I thought he would be fair but the man gave me NOTHING. He said he had 37 years of experience and claimed to be fair and impartial but it certainly did not seem that way when he sided wholly and completely with my ex in his recommendation to the judge. Lou Gretzky, I think you need to retire, bud! That order would have caused my son greater heartache and would have worsened his anxiety! Anyways, I'm writing this review to say how wonderful Michelle and her team is, not how irresponsible and careless Mr. Gretzky is. Upon receiving the mediator's recommendation, Michelle once again did not sugarcoat the outlook. Judges tend to just stamp the mediator's recommendation, it's rare when they go out of their way to make changes. The day of court, Michelle said she was going to do her best to argue my case but things were not looking great. I cannot put to words the hopelessness that I was feeling that morning. We had to do court over the phone, due to the pandemic. There was really bad feedback on the line. A really bad echo made it hard to hear and harder to speak. But when it came time to speak my case, Michelle did not seem phased by the interference. She spoke calmly, clearly, and professionally, one sentence at a time. She laid out all of our complaints, eloquently and confidently. She kept her composure despite a terrible echo and even managed to make the judge laugh. When it was my ex-wife's attorney's turn to speak, he did not do as good a job. The man stuttered and struggled to make their case. This doesn't mean he's a bad lawyer, it just means that mine is an amazing one! The judge made quite a few changes to the mediator's recommendation. He gave me Monday thru Fridays, Holidays, child support and even one weekend a month. My boy is now living a much more stable schedule. I feel a great sense of relief and am grateful beyond words to Michelle, Hannah and the team. Their tireless work and commitment was a blessing to our lives. Michelle handled my divorce which was amicable and agreeable from the beginning. All that was really needed was to file paperwork. We were told the $1,500 deposit would be refunded if we didn't use all of it. In the end we did use all of it plus a little extra. But the part that was really irritating was that we were put on the back burner. I would call every couple of months and asked how things were going. I was told that they were going to file whatever they needed to "tomorrow", or that they were just getting around to it. After 3 rounds of this(no exaggeration over 6 months), I accused them of forgetting about me which they admitted. When I was said and done it took over a year just to get it all done. Furthermore, I asked if they could help with an additional issue and after I was routed around to three different people in the office I was told they didn't know what they could do for me. I was then charged for each of those emails. I had to fight to get the charge removed. I would definitely not waste my time with this lawyer, very disappointing experience. read more

Horrible experience. Michelle was my saving grace while I was able to shove 10k to her firm in less than 3 months. Then Michelle went on vacation and her partner Laurie tried to drop me because I couldn't pay an additional 10k for a custody trial that we never even had! I ended up paying over 19k from November 2018 to April 2019! The only outcome was Michelle begging for me to sign a custody agreement so I could hurry and "move to NC so that my case could be their problem and not hers anymore", her words exactly! My ex is a manipulative liar and as soon as she saw that as a challenge, as well as me going into nearly 20k of debt, she lost all of her spark and glam that she put off to me in the beginning.
