I discovered Penney's while perusing the buzzing neighborhood near my hotel. As soon as I walked in, it reminded me of Primark. Lo and behold, I found out they're a part of the same company/brand. How cool!! Same great products, same great prices. They even had a fully operating hair and nail salon inside. I barely had any vacant space in my luggage, but I absolutely had to grab some good deals and exit quickly lol. The store is huge and the various sections are easy to browse. DISGUSTING. No men's changing rooms/fitting rooms. They have a woman's and than a "ALL GENDER". I asked for the men's as we have 2 young boys. We where told NO! Only woman to the left no men because that's not fair on woman. BUT, all genders are ok in the men's. Like seriously....... the most SEXIST experience we have ever had in any supposedly family retail giant. So woman can perv at boys and transgenders can go with boys. But it's not ok for woman. This is my first time coming to Ireland as an adult and my Mother and Sister in law who visit often have raved about this store...it's 100% worth the hype. In retrospect, I wish I had packed half the clothing that I did for this trip and just purchased the majority of my trip's wardrobe here upon arrival! The clothing seems of very nice quality and so inexpensive. One of the rolling carry-on bags we used on this trip my mom got here during her last visit and it was by far one of the easiest of all our bags to travel with. read more

I'm giving Primark aka Penny's a 5 because the deals are unbelievable, like $5 for a top and bottom super cute bathing suit! Not to mention they have everything under the sun you could possibly need. My daughter, 19, found the cutest clothes and a total of 11 items for €45. This is unheard of and especially in the U.S. Although the clothing sizes vary, try everything on, I found that this store is for everyone. I bought 3 bathing suits, socks, the cutest sun hat, travel mirror and then body care and all of this came to €35. I would definitely recommend shopping here! read more

I wish they had this store in the US! Initially, I went to the branch on O'Connell street since it was the first one I saw and was on the Main Street. But as I was checking out, the cashier directed me to this branch for more shopping! I enjoyed this branch a lot more because it's so much more organized and appears to be newer than the other one. Overall I spent over a hundred here because the coats are just so cute! And the price is very reasonable. They also had a lot of scarf choices which I purchased as souvenirs. If I had known I was going to go shopping in Dublin, I would've brought a bigger suitcase! You get what you pay for. The quality isn't the best and probably not last for years to come. Wow...wow...wow! Really. I was in Ireland for twelve days and saw everyone carrying around bags from here, me thinking just a regular Dept store. Boy was I wrong! This place is for real, a one stop shopping paradise, eating, cheap cheap shopping. I was seeing amazing clothes and shoes for u see $10. Nothing in this store seems expensive. More of an H&M but on a cheaper price point. When I was walking through overwhelmed I went by a full on nail salon! Really. You will find anything you want here, clothing, makeup, luggage's, accessories, jewelry, toys etc. my head is still spinning trying to recall it all from a month ago. Let's just say next time I'm in Ireland I'm bringing an empty luggage just to load up on stuff from Penny's. Haha really. Hands- down, my favorite place to shop in Dublin. It is basically the equivalent of Primark in other parts of the UK. Everything is reasonably priced and unique. I love buying clothes here and wearing them in the US, because no stores here sell things like this. I had been here in 2010 and bought a black sweater that I got so many compliments on. I wore it until it was threadbare. I came here again last week, hoping to find something similar, and although I didn't find one exactly like it, I did find a really unique black sweater and a gray one that will likely both be my go-to sweaters. Lines are intimidating at the check-out, but they move super fast. I also bought some cosmetics and pajamas and other little odds and ends. Have they refurbished this place? Or was I just in here at a really quiet time, before the vultures swooped? I was in this Penney's for the first time in years yesterday and was quite taken aback by just how clean, tidy, streamlined, and well, damn funky the place looked. All decked out in monochrome, if the scale of the place wasn't so massive, I would nearly have thought I was in a 'normal' shop...! Even the dressing rooms seem to have been given a make-over. Block colours accenting some walls, and clean white on the others. Lots of hooks for your clothes (I like to hang the ones I've tried on one hook, and the ones that are yet to be put through that torture on the other hook. I hate putting them on the same one, wrecks the process. OCD?!) They also have built-in seats in each cubicle, and two mirrors so you can see yourself from the back / side (not necessarily always a good thing, I will admit) I have to say, I was just taken aback by the layout of this place. Everything was so well lined up and stacked, it was damn near perfect. Really nice merchandising as well, and some ultra-fashiony stock. To be honest, I've been trying to stay away from Penneys and the likes, to stop myself from spending lots of money on lots of crap, rather than lots of money on one nice quality piece. But the lure was too strong. I now have three dresses I will unlikely wear more than three times. Stepping into Penneys is like stepping into a half cooked tin of beans. It's stuffy, it's a bit too warm, it's crowded and everything's a bit mank. So, I only ever really go into Penneys when absolutely necessary. In other words when in need of the big three: socks, jocks and towels. Penneys is perfect for this kinda stuff, but I wouldn't be running out the door for their t-shirts or jeans. You get what you pay for in Penneys, and that sadly means the garments are of absolute crap quality. But as I say, if you need a pair of Y-fronts in a hurry, there's only one place to go. read more

I love primark and this is a primark in Ireland named pennys. Everything you find here are pretty much the same thing you can find in primark (London). Price range, product quality and selections etc. Though I love primark and pennys, I can never find anything other than accessories from these stores, Just like forever21 in the states. These type of affordable trendy stores are huge, with a ton of people floating around, all over the place. The line to the fitting room are at least 15-20 mins long. I still like penneys, I enjoy spending an hour or two wandering around and pick up a few things here and there. You can't beat a bit of penneys - uptown clothes at downtown prices. Love it! The one on mary st/henrys t across from The Jervis Centre is the best in my opinion - it's probably one of the newer stores and is huge. They have everything from mens/womens clothes to jewellery, bags, shoes, home ware and more. The stuff here is dirt cheap - now the quality isn't top notch, but you get what you pay for. My mum once told me if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything. But this time I can't help myself. Penneys is another product of "Fast Fashion" and thus has a reputation for being up to date fashion at unreasonably cheap prices. But because of this sacrifices have been made, often at the expense of the consumer and the producers. I know that there's an on going debate about Penny's and the use of slave labor. At present I'm studying fashion design and we've been taught about the evils of cheap labor and this has effected me greatly. A lot of the clothes are produced very very cheaply and often in poor conditions and this always has and always will rest heavily on my conscious. Also because of this cheap labor, the clothes themselves are of a cheap quality and the cut is often disastrously wrong resulting in leggings that twist around the leg, dresses that refuse to fit a bust above a 10yr old's. The fabric is cheap and often goes out of shape very easily when washed. I could happily rant on and on about the evils of this store despite it's popularity, but personally I'm rather happy to pay that little extra for quality and a reasonably clean conscious about who's made the garment for me. read more

After moving to Dublin with only a couple suitcases, my boyfriend and I were tasked with outfitting our new apartment from top to bottom; we needed blankets and towels and pillows and sheets and so much to make our house a home. We were told almost immediately upon arriving that Penney's was the best place to go for a lot of the stuff we needed. Outfitting an apartment isn't a cheap endeavor, but with Penney's rock bottom prices we managed to get almost everything we needed without breaking the bank. In addition to homegoods, Penney's is also awesome if you're looking for cheap, cheap, cheap clothes and accessories, the latter of which they have a huge selection of. The clothes are really quite trendy and well-fitting and it is amazing how they can do that at such low prices. I always get a little nervous about shopping at places like this though - how can they offer such low prices? Are there kids in Indonesia slaving 12 hours a day constructing those faux-leather handbags and jersey tops? And then there is the question of disposable fashion - the feeling of disconnect from clothes because they are so inexpensive. "I've worn this 1 time and it is annoying me. I only spent 3 quid on it, so I can just throw it away." That mentality is detrimental to our society in a lot of ways and I try not to fall victim to it. Ok, enough prattling about society. Penney's is awesome and cheap and as a poor young thing, this is really essential. I find this location to be better than others because it is less central and a bit less chaotic. There's not a lot to be said about Penney's that hasn't been said before. You either love it or hate it as far as I can tell. I know it has some pretty dubious ethics, but then so do most high street shops. I do want to offer the two things I know to be true about Penneys. 1. It caters for what seems to be a pretty common Irish female figure - fairly ample chest and a bit of a belly. Having spent many a fraught moment in the changing rooms of places like Topshop and H&M, it's nice to have someone acknowledge that sometimes an A cup on a size twelve dress just doesn't make any sense. 2. It can be good quality. Yes, somethings fall apart within a couple of wears, but I also have cardigans, tights, dresses and shoeboots from here that have lasted as long as if I had spent four times the price on them. It's a bit of a lottery though, and I would not advise putting anything you buy there in a dryer, just to be on the safe side. At the end of the day, its worth a gamble of ten euro to see if something does last. I've sold designer shoes and you wouldn't believe the amount of those that have heels snap off after one wear. read more

Penneys. Everyone's got something in their wardrobe from there (even if they're not always willing to admit it!) They are up there with the like of Dunnes as an absolute staple of the Irish wardrobe diet over last how many years. There is a certain snobby dismissive attitude towards Penneys clothing, but from experience, I can say that there is next to no difference between vest tops, ballet pumps, bags that you could pay less than €10 for, that may be €20-30 or more in other high-street shops.....the only difference being the label...! Granted their clothes, shoes etc may not last as long as something you might buy in other shops, but if like me, you tend to buy and wear only a few times before forgetting about them, its a good option! I think the chain has vastly improved over the last five years, particularly in their more on-trend items. I have also even noticed more range in their sizes, which is very welcome! I love Penneys, there is always a bargain to be gotten! After this store was renovated recently you feel like you are in a more upmarket store with the layout offering a good overview of what is on offer. However there are two things that make this a 4 star instead of a 5 star..... 1 - the crowds are just crazy, once they enter the clothes seem to be thrown all over the place and 2 - you feel the impulse to buy every "bargain" you see and you end up walking out with €€€ worth of cr@p that you are never going to use or wear!! You are best off having a plan of action for your trip to Penneys....go directly to the item required, do not look left or right and ensure that your eyes are shut all the way to the till! This store is so much better than it's Primark equivalent in Belfast, it's well laid out, space between racks and tidy! Managed to spend about 90mins pottering about the 3 floors with my 13 & 16yr old daughters not once getting frustrated by the chaos. They were keen so buy a lot of stuff but both managed to come away with a full outfit each including shoes, a few extras and an outfit for their wee sister (2 bags full) for just over €60 read more

Pennys in Dublin is awesome. Also, there are other locations besides this one. Every time I go to Ireland and I am in Dublin I shop here. Back hope you could equate the prices to Target, but the clothing is so much cuter and stylish. I can't tell you the number of compliments I receive on this frilly green and black short-sleeved shirt I bought there. The best part it was only 13 Euros, and you get your VAT back if you don't live in the EU. Make sure to ask for the tax-free paperwork. Love Pennys, only wish there was one in America! read more

I won't speak for the things sold here, as I don't know if selling things that cheap has good production practices behind it, so this review is for the beauty salon in Penney's. I've been going there basically since it opened, and it's saved me a lot of money on eyebrow/lip threading. As long as you don't mind being treated in essentially an open area, not in the centre of the shop but still somewhat viewable to shoppers, the quality here is good. During the weekends it can get really busy though so important to keep that in mind as it's first come first served, no appointments. That said, the service is quick and efficient. The girls aren't always super friendly, but as long as they do a good job personally I don't mind too much, and they do do a good job. Prices have gone up a bit, but still, I pay 14€ now for eyebrow and lip, when I used to pay 24€ elsewhere. Can't vouch for nails though as I prefer to get those dune elsewhere. They've also introduced packages now for treatments, meaning even bigger savings which is good. read more

I don't think I can really fault this Penney's store (I'm being specific to this particular one - some of the others are pure torture). Their men's clothes have gotten pretty good, and decent quality. How can I bitch about a €2.50 t-shirt that sits better on me than something out of BT2 or Urban Outfitters? Their hoodies and other sportswear items are also quite comfortable. I have a feeling their shirts won't fit me as good, by the look of them, but you can't win 'em all. I bought luggage off them recently, which was affordable and perfectly functional. I was a happy man! And one thing which I love is their bits and bobs near the till, like wet wipes and toothpaste among other items. Penneys has cool clothes for cheap. It's that simple. You can get dresses here for €10-20 and even better if something is on sale. Handbags, accessories, jeggings--you name it and it's cheap. They stock trendy fashions and basics for every taste. The only thing you have to watch out for is redundancy. That delicate, floaty white dress you bought because it was so amazing is being worn by 20 other girls as soon as you step out the door. I think the key is to accessorize your Penneys purchases heavily in case of this scenario and you will be just fine. I usually go to this location or the one on O'Connell Street since they are very near to my building. I find this one to be larger, have a wider selection, less people in the fitting rooms, and to be generally cleaner. It makes sense because the O'Connell Street location is so busy and full of people. It's probably physically impossible to re-fold clothes fast enough to keep that store looking tidy. read more

The problem with this place is that it encourages you to refuse to pay more than €20 for anything. And of course in the real, non-Pennys world, that just doesn't happen. But in this treasure trove of tack, normal rules just don't apply. Knock-offs rule the roost here, where copyright and trade mark are alien concepts and intellectual property is a dirty word. Whether you're after basics or specifics, this should always be your first port of call. OK, so they're not the best made clothes (don't expect them to last longer than a wash) and the designs are always just that little bit off...but for these prices who the hell cares?! I mean 1.50 euro for tights, 8 euros for a bra, 6 euros for panties, 15 euros for a shirt, REALLY CHEAP! ~Great selection and style, very trendy wear, more trendy than Target or Old Navy in the US. What Could Be Better ~You get what you pay for, most stuff only lasts 1 wear, or two if you hand-wash it, but at dirt cheap prices, you can buy 2 pair of what you really like. Cheap and cheerful is the name of their game for obvious reasons! As a girl who loves to shop and adores a good bargin, Pennys is perfect. The down side to Pennys is the lack of visual merchandising around the shop. I cannot stand the fact that nothing is on the correct size hanger! Pennys is the quick fix place, its for those lunch time impulse moments, so when yo pick up that top on the size 10 hanger, bring it home, and realise its a size 14.....theres problems! HOWEVER, overall, I love it. What you see is what you get (except for the hanger sizes!), who needs neat, tidy rails and top notch customer service, when you buying things for a fiver! read more

I LOVE PENNYS! It was the best thing to happen to Dublin for people on a budget. I don't care what people think about me shopping here. It was my favorite place I could show at while living in Dublin because it was cheap, good fashion, and the quality of clothing was good. If you were like me -- I lived in the county... so I would often have the option of taking the Dart back, change, and head back to the city centre, or hit up Pennys to buy something then make a bee line for the pub. I found this much more useful. No lie. I got new clothes, then I was ready for my night out! I would still have to carry my clothes from the day around, but that wasn't a big deal to me. I do love penny's but this one is waaaay too big. More clothes though so more money spent and more to return the next day. Queues are mental but there are usually a lot of tills open and plenty of fitting rooms. I always spend around 80 quid every time I go in there. With dresses from 11 euro to as cheap as 21, you will always find something to wear. Some clothes last well but at these prices you can't expect them too realistically. But delighted you can still have a new outfit every weekend if you wish for the same price of one elsewhere. Great for work outfits and I also manage to find outfits for fancy dress nights. Some called it fashion, but illuminous pink jumpers and leapard print jumpsuits, come on! Would give it 5 only the shop is too big and too packed at weekends. But everyone wants a piece so you can't blame it. It even has it's own saying. "Your tops lovely" "Thanks, Penny's". A foreign friend thought that's just what you say when someone compliments you. Ahh Penneys... Where would we be without it. I'll tell you where, somewhere that involves healthier bank accounts & wardrobes built from high quality basics. Penney's is great. & this particular one is now excellent with the clothes more spread out & much tidier than it was before it's refurbishment. My problem with Penneys applies to all stores, not just this one; firstly everything is so cheap that I end up spending more than I should. All those "ah sure it's only a 5r"s add up to having spent €100 at the till & actually getting nothing that you really wanted. Secondly the quality of the clothes is never really great. I've yet to find a penney's outfit that has lasted more than a couple of months. But I suppose you get what you pay for. & the arguement for pennys is that since it's so cheap it's nearly disposable clothing meaning you'll always be in fashion... I visited Penneys in Dublin and in Galway and in Dundee. They certainly have loads of cheap clothes etc, very colourfdul and fashionable. BUT...BUT...BUT.... I couldn't buy anything because I'm fairly sure that the producers are paid very badly . I don't know why the Penneys shop in Dublin is listed on a FAIR TRADE site. NO WAY is Penneys Fair Trade. There is not a single Fair Trade mark or label or cert on anything there. Go to FAIR THREADS ( Guineys) where you can now get Fair Traded certified sheets and footballs. Try Marks and Spencers where some of the clothes are Fair Traded. ( They made a big effort some years ago, and produce several Fair Trade lines and their factories in Morocco are monitored ). Do some research. Young people are glued to their phones all the time now so do something useful when you open that phone. So you still think cheap and cheerful and 3 of everything to throw away is great ?? Stuff this cheap means that slaves are making it. No this is not fun. read more
