Urban Outfitters is an achingly hip clothes shop, one that is so in touch with the hipster zeitgeist that it couldn't possibly limit itself to selling just clothes, it also sells super-trendy knick-knacks and what have you. The clothes that Urban Outfitters sell are often quite good, but always substantially over-priced. Urban Outfitters is more than just a shop, it's a lifestyle guide for people with skinny jeans and 'Skins'-esque haircuts. The music that is heard on Urban Outfitters' in-store turntables (listened to through fashionable Sennheiser headphones) is sure to be raved about on its patrons Facebook pages until the next flavour of the month comes along. Whatever about the clothes being a mite bit expensive, the various accessories and trendy tat are inevitably outrageously so. "A gold Casio watch? A Casio watch... that's gold? Oh man, I have to update my Twitter feed with this one!" I fell in love with Urban Outfitters when I first saw it in the States, but the love affair is slowly dying. There are some gorgeous gorgeous outfits and accessories in the Dublin store, but they are not worth the pricetags thrust upon them. For example, I found the cutest women's dress hat here - a bit of a novelty item, not something you'd wear everyday - but a nice piece nonetheless. However at 50 euro it wasn't even open to consideration. I could go to an op shop and find a real vintage one for a fraction of the price. Whoever does the visual merchandising inside the store is an absolute genius. It's worth a trip to the Temple Bar store just to witness some of the in store artworks. I particularly like the broken furniture 'sculpture' which spans the staircase between the first and second level (pic attached, of course!) So yeah, for me Urban Outfitters has become less of a shop and more of an art gallery over the years. Can't wait to go back to the ones in the States ;-) read more

Normally I wouldn't bother writing a review about a chain store like Urban Outfitters, but because I feel as though this particular shop is different from its North American counterparts I think it deserves to be rated. For one, the clothes are more expensive in Dublin's Urban Outfitters than in my hometown one. I don't know how they justify inflating the prices... Are customers supposed to pay more just because it's an American company? How is that fair? Dublin's Urban Outfitters seems to be popular with people who are too lazy to actually look for real vintage clothing. Vintage is supposed to be cheap, in less we're talking about designer labels like Chanel. Another thing: vintage does not mean bad quality. The clothing at Urban Outfitters never lasts long. You spend 50 Euro on a threaded hippie top and it unravels after 4 washes. Ugh! So annoying. Also, what's so cool about looking like hundreds of other people? I used to shop and Urban Outfitters constantly. Back when I was 13, 14 years old, Urban Outfitters used to be quite cutting-edge, but as counter-culture and increasingly become culture itself, the store too has become very main stream. I don't shop there nearly as much as I used to because, now that everything they sell is popular and normal, albeit "hip" I can find it elsewhere for cheaper. Anyway, Cathal is absolutely right when he says that Urban Outfitters is all about selling a lifestyle. They want a consumer to walk into the store and find a complete outfit from skivvies to shoes, and to pick up some fun lifestyle items while they're at it. The lifestyle they're selling is presented in all aspects of the store, not only in the apparel. The visual merchandising is painstakingly designed and carried out, with usually cool and remarkable results. It's a good time just to check out the décor. Ok so yes you'll find skinny jeans, but you'll also find some lovely dresses, tops and very pretty jewelry. Their t-shirts are really nice and fit great, but they're not cheap so try to get em on sale. This is a great place for guys to shop for slim and skinny cut jeans, as they have a wider selection than a lot of other stores. Their shirts are also pretty slim cut, which is especially nice for skinny guys! The knick knacks, books and house wares are always fun to look through, and can be a great place to find a silly present for a friend. I also recommend coming here round Christmas time, as they always have really fun and interesting ornaments that you won't find anywhere else. read more

They're that kinda sly combination of 'Oh look we're such hippies, we sell home made stuff and we won't judge you, we all want to just get along in a casual hanging about thinking about our creative projects and the state of the world type way', with 'actually we know we said that, but we're really a pretty massive global company and it's gonna cost you a loooot of money to be hanging around pretending to be as carefree as us'... I can't help but get excited by this store. I instantly revert back to being a little kid in a candy shop......I was a fat kid. Ok well Urban Outfitters is in a word, quirky. This store has successfully recognised it's market and caters almost specifically to them. The students. UO seems to know students obsession with anything random, funny, shiny and alcohol related. On occasion they provide student nights where a bar is opened, amazing djs dish out some very dirty tunes and students then receive up to a 40% discount when they buy in store that night. The clothes are a nice seedy mixture of unrecognised labels along with the odd designer piece that lurk upstairs in the boutique section, such as Vivienne Westwood along with a few the final pieces left from the former designer Luella. The Staff are upbeat and friendly, always happy to help and find exactly what you're looking for. The music played in store is sold in store as well and varies from artists such as Fleet Foxes to mash-up dj Girl Talk. the sale of Lomography cameras is also a lovely little treat that I continually take full advantage of. read more

The store brings a certain robust modernity to Temple Bar, that which is otherwise a focal point of more oddball, hippy goings-on. The flagship store stocks prevailing, cutting edge attire for generally well-to-do young adults who have an inherent cool hipness. The shop isolates itself from the more off the wall, flamboyant zest that many other of the authentic shops in Temple Bar exudes because of its high prices and up-to-the-minute designs as opposed to the more vintage attire sold elsewhere for less money. Everything from Fred Perry polo shirts to See by Chloe gold beaded knit dresses and crepe boots, Bebaroque stud tights to Simon Preen jumpsuits - this glaringly chic and tasteful store has it all. Urban Outfitters, an Aladdin's cave of off kilter, mish-mash stylings that see girls dressed like suspender tights-wearing, 80's street urchins and boys like gay MTV presenters. Skinny drain pipe jeans, peaked caps, outrageously baggy grandad cardigans, plimsolls (worn without socks of course), ripped denim short shorts, flouncy blouses, whimsical floral patterns, loud clashing colours and other "quirky" items, which are typically worn with the finesse of a 5 year old who has been rooting through a bag of charity clothes. It's not the main offender mind you; American Apparel is another store that seems to be doing all it can to make 'androgynous bohemian geek chic' the epitome of modern youthful style. The only reason I visit Urban Outfitters is to browse the cool books, CDs and household novelties they have on display. There are lots of books about film, photography and retro fashion, which I find interesting, some jokey books that are a great bathroom read, picture frames, kitchen ware, fridge magnets, etc, that might make an unusual gift for someone. Urban Outfitters attracts hip young things looking for something 'different.' It's a hard store to categorise - there are all sorts of funky gifts, unusual toys and fashion items. If you want a pair of big sunglasses or a xylophone, some dance music or skinny jeans then this store is worth a look. I particularly like the selection of rude, ribald gift cards. Some of the modern art books are quite cool too. Prices are OK, service is OK, but a lot of the stuff in here is impractical, plastic junk. A great shop to browse, but you mightn't buy a lot. Urban Outfitters is one of those shops you tend to go to quite often to just have a look around but you leave without buying anything. And then on other occasions you leave with lots of things you didn't mean to buy but just fell in love with. I'm talking about the quirky household items on the ground floor, as opposed to the sometimes overpriced clothes you find upstairs. The clothes are pretty much hit and miss, they either are absolutely fabulous or quite the opposite. But Urban Outfitters is great for deals on G-Star jeans for the guys and they also do cute and quirky T-Shirts and accessories for girls. I'm a fan of Urban Outfitters anyway but the one in Dublin is great. They have a decent range of clothes over 2 floors and a homeware section on the lower floor. The European UO shops are always more expensive than the US ones but the quality of the clothes speaks for itself and the homewares section offers quirky and unusual items and gifts that you won't find anywhere else. The temple bar area is very trendy anyway so this branch fits right in. read more

Sure, the staff is all smiles when you need assistance buying something, BUT if you have a problem with your purchase, beware. I was subjected to sneers and rudeness over an issue with a 9 euro item. An outlet of the famous US brand. The one in Dublin is situated in an old Georgian building in Temple Bar, so you have a pretty nice setting in where to buy your hipster clothing. They recently re-arranged the interior and selection, and are now focussing on selling clothes then the usual bits and bobs that you find in most stores, it seems. It is really spacious, with all the sections set out neatly, and it is never too crowded, there is loads of room to walk around and look. I love urban outfitters, of course the only draw back is it being a bit pricey, but to be honest all the clothes I have gotten from their have lasted me quite a while and become 'main items' in my wardrobe.
