For starters, there were only like 3 tiny TVs in the whole venue, and NONE of them had the Penguins game on, which makes no sense to me lol. There were Pens games both nights of the festival and they didn't play them either nights. I wish they had different activities to do. The silent disco felt weird to me. I don't want ppl watching me drunk dance around like i'm in a zoo exhibit hahah. That's how it felt looking in from the outside. Loved the live music, but it was at the very end, so you couldn't really hear it halfway down the venue at all. My recommendations would be to add more art vendors, more activities, more TVs/watching areas spread out to stand, drink and enjoy a game, AND more music spread out. It just felt weird basically drinking and standing around waiting to get another drink. I felt like I needed to be more entertained. They had everything, but the layout made it feel like there was nothing to do.

I liked all the vendors artwork it's hard to find that many artists at one place. Everyday and night they have bands playing and there really good. Actually I go for the food and it was just as good as it was 18 years ago plus the prices were reasonable plus the profits help a lot of organizations. I first visited this science center many years ago while I was in college. Even then, it was an…read moreenjoyable experience, although it was beginning to show its age. After hearing about the recent major renovation, I was excited to return with my family and our young children. Unfortunately, we left feeling underwhelmed. Several of the interactive exhibits we were looking forward to were out of order, which was disappointing, especially for the kids. Some areas also felt sparse, including one section that was largely just a LEGO play area. Given the investment in the renovation, we expected a more engaging and polished experience. Overall, we didn't feel the science center lived up to its potential or justified the admission price. While there are still some enjoyable exhibits, we had hoped for a more immersive and interactive experience.

Plus there are several different live shows daily along with planetarium shows (free with admission). There are also add ons like the laser show and the omnimax cinema. There is a paid parking lot right outside the science center. Parking is very reasonable ($6) but depending on how busy it is, you may end up quite far from the entrance, so keep that in mind. You can purchase admission in advance online (especially important if you are visiting one of the special exhibits) or you can get it there. Either way, you will need to wait in line to get your wrist band. There are times that there is quite a line, but they seem to be pretty efficient overall at getting people through. Some favorites of our family are the earthquake simulator, the electricity show, the model train and the submarine. (note, it is wonderful to see, but there are plenty of tight spaces so might not be great to tour if you are Closterphobic). I wish they hadn't taken out their robot area. They replaced it with a Mars exploration exhibit which is interesting, but for my kids and I it was kind of a one and done whereas the robots we would visit every single time and spend tons of time there. They area that was formerly sportsworks is currently being renovated to a gocart track which I'm sure will be fun. But it seems like with each renovation they are removing some of the more educational aspects and replacing them with things that will be more fun centered. There is a cafe on the ground floor. Typical cafe type stuff that is decently priced for museum food, but still costly. You can always pack your food or just get something to eat after your visit. Avoid the weekend of Thanksgiving and the weeks of Christmas break at all costs. I made that mistake once and it was so crowded you could barely move. Definitely not a fun experience. They often host special events for both members and the general public. I've been to a few of the 21+ nights and while they are fun, as a member they aren't worth the cost to me. One of our favorite events was the Polar Express PJ party where you started the day with some science themed activities, Santa and then hot coco and snacks for a private screening of the film. Overall, a fun museum for people of all ages (definitely not just a place for kids).

I recently attended my very first live performance of Sweeney Todd after watching the movie just a…read moreweek before. The theater itself is unique, with an old-school box office located in a coffee house, where you pick up tickets at will call. The doors opened 15 minutes before the show, and they had a small but charming concession area offering beer, wine, whiskey from KingFly Spirits, and snacks--all reasonably priced. My seats in Row C, which was actually the front row, made the experience incredibly intimate and up close, and I was even briefly involved in the performance! The actors did a fantastic job, and I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of both the production and the venue. Overall, it was a great, personal theater experience that I would highly recommend.

The Depreciation Lands Museum is a nonprofit village that teaches visitors about local life in the…read more1700s to 1800s. Many people do not understand what "Depreciation Lands" means. American soldiers who had fought in the Revolutionary War had been paid with paper money called Continental Currency that had depreciated so much that is was almost worthless. As a result, in 1783, the Pennsylvanian government purchased the Depreciation Lands--720,000 acres in the counties of Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Lawrence, and Armstrong--from Indians in order to compensate the soldiers. Currently, the Depreciation Lands Museum is open on Sundays from 1-4 PM from May through October. Some special events, such as ghost-hunting and the Hydref Fall Festival, are held at other times. The suggested donation is $5 per adult and $3 per child, and these donations can be paid with cash or check in person or with PayPal or credit card on the website. My husband and I parked our vehicle in a parking lot that was near a bank across the street. We spent one hour at the museum, although other people might want to visit for a longer time. We felt interested in seeing the church, cemetery, tavern, barn, workshop, log house, blacksmith shop, Indian wigwam, herb garden, bake oven, smokehouse, and schoolhouse. All staff members were volunteers. The staff members wore costumes, and they reenacted work such as processing flax into linen thread, weaving the linen thread into cloth, cooking pumpkin soup in a hearth, making nails out of iron, etcetera. The volunteers spoke nicely to us, and they communicated educational information.

For $75 we didn't know what to expect, but we expected our experience to be at least double what those who purchased general admission received. Not quite. When we arrived we received a wrist band that gave us access to the VIP lounge where there were supposed to be savory "heavy" appetizers. While the cheese plates were beautiful, the cheese was very standard, lots of yellow and white cubes, and the occasional wedge of brie. There were 2-3 other bite sized apps, but we were left underwhelmed. Not to worry though...we didn't come there for the apps anyway, we came for the CHOCOLATE! Well...that's when it all went awry. There were lines. Not just a few. There were lines everywhere. And they were long, and they didn't move. As we looked over the balcony we could see huge crowds in the grand lobby so we opted to get in line on the 3rd floor. After 45 minutes, we made it to the chocolate beer station and picked up one biscotti from Enrico Biscotti. While the biscotti was delicious, 45 minutes is a little crazy. We ended up passing up the chocolate beer and grabbed a toothpick with a delicious bite from Senti before making our way down to the second floor. This is when it all went from bad to worse. We waited in line for another hour. This time for a few chocolate truffles and a shot of wigle whiskey. By this time everyone around us was so equally frustrated it wasn't even fun anymore. With about 20 minutes to spare we made our way down to the grand lobby and thank goodness for Cioppinos and the Milkshake Factory!! These people were running a well oiled machine and pumping out hearty portions of flourless chocolate cake, milkshakes, and chocolate candy by the bowlful. And the line was only about 10 minutes. Several of the other stations by other restaurants were already empty by the time we made it out of the lines, so I cannot comment on what I missed...but for a $75 ticket it was a definite disappointment that I spent 75% of my time standing in line. I hope if this event continues next year they either restrict the ticket sales, or move to a different venue that can accommodate such a big crowd.

Great festival to check out along Walnut St in Shadyside on a hot Sunday summer! :) This past…read moreweekend, I went out of a whim to grab a quick bite but came across a crowd attending Shadyside Art Festival by accident. A variety of vendors were all set up in their tents showcasing their pieces of arts from painting and sculture to jewelries like ring and necklaces as well as some food vendors offering finger/snack food such cheese arepa, lemonade or chicken kebab along Walnut street. Overall, the crowd seems to be happy checking all the different vendors out. There must have been at least around 50-75 vendors there and was a nice, pleasant surprise to just walk around and seeing what all the vendors had to offer. Wouldn't mind coming across this festival again if I'm in the area.

When I arrived on Walnut Street, much to my delight, I found myself in the middle of "Shadyside...The Art Festival." The street was filled with tents featuring local artists, the sidewalks were lined with fresh lemonade stands and barbeque carts, and there were cool people everywhere. The best way to spend an evening.

Your ticket entitles you to a three hour session of all the beers you can drink and all the food you can eat. They have breweries there from all over the country (including some cider and mead vendors too), and restaurants from all over the city. It's a huge party, and there are people there from all over, so you a guaranteed to see someone you know. This year was the 12th annual, and I look forward to coming back again next year . . .
