Since my last review, I have gone twice more and feel that I need to reiterate how much I love Penny's Place. Food, Service, and Ambiance is always 5/5. The BEST breakfast meal I've ever had (this time I chose tater tots though, but still really enjoyed it). A nice find in a town we come to about once a year. The decor is fun, primarily black and white with a side of humour. Our server was perfect, answering questions and willing to suggest, always with a kind smile while being very efficient. There was a brief wait for a table at 9a, so go early. Visited for Sunday breakfast, had the three little pigs. Where I come from, some might call it a "mess"- a generous portion of everything in the kitchen scrambled together, topped with gravy and a fried egg. Really good food, very filling. Great coffee. Very good selections of different breakfast. Krystal was very helpful and an asset to Penny's. The food is home cooking at its best. Hipster Eggs Benny is gourmet and the regular eggs were Cooke perfectly to medium. The flat top potatoes were just what wanted and the sausage had an interesting herb flavour. The negative is the noise of people talking is so loud - over 85 db at times. read more

Penny's Place is now a stalwart destination for us whenever we travel between our home in the Thousand Islands and the Ottawa Valley. We actually make excuses to go "through Perth" so we can eat breakfast at this Jewel of the Ottawa Valley! As always the staff (I would prefer to call them friends at this point) are as professional and amazing as all get out and the chef/owner was rocking it (literally and figuratively) rocking it in the kitchen. That a single person can put out at that pace and it be that consistently delicious is a feat in itself. Hands down the best breakfast anywhere! They know how to poach an egg the way you want it (have never gotten it wrong). I'm told the sausages and potatoes are great. I don't eat either but the avocado and grilled tomoatoes I get as a substitute are amazing (and I usually don't like grilled tomatoe). Big smiles, big portions, and good vibes. This small spot packs a big punch. Our group of 8 was treated to a satisfying breakfast. We split to two groups of 4 as space is a bit limited, but were seated right away. I chose the breakfast sandwich from the seasonal menu. Chorizo patty, scrambled egg, cheese and spinach on a English muffin with a side of home fries. The eggs were fluffy and chorizo just the right amount of spice. It's definitely cuter on the inside than the drab diner exterior suggests. I had an egg and cheese sandwich on an English muffin. I had the bacon on the side because I can't eat breakfast meats and just gave it to someone else. There were few options for people who can't or don't eat meat and just leaving it out isn't always the most interesting option. I had wanted avocado toast but they were out of avocados. The coffee was better than average diner brew. I took my order to go, so I can't really comment on the service. read more

Stopped for breakfast after a week at Crotch Lake. 3 of us had the breakfast poutine and it was fantastic. 2 had the crispy chicken burger and were very happy with it. Last dish was a pulled pork poutine which was also great. read more

The food is fairly good but the service is very disappointing. The food took 40 minutes to arrive and was cold. Our server was quite unfriendly. The place was quite busy so it's possible this accounted for the laggard service and the server may have been stressed, but still I wouldn't recommend it. read more

Good breakfast spot in Perth. Reasonable prices and plenty of food. If your hungry come here. It's a small place that fits around 40 people with and older but nice look. And the coffee actually tastes good! There is a huge parking lot so if you have a truck or a trailer hooked up you have plenty of room to move around. read more

Stopped by here, for lunch while riding across the trans Canada, it looked like a quaint diner, the type of place to get a decent meal. The meal was decent indeed, and a very hearty sandwich, but all it was, was a sandwich, no side. Still for less than 10$ you cannot complain too much. The reason this is a three and not four star review is actually the language to describe the meal vs what I was delivered. I still did enjoy it, but did not receive what I anticipated. Ordered the 'philly cheese brisket' sandwich. And being a BBQ guy was expecting a beef brisket type sandwich. Needless to say I was surprised when my plate arrived and it was corned beef brisket. Had I known this is what I was to expect, I may have ordered something different, or I may have ordered it still, but I would have known what to expect. It was smothered with sauteed vegetables, and covered in cheese, served up on a nice fresh bun, it definitely did hit the spot, just not what I thought I was going to get. Anyhow, if you are hungry, and passing through Perth, check this place out, decent portions and decent prices. read more

I had lunch at Penny's today for the first time and it made me happy. You could definitely see there was a strong lunch following, and my parents go there frequently for breakfast and they report that time is very busy too. Servings were generous - I had a homemade meatloaf topped with caramelized onions and jalapeno havarti with a spicy mayo - quite delish! Other items enjoyed at the table were a grilled ham & cheese (VERY cheesy!) and the daily special which was a grilled wrap with grilled chicken, a garlic aioli, tomatoes & lettuce, also reported to be very tasty. Keep coming back and never disappointed. Tried the Reuben. Many years ago when I was travelling all over North America. Including Alaska and Hawaii my personal goal was to find the best Reuben and best Margarita. I found the best Marg years ago but the Best Reuben had eluded me until today. We're staying in Perth a couple of days and wanted a family place for a late breakfast. This is a clean and friendly cafe with good value for money and really staff. The sign is a little hard to spot while you're zipping along Hwy 7 but it's worth the effort. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on our trip back home in the states. We were happy to find a small local diner opposed to a chain. Glad we did! Definitely a small place, but our wait was only about 5 mins. (10:15 am, Saturday) That seemed to be the average wait time we noticed through our breakfast. We had Eggs Benedict, half order of pancakes, two eggs over easy, bacon, home fries and hash browns, coffee and iced tea. All food was prepared to our liking and served hot. Was a little surprised that the iced tea was a can of Nestea, opposed to fresh brewed. Service was efficient as the two servers kept up with seating, servicing and cashing out guests. Definitely a good experience, that held us over for our next 7 1/2 hour leg of our trip. read more

Penny's is a solid choice in Perth for a consistently good breakfast that is not greasy and therefore leaves you feeling satisfied. My only wish is that they would actually carry hot sauce NOT Tabasco as that is only meant for Caesars. Please, even Franks Hot Sauce and we will keep coming back! read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch enroute to Toronto and were pleasantly surprised by the creativity of the menu in a diner environment. I had a panini with turkey, brie, pears and a cranberry salsa - very tasty and ample. The vegetarian with me had several choices and settled on a portabella mushroom on a burger bun with carmelized red onions and chevre - also very tasty. The fresh cut fries were thin and nicely browned - not the healthiest choice on the menu but tasty. The server was friendly, helpful and efficient - even brought us a taster of a soup we were considering which was tasty but didn't make the cut. We will stop there again as we travel this route fairly often. read more

The food is great, and always consistent. The service is usually quick and efficient. However, the reason for lack of stars is there is no AC so it's very warm in the summer and I find the owner to be very rude (and she's often the one serving). Basically rolls her eyes when you arrive and zero pleasantries when ordering or throughout the entire meal. She appears to be like this with everyone, including her staff. We are always much happier when someone else serves our table. Clearly the food is what keeps people coming, so props to the kitchen. read more

Had breakfast there, food was good but not spectacular. Walked in, waited to be seated and were told we would either have to sit at the counter or at a tiny table wedged just inside the door.
