It's situated in the U-bend of the…read moreriver and this is a real bonus for children and adults alike - take a rubber inflatable along and drift downstream from one end of the campsite to the other - it's very shallow so perfectly safe (although the water is cold having comes straight off the mountains!). You can fish in the river too - although I didn't catch anything. It's a great child-friendly campsite with a large play area and the facilities are excellent with washing machines, fridge, excellent showers and a great cafe/small restaurant on site too. There's also a small shop and the site backs onto a garden centre so you can browse for plants too. It's very well located for Snowdon and Caernarfon.

There is a lot of walking around to do and beautiful waterfall area for hiking about (but you must be careful). The owners are terrific and deliver firewood to your tent. The beginning of our camping here was terrific, again before school holidays started. On our last night it was the beginnin go school summer holidays and it got quite busy so if you want peace, go midweek. Will definitely return.

Its a small family run site you drive in pitch your tents and the farmer will visit you to take payment (£6 pppn and £2.50 for kids) you can camp right on the river and wake to find dozens of small wild birds cheekily after your toast. Its close to some fantastic clean welsh beaches. Take a walk in the awesome mountains, sail lake bala then come back to your tent to a good oldfashioned campfire. There is plenty of space, you can have a campfire, it has a lake, and the toilets are decent. The shower block can be a little chilly but this site feels a bit wilder so this is to be expected. There is boat hire and barns can also be hired for stays and events.The staff are friendly and the vibe onsite is good. I've been coming here for 12 years and hope to do so again, many times into the future.

I'm not a beer/ale/stout fan, so you'll just have to trust my friends. The most popular was "Carmen sutra", but my boyfriend also really liked "something gold" and "Carmen's pulling power." The pub itself is huge, with quite a few rooms and plenty of space to eat, even if you are in a large group. They serve happy comfort food (like scampi and chips, roast dinners and pies.) It isn't the best pub food ever, but it is pretty decent...and will seem even better if you climb any of the surrounding mountains in the rain!! The staff are also really friendly. I have been here twice (each time I've climbed Snowdon) and I think I'll come back if we choose to do other hikes in this area. I am definitely a fan.

We were allowed to put up our tent where we would like and there was plenty of space. The setting was beautiful and surrounded by welsh hills. The facilities were very food and cleaned regularly. We needed to use a security card to get in so knew we were safe. It was a short walk to Beddgelert where a dog's grave was, and a lot of nice pubs. We spent a pleasant evening in one. Close to local tourist attractions and easy to get around.

Shell Island is a huge campsite that my husband and I have visted a lot. The campsite extends…read moreacross a huge area from sand dunes to a causeway there is lots to see and many different camping expreinces to be had. You can have a wild time or a sedate and quite time. We prefer a calmer time whilst camping so stay well away from the sand dunes which tends to be over run with teenagers making noise. We're happy for them do it and don't want to complain so choose the other side of the island where we're unlikely to be disturbed. Plus the views are better on the other side of the island. As you enter the campsite we turn left towards the harbour and camp on that end of the Island. There is a great little beach there that hardly anyone else visits, you can mooch around the harbour and get great views of Harlech castle without being disturbed. I wouldn't visit during any of the school holidays or bank holiday as the whole place is packed out and at times you have to queue up the causeway just to get on and off the island. There are a few shops on the island (an ice cream shop, a beachwear/surf shop/camping shop and a mini supermarket) which can be handy but we tend to arrive fully stocked. The pub is okay, we tend to drink off the island or the beach with out BBQ. We ate at the cafe once and I'd say avoid at all costs. Shower are free as are the toilets. They are largely kept clean and tidy. Also on dotted across the site are portaloos which are great when a bit drunk and not in the mood for the long walk up to the toilets. The portaloos are kept clean and emptied often. I've never had a problem with one and I'm quite prissy. Shell Island is perfect for a weekday camping getaway outside of the summer holidays.

Gilfach Goch (Red Hollow) Farm is a self-catering, three bedroom Cottage that sleeps 5 but on the…read moresame farm there is a four bedroom converted barn conversion that sleeps eight. It is a grade 2 listed 400 year old traditional Welsh Farm house situated in heart of the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. The cottage is oak beamed with slate floors on a 60 acre Welsh hill farm overlooking the sea and Shell Island. It has a Crog loft with 3 interconnecting bedrooms and a bathroom. Down stairs there is a living room with wood burning stove, a dinning room (with a wood burning stove) and a modern fitted kitchen. The cottage is secluded and approached down a 1/2 mile private drive, yet it is only a mile from the village of Llanbedr. The Barn Conversion named Ty Gwenol sleeps eight.. This is a conversion of two barns dating from the 17th century with many original features and extensive exposed beams and oak floor. It has a large modern farmhouse kitchen/diner and the lounge has the original high barn ceiling with the exposed A frame timbers. There are 4 twin bedrooms in all. Bedroom 1 is upstairs in the main barn and has exposed beams. Bedroom 2 is situated downstairs has an adjoining shower room with wash basin and toilet. Bedroom 3 is in the new extension. Bedroom 4 has a high original oak beamed ceiling with an ensuite shower room, washbasin and toilet. This bedroom also features a kitchenette and is the room we often choose if available as this also has its own separate entrance. There is also a full sized bathroom with shower over the bath. Outside is a patio area and lawned garden overlooking farmland and the coast. Through the woods to the back is a large stone circled fire pit and if you ask Roger and Lesley nicely you may even get an night under the stars round a camp fire. There is parking for 3 cars I will be totally transparent and say this farm is owned by a member of my family and although you may expect a little bias, I am reviewing this after staying in all of the parts of the farm, talking to countless guests and hoping that others more unconnected with the family will back this review up. Many of the people I have met staying at the same time as me have been there before, booking once or twice a year and returning regularly. I think the accommodation is great value for money, the surroundings beautiful and the spot is a great base for exploring North Wales. Should you also want to do some adventure activities, Roger and Les can cater there too!
