When I come to Ozona,it's become a ritual to eat here,food and service is great. I recommend the Mexican dinner.

I'm no expert on TexMex being from the West Coast, but our ground beef nachos and taco salad were tasty. Friendly staff. Chips and salsa were brought to the table. The salsa is extra mild, on the bland side, but chips crispy and fresh. We ordered spicier ranchera sauce (green) for a dollar. Side of guac for two was decent size and avocado taste was predominant, served on a bed of shredded lettuce and thicker fried corn tortilla chips - yum. The meat on both dishes was ground so fine it was almost smooth, but we liked it. Good food at a good price. It hit the spot. read more

Stopped in Ozona for gas and food on a recent drive across Texas. Pepe's was awesome! The restaurant has a weird atmosphere of rock posters and collectable stuff for sale. Anyway, the chicken enchilada's were awesome! The chips were good and the salsa was good. I think that it's home made. A good place to stop for a good Mexican meal. read more

We overnighted in Ozona on our way to Austin, and Pepe's was one of only a handful of non fast food in the area. There was Pepe's and a steakhouse down the street. The only other options were Subway, Sonic, DQ, and a couple of pizza chains that were also gas stations (weird). So Pepe's it was. I had the cheese enchiladas, and hubby had the avocado enchiladas. While it wasn't the best food I'd ever had, it was still good, and the service was excellent. The sopapillas were more like deep friend wonton wrappers, so I don't recommend them. Our server, Fred, was friendly and funny, adding to the kooky atmosphere, and he made the experience great. read more

We came through town on a Sunday evening when they were the only restaurant open in town. The staff was stressed, overworked and tired, yet still managed to pull through with some of the best Tex-Mex I've had in years. Definitely would have been five stars if they'd had more people working. I say this because I overheard an employee on the phone saying it was like this every Sunday, so obviously they knew it was a problem. We stopped here for Breakfast. I ordered a sausage omelet with a side order of sausage. My wife ordered two eggs over easy with bacon. Good god, what a greasy mess. I had to use 5 napkins to remove all the grease from my omelet and off my plate. My wife had to do the same thing. Two over easy eggs and enough grease to cook 4 more over easy eggs. Then the so called hash browns were not brown but raw and also soaked in grease. My wife's bacon and my side of sausage looked like it had be cooked in the deep fryer instead of the grill. Don't stop here looking for a good breakfast, unless you like a LOT of grease. read more

If you're gonna stop for food on I-10 between El Paso and San Antonio, this is the place. Great place to eat, and the waitress is the best. The Huevos Rancheros and Migas are great, and make sure to have them with the flour tortillas that come with them. read more

This is the best Mexican Resteraunt we have ever ate at, the chip dipping sauce is homemade and it's hot; (the way it's suppose to be) . The service here is wonderful ! A must visit if you are ever in this area. read more

What a pleasant surprise. We were directed by the map-challenged hotel staff to the local Hitchin' Post -- that's really the name, not just me being a smart aleck -- and, 1 or 2 missed turns and two deer blind outfitters later, we spotted the crowded parking lot and inviting fountain here. Open until 10, which saved our late-arriving, sore-from-driving bacon/chorizo. No alcohol. Enchiladas w/ gravy were a welcome diversion from a 490-mile trip. Carnitas: Sardonicus says they were greasy in a good way and the most satisfying plate of man food ever -- even better than Ogg the Caveman's mastodon thigh back in 23000 B.C. Tried my first ague fresco -- if it gives you a brain freeze it has to be good. "Several notches above the slurpee," says Sardonicus, who likes slurpees. Service gets a B to B+. we were geocaching in the area and were going to eat drive back to another place by the park where Davy Crockets statue was at when we saw Pepe's and all the vehicles outside. Our first thought was yep, when there are that many vehicles outside must be good. We got our sweet tea and was first sign of a great place! Of course got some to go as well. We all ordered something different, Chicken enchiladas, beef fajita salad, beef enchiladas and beef fajita plate. All of us were enjoying our food. The enchilada sauce was so good, and I have not had that good an enchilada in a long time. Refried beans were homemade and not normal can like taste to them. Guacamole was a bit different as if it had a bacon taste to it, so good. Wait staff were funny and attentive. Will definitely come back if ever in the area again. read more

This place is quite a nice experience. Very decorative and colorful. Food was very tasty and menu was quite various. Chips and fries are nearly void of salt but still are appeasing to the taste. Who are these negative people? Listen, Ozona, is not casual contempo Houston or Dallas, it's nowhere unless you were once a Davy Crockett type. This food is great, end of story. Cheese enchilades are the best ever, but many Texans prefer dry, uneventful, low-fat cheese Tex-Mex with sauces that without a life to them. I've lived in Texas for five years and I still haven't found a five star Mexican food restaurant. Hear there is one in San Antonio, with the world's greatest taco. I have eaten at Pepe's every time I drove down the pike from Diego to Austin. Great breakfast, great tacos and the brown sauce for the enchilades is the best ever. Service is adequate. I mean, come on folks, you think you are on the Food Channel when you walk into a small town place like Pepe's? Get a life! If you are in a hurry, pack a lunch. Put it bluntly: you have to go to California--Baja or Left Coast--to get great Mexican food. read more
