Next, our tour guide Kat took us to the Takato in the Conrad Hotel where we were served delicious, melt-in-your-mouth sushi; angry chicken; and a Korean Zombie alcoholic drink that was so strong I had to trade it in for a mocktail. (Yes, I don't like my drinks too strong.) I was looking forward to the bao but the restaurant did not provide that on the menu for our group. Our tour guide was left apologizing for the missing item, though it wasn't her fault. At the Wild Thyme in the Atlantic Hotel we had coconut shrimp and conch fritters. We were limited to one each of the two items. The fruity alcoholic drink tasted somewhat like a pina colada (but I forgot the name). We topped off our tour with a trip to Archibalds Village Bakery, where we were given either a blueberry scone or a cream scone. I would have much preferred to choose my bakery item (like we did at Hollywood Donut on the Las Olas tour). Nevertheless, we had a fun few hours with a superb tour guide, and we were full enough from our tastings that all we had for dinner was some fresh fruit.

I initially booked a 50-foot boat leaving from Bayside, but a day before, the broker informed me the boat was unavailable due to a part issue. She offered a boat of the same size but leaving from a different marina. However, on the day of, we ended up with a 40-foot boat, departing from the Miami River, for the same price. The boat was supposed to arrive at 3 PM but didn't show up until 4:30-4:45 PM, drastically reducing our rental time. When we finally boarded, the captain tried to charge us nearly triple the balance due, leading to a back-and-forth between him and the broker. We were also given no choice in selecting the captain and were told to pretend we had chosen him via text. Leaving from the Miami River was a nightmare. It took an hour and 20 minutes just to reach open sea, during which we couldn't play music due to the residential area. Our six-hour rental was reduced by nearly three hours due to this. We were promised a landing on an island to mingle with other boats, but instead, we docked in the middle of the ocean with nothing to do but hang out on a water mat behind the boat. The entire experience was frustrating and ruined my birthday. The broker later apologized and offered a four-hour rental with 10 guests as compensation. Despite following up repeatedly, she eventually said the offer was only valid on weekdays, making it impossible for us due to work schedules. It was extremely disappointing to see on their social media channels that the boat we were supposed to have actually departed that same day at the same time it was scheduled for us, which makes me wonder what ended up happening. I will never use this company again. They failed to deliver on their promises, provided no compensation for the size difference in the boat, and caused a lot of unnecessary stress and disappointment. My guests and I were extremely dissatisfied with the service, and I wouldn't recommend Magical Moments Yacht Rental in Miami to anyone. Besides the Downtown Miami station, the Cypress Creek Tri-Rail station is one of the best on the…read moreline. It has a creative architectural design that makes it more pleasant to not only look at, but inhabit and circulate. My standard critiques that the station and rail lines were evidently contemplated to build upon the locational efficiencies next to the freeway exist, but at least in addition to facing a (too) massive surface vehicular parking lot, it's design is carried through to the bus stops and on the other façade, faces mid-size office buildings within nearby walking distance that it proves its utility in its immediate context. Otherwise, it is unfortunate that this station is disconnected from the more walkable areas of Oakland Park/Wilton Manors, thus relying more on automotive transportation for the "last mile" travel - again, partially but proactively made-up for with the bus/public transit integration by the cities and County. I must continue to emphasize as with other Tri-Rail stations, there's not enough benches nor trash cans. There's also the standard anxiety if the train is coming, if you're on the right platform, the trains don't run late enough. But I must say in sum, it's such a net positive to have rail options (with signage and audio message in three (3!) languages) in this urban-suburban-car-dominated-megalopolis. I support it fully and want MORE investment in stations like this to make it better.

Even if they aren't open I like how they have a digital board out front to let you know about upcoming events. For instance there are is a whole schedule of movie nights. I had a nice chat with Mark who steered me towards some helpful magazines and brochures so I can add even more content to Yelp. LOL, stay tuned! Even if you are a local and not a tourist, sometimes it is fun to vacation in your own backyard. The visitor's center has some great resources about places and events you may not even know about.
