Just purchased a home near this lake and we couldn't be happier. This lake area offers tucked away parks, private picnic areas, and awesome campgrounds! There's plenty of space to run around and get some much needed fresh air. Bonus, this lake is away from most of the traffic which makes it super peaceful! Have a boat? There are plenty of boat launching areas!

Loved it. All the grandkids went and had a good time. Lots to see and do. We will be back.

    Thankful!

There are so many things to do at the lake. One day while relaxing and enjoying the warm weather, I noticed so many activities going on. It was great!!! Check out the pics....... I can't wait until summer so we can enjoy the water with our kayak or hop on our friends boat. If you want a bite to eat, check out Shipwreck Cove on the water.

We rented a pontoon from Nashville Shores Marina and spent a lazy day on the lake. It was calm and quiet for the most part (it was a Monday so the weekend warriors weren't out). We found a small cove out of the wind and hung out most of the day. It was tranquil and relaxing. We saw lots of wildlife on the shoreline - deer, cranes, turtles, etc. And , we were joined by two duck families. I would highly recommend it!

Beautiful lake. We rented boats and meandered around the lake. There are plenty of places to pull over, and there were several cliff jumps and rope swings. It was not too busy when we went.

Great hiking trail . Fun 4 mile loop and a good view of the lake . It stays cool in the shade and about half way there's a spot you can jump in for a swim

Loved it here! We always spend about 30 minutes for our dogs to tire themselves out. They chase the ducks, but the ducks fly and are too fast. When and if my dogs ever get a duck, they will run away from it. Big scary monster until they have to face it lol. It's quiet here. Be sure to bring a mat if you're wanting to hang out, there's no picnic tables. Only trash bins. The water was neat, there's lots of rock. It was coooooooold!

I LOVE going to Percy Priest! They have everything; boat rentals to hiking/biking trails, waterfront access, fishing, cabin rentals, etc. Great fun for adults, kids, and furbabies; yet, it's still peaceful.

Water is nasty, smells, may be the dirtiest lake I've ever been near. I say near as there was no way I would swim here.

This parking lot is smaller, but we were surprised to find a spot easily. When we left around 10:45, there was a line of about 6 cars waiting, though cars seemed to move through fairly quickly. There is a nice bathroom at the top of the parking lot. From this entrance, you can also access the trail along the lake, though strollers and dogs are not allowed on that trail. We chose the lower paved trail instead (part of the mulch trail loop). It's wide -- almost road-sized -- and newly paved the entire way. It took about 15 minutes to reach the lake, and there's plenty more paved trail beyond that. We saw frogs, ducks, turtles, deer, an owl, and even a bald eagle. My kids stayed engaged the whole time. The trail was flat and easy for stroller pushing, and my older kids rode scooters without any issues. There were lots of families, dogs, and walkers out, but it never felt overcrowded. Overall, this is a great near-the-city option for getting young kids into nature without dealing with steep terrain. The other entrance off Granny White has the visitor center and a bit more parking.

It's out in Hendersonville on Old Hickory Lake, and it has a handful of pavilions (five I think) as well as several picnic tables. There is a boat ramp at Rockland, and a lot of people fish or launch their boats from the area. I've been to a handful of picnics and large, organized "get-togethers" (as my family calls them) at Rockland. There is plenty of room for the little ones to run around or for a game of football or frisbee. Rockland has a pretty nice view of the lake, and it's right beside the Old Hickory Dam. There's a great stretch of shore near the dam that makes for some of the best fishing in the area, and it's a lovely place to just take a walk or enjoy the scenery. Not my favorite park in the greater Nashville area, but possibly my favorite in Hendersonville.

If you need a tee time, sorry, I might already be there. I've made friends, ran races, had full character development arcs, and I see the same deer so often that we're basically on a "head nod" basis. I've named them. They know my schedule. One of them owes me money. Honestly, Nashville Parks should either sponsor me, put my name on a bench, or issue a restraining order.

I have been making my way to all the Metro parks and Shelby Park sits high on my list right now, and for good reason! The park is well equipped with all the park staples and even a few specialty areas. I come here for the trails, as I love wandering around the park, through the woods, by the golf course and around the water. Just something about it all that makes the walks a bit more enjoyable. In addition to the trails the park offers the classic park offerings such as playgrounds, gazebos and sporting fields. The park is well kept and clean. All parks are a bit worn and dated, but it is not enough to detract from the park itself. Nashville does a good job keeping the parks in good working order, as well as clean. Overall, I am a fan of Shelby Park!
