Dave is great in a bunch of ways. First, he's extremely competent. He'll do a great job. Second, he…read morehas some brains and understands what you're trying to do. He will work with you and make reasonable and good suggestions. Third, he will save you money. Lots and lots of money. We had an old water heater that went out, which was a real problem because we have baseboard heat. So, we really needed a water heater. We had a quote from our heating company and Dave said he could beat the quote. He got us a continual hot water heater, installed, for about $4K less than what we had been quoted. Work was top notch. We have hired Dave for several projects, not the least of which was replacing the hot water heater. A major project was renovating our garage. His work was great but a lot of it was during the winter, which meant that there were a number of people who were calling about heaters and issues with their house affected by the cold. When we needed a hot water heater, our work went to the top of the list. When it's January and some of the garage needs to be finished, work for others that is really important in the Alaska winter (like water heaters and other issues) went to the top of the list. I suppose I could bitch about that but I also recognize that the time line of my garage being finished isn't a matter of life and death. Fixing someone's heat or hot water or other matters can be life or death in an Alaska winter. I figure it's better to have a really competent handy man with a conscience than making sure my garage is his A#1 priority. So when his timeline for finishing our garage gets delayed because he's fixing the heat on an elderly couple's house, I don't worry. All in all, Dave's done excellent work. He's also been completely up front and 100% honest and done a great job. I've recommended him to friends of ours who are older and need real help because I know he will do a competent job and be honest about his services. That is, I know he will do a good job and I don't have to worry about him overcharging them. My wife and I are already discussing our next projects with him. I don't know if I can give a higher recommendation than that.

U-B-Fixed LLC was one of three estimates we obtained. We've taught family and friends to do all their due diligence before hiring any business. We started with checking the required licenses of this business. Here on Yelp this business, which is claimed, advertises they are "General Contractors". Per Nevada State Contractors Board, they're not General Contractors and never have been. Furthermore, later the Nevada State Contractors Board web site changed to this business has no valid contractors license. Weird, huh? We checked with City of Reno, and this business has no City of Reno Business License. That didn't matter to Code Enforcement Officer Cynthia or City of Reno Business License Department, although Reno Municipal Code requires a business license to transact business in Reno. Weird, huh? On this business website, it advertises "U-B-Fixed is family owned and operated by Oceana Grabinowski". Per Nevada State Contractors Board, that's not true. Weird, huh? When we contacted the business about these discrepancies and ask about a Military Veterans Discount, the telephone number was disconnected. At that point we reasonably assumed the business was no longer in business in Nevada. Per Nevada State Contractors Board, advertising one is a contractor or that one performs or completes construction work or a work of improvement without required statement in their advertisements that they're NOT licensed as a contractor is a violation of NRS 624.720 Unlawful advertising; any person NOT licensed who advertises to perform or complete construction work or a work of improvement MUST state in the advertisement that they're NOT licensed as a contractor. Per Nevada State Contractors Board, NRS 624 requires that ALL electric, plumbing, hvac OR something that requires a Building Permit; OR ALL work $1,000 or more in labor AND materials; OR work that is performed as a part of a larger project the value of which is $500 or more REQUIRES a contractors license; and that contracting without a license is a crime AND a NRS 598 Deceptive Trade Practice. On the day of the appointment, the technician stated he was "on the way," but he never arrived. After multiple calls and text messages, there was no response. The appointment was not completed and was not rescheduled. Communication only resumed after I submitted an escalation request through my home warranty company. No service was ever performed. Because no work was completed, I requested a refund. This request was refused. I then informed the technician that I would be escalating the matter through the warranty company and appropriate consumer channels. Following this, I received text messages from the technician that I found unprofessional and inappropriate, including hostile language and remarks that I believe were derogatory in nature. I am retaining copies of all communication. Due to the failure to appear, lack of service completion, refusal to refund, and unprofessional communication, I requested reassignment to a different technician through my warranty provider. I am sharing this experience so other consumers can make an informed decision. I recommend documenting all communication carefully and proceeding with caution.

Cant stick to showing up on time claims he has a crew of workers, makes consitant excusses on why hes late or showing up. Edited on 3/27/2025, Cant even trust the owner to comment on here on reviews. Yes he came to our home to attempt to work on it and failed, along with as of today his "Legitimate buisness" is still on a expired licences as of 12/31/2025.
