The first month, we had no problems with this facility (although the staff tends to move at a glacial pace - which can be frustrating when you only have a one-hour lunch period available to work with during their open hours). This first month, I received my lab results the following day. Unfortunately, we did not conceive that first month in March and I had to go back a second month in April. Once again, the staff moved at their own pace, but I was able to have the blood drawn within my one hour lunch. This time, however, instead of receiving the results the next day...over a week passed with no word from my doctor about the results. I called my doctor a number of times to inquire about what happened only to find that the lab had simply failed to deliver the results to my doctor as they should have. This took several days for them to forward; by that time I knew I wasn't pregnant and the test wasn't relevant anymore. So, once again, I had to go through this process (in May). However this time was the worst of all. I arrived at the facility and was told that the sole individual capable of drawing blood had 'stepped out' for an indefinite amount of time. There is no one else capable of serving as her backup at the facility. I was told I could come back tomorrow or later in the day. I explained that my test has to be done on a particular day in my cycle and they close before I get off work, therefore I wouldn't be able to come back another time and I would instead have to wait. The lady behind the front desk, although very smiley, let me stand there for ten minutes while she waited for another one of her co-workers to come and register me in their system. After the ten minutes passed, she sighed and said that she assumed the co-worker would have come straight up to the front desk by now, so she guessed she should go ahead and process my paperwork. I'm not sure why she didn't do this to begin with. As she reviewed my labs, she noticed that they were ordered by my old doctor, who had left the practice in March. After making a call to another co-worker somewhere in the building, she told me that I would have to go and get new lab orders from my new doctor, as these were no good anymore. She never once offered to call my doctor to confirm the labs or ask for revised replacements. She simply turned me away. I called my doctor as soon as I got to the car and they said that they didn't understand why the situation had been handled so poorly. They offered to fax new lab orders to the office. I told them that I really didn't want to work with these people anymore - and besides...my lunch hour was over by this point and there was no indication that the sole individual capable of drawing blood had returned. The same woman accepted the 'bad lab orders' from me in April, after my doctor had already left. I was so frustrated to have wasted an hour of my life for no good reason. This process is incredibly important to me and it would have been nice if they had handled this professionally. Go anywhere else to get blood work done. That's what I plan on doing next month (should I need to).

However, there were serious issues with medication management and coordination of care. I spent roughly two and a half days in the hospital, including nearly two full days in the ER waiting for a room, and only about six hours in an actual room before being discharged. During that entire time, I was not given my regular osteoarthritis medication or my blood pressure medication, despite repeatedly requesting both and reporting ongoing pain. There were also clear communication gaps between departments. I often had to repeat information myself instead of it being shared between staff. I was being evaluated in coordination with St. Louis Heart and Vascular, including discussion of a loop recorder, but I was discharged before that plan was clearly communicated or finalized. I now have to restart that process as an outpatient. In addition, blood work was drawn and sent out for further testing, but I was discharged shortly afterward without any explanation of results or next steps. While staff were attentive in conversation, follow-through and coordination did not match that level of care. I hope this feedback helps improve communication between departments and ensures that essential medications and care plans are not missed in the future.

Policies are insane and it really feels as if their biggest concern is not the patient but rather what's in their wallet. Shame, I like the Dr I was seeing. Two touch-screen check-in stations booted up around 9:00 a.m. I was invited into one of two exam rooms for registration by an assistant, who took my vitals, and copies of my personal ID and insurance card. Then I was excused for about ten minutes before being invited into another room for my REAL exam. Quick check by nurse practitioner, antibiotic prescribed, payment processed. It's a little different to do the "paperwork" in the exam room, but there's no time spent at a receptionist station before or after. Prescription was sent to the pharmacy ten-feet away (my choice), and I was in and out with antibiotic in about one hour. This was actually my third "take care" visit - the first two years ago, and the second for a flu shot last month. If you have a minor ailment or injury when your regular doctor's office is closed, or just want a quick-stop flu shot, "take care" is a great alternative.

Overall, the NP was VERY thorough, almost to a fault, but it was appreciated. Diagnosis seems accurate and they had the 6 prescriptions filled in a matter of a few minutes, super quick for this Walgreen's pharmacy. I would recommend the Take Care Clinic to a friend who, like me, was unable to get in to see their PCP and wanted to be able to get back to work rather than waiting an extra day or two.
