This was an amazing time. Our raft guide Andrew was so entertaining and knowledgeable about the river and how to guide the boat. We did the half day tour which lasted about three hours or so. River was low for the season, but was still really fun. We were able to jump off a rack into the river, which was refreshing. It was my first time white water rafting, and the Half Day Browns Canyon Tour with Performance Tours was a perfect introduction; with 6 Class III rapids and plenty of opportunities in calmer water to practice paddling and catch a breath. The tour company was very well organized, and the guides were able to get everyone suited up with proper gear and loaded on to busses efficiently. We received a safety talk on land before entering the rafts and got instructions on how to sit, how to paddle, and what commands to watch out for. Our guide, Charlotte, was enthusiastic, confident, and informative. I really appreciated her clear and straightforward instructions, both on land and on the raft. She also had plenty of dad jokes to last the entire trip ;) Overall, I would recommend this tour for first time rafters of all ages! First time rafting in a long while. However, that was not much an issue with our guide Jared to keep everything simple and mellow. He didn't go over the same speil every other guide was about, just tested our resolve and understandings of rowing and off we went. The entire trip down the Arkansas River was eay going and mellow, in spite of record rains in the area. Jared also kept conversations entertaining and gushed on about his girlfriend quite a bit, telling us all stories of the cheeky jokes he plays on her. Good for that dude having a woman that drives him! After the whole ride, we were prepped and made the trek back pretty effeciently. Making time for another stop into town before heading out again. REED was the best guide ever ! As beginner rafters he safely took us down the Numbers Run on a full day. He was friendly , encouraging , helpful and just an all around pleasant guy. My wife and I are 50's and we had to college age girls also on the raft and Reed had us all working as a team , paddling , navigating and laughing at his non-stop jokes... "what it the differnce between a raft guide and a larger pizza.? One of them can feed a family of five." He also prepared a gourmet deli , build your own sandwich feast with appetizer while he cut up fresh veggies for the sandwich. We will be back next year with the whole family. We picked the PERFECT company. From the lady that answered the phone when we called (forgot her name but she's at the counter with glasses) to our guides, Tom and Tommy. Everyone was so exceptionally pleasant and patient. Tommy had my 18 and under crew (made up of my stepkids and nieces, etc.). He took GREAT care of them. He helped them do a sneak splash attack....but the parents won. Ha ha! OMG--Tom had to pull me back on the raft twice. First time I fell out. First swimmer of the year. Not a proud moment because it was PURELY attributed to not tucking my feet as they told me to. People---LISTEN to the instructions!!! Even my seven and ten-year-old didn't fall out. All was well and Tom is a strong dude. He got me back on quickly. Second time, we were allowed to jump in and swim. I love swimming but forgot how cold I was already from having fell in. I couldn't go further. Once again, Tom to the rescue pulling back onboard. I had to give those guys big tips because they were so good, knowledgable and you could tell they enjoy their jobs. And I learned so much on the tour--the collegiate peaks, rafting in WV, the view, and the experience....I will only use Performance from now on. Great organization!! read more

This rafting company was fantastic! our family of 9 (4 adults, 5 kids) did the Brown's National Monument 1/2-day Trip and had a great time, the first half of the trip was pretty calm, but that gave us a chance to practice our paddling, which we needed for the second part of the river - 6 sections of Class 3 rapids which were SO MUCH FUN! ... The water was COLD, but on a hot summer day, it felt refreshing. (if it's cloudy or cool, i recommend wearing the waterproof jackets they provide.) ... Had a great time for a friends bachelor party. The crew at performance tours made our experience a memorable one. The instructors and staff do a great job of getting you fitted with the necessary gear (wetsuit, booties, helmet, paddle and PFD - life vest). They size you up well and get the vests adjusted accordingly. The office staff is equally helpful. At the end of the journey they show and help you purchase the photos of your white water rafting adventure. The pics are by AVDI - whitewaterphotography.com they send a confirmation email with a link to download digital high res photos after your purchase. Our instructors Billy, Drew, Dan & Felicity were amazing in giving us a tutorial of what to expect while out on water. They do go over the safety do's and don'ts to keep you safe. We did what they called "the numbers" run which has a bit more rapids and is a 7.5mile journey over an hr and a half of water time. Be prepared for a bit of a workout. The experience requires you to be a team while out on the water with one of the instructors. Our trip with Billy was awesome! The entire bus of folks hang together within a short distance to traverse the waters collectively and just in case someone goes for a "cold" swim. FYI: They have you sign waivers. No booze. Don't show up wasted or under influence or you won't be rafting. Bring cash for tip. Stretch before! Haha they offer 20% off if you mention you been there before. Be honest. read more

Yes, it was fun! Honestly, that's bc Mother Nature is awesome. Offering five stars not bc of the fun but bc of how professional, safe and prepared I felt. It was our first time doing this and I had an exceptionally high level of anxiety. The day starts when the guides fit you for your gear (life vest, helmet). As the gentleman was fitting me for my vest, he was explaining why it needed to be so tight, and how they would pull me in with the shoulder straps if I were to fall in. He demonstrated by pulling up on the straps with some force which also allowed him to ensure that the vest wouldn't come off over my head if they did need to pull me back in. Then you take a short van ride to the starting point of your trip. That's where PJ did a great job outlining some possible scenarios you might encounter and what to do. He explained it in such an elementary way which is PERFECT for beginners. Once he wrapped up, we were assigned to our guide, Kara, who would then further explain in more detail about what to do, how she would communicate to us, and what to expect. Once she wrapped up, we were ready to put our knowledge into action! So all of the boats in our tour practiced rowing in a calm part of the river. It gave us a chance to practice hearing, understanding and performing the commands that Kara would eventually give us on the river. This part really helped to prepare us! Kara was incredibly personable throughout the ride, but she also maintained her professionalism and focus on making sure we had a SAFE ride. As you can see from the posted pic, we all had a blast, but Kara stayed very focused on keeping us safe. Other tips: wear a bathing suit, water shoes, a change of clothing, something eat for after your trip, some cash to tip your guide if you see fit to tip them, maybe a waterproof camera and maybe find out the river conditions before you go. We were told that the water can be very cold and high in the spring as you get snow run-off, so just be sure to do some research on when is the best time for you and for the experience you want to have. read more

All while taking in some of the most breathtaking scenery in North America. We're not experienced rafters, and we made it. Our family did our first white water rafting adventure yesterday. We did the half day trip through Brown's Canyon. Performance Tours provides safety gear - helmets and life jackets - and offers wet suits, booties, and waterproof jackets for a small additional fee. They have clean locker rooms to change in and even offered to hold onto the car keys while we were out. They transport you on a bus to the drop off point and pick you up at the pickup point. They have somebody taking pictures at one point and you can purchase them when you check out. Safety is a big deal so the entire bus ride was covering all the dangers and do's/don'ts of rafting. (Enough info to spark a little nervous butterfly in my stomach!) Maui and Jeremy were the guides for our group. They were awesome! They were informative, put safety first, but were witty and so much fun to hang out with. Maui was the guide in our raft and his expertise and experience showed. We laughed, got serious, got scared for a few seconds, and laughed some more. We also got to learn the history of the canyon as we passed the various landmarks. The entire ride was so cool on so many levels! I would definitely do this again and I highly recommend booking a trip with Performance Tours! read more

Definitely felt safe. We did the half day at Browns Canyon in early August as a group of 6 adults.. some of the other groups had small children. Fun for all ages definitely not too scary, at least in the late summer when the river is lower. Our raft guide FIONA was awesome. She is super knowledgeable about the area, land formations along the river, etc. and we had a blast and didn't stop laughing the entire time. My family and I had such an awesome time on the Browns Canyon Half Day trip! Our guide Colin was awesome. I have been on a few rafting trips before, but this was the first time a rafting guide has ever took the time to really teach proper paddling technique, and that made a huge difference! The trip began with very mild rapids, helping us get used to the paddling technique. The back half of the trip involved many Class 3 rapids and some more technical maneuvers that Colin smoothly guided us through. The company was also incredibly accommodating as I had to call back a few times to adjust our reservation in the week prior to our trip.
