This winery offers beautiful, peaceful vineyards to explore. Each row of grapes has a brass plate stating the type of wine the grapes are grown for. Super interesting. There are many places to lounge outside and listen to live music and enjoy the view. Inside is quite small, only fits enough for maybe one group at a time but is delightfully decorated and very clean. My friend and I chose to do the full tasting of wines from the vineyard. All of the whites and the rose were really refreshing and delicious. I was not a fan of the reds, however, I have yet to find an MD red wine that I enjoy, so maybe it's me. The ONLY reason this does not get 5 starts is the limited food selection. They do sell pre-packaged hummus, cheese and crackers as well as packaged cured meats from a little fridge inside the winery, however I would love to see this expand into a bigger selection and/or food trucks on site. All in all my favorite part of this experience (aside from the beautiful grounds) was the Wine Slushy. I got strawberry one and it was fantastic!! read more

Had a lovely afternoon here with some girlfriends. The property is beautiful (there is a nice big oak tree in front of the tasting room). The tasting room is very nice and you can taste 8 wines for $10 (you can choose which ones you want to taste!). There are also other options for tastings as well! There was live music, corn hole boards, and tables and chairs across the property. We had everything we needed to have a wonderful time here. During their wine release next weekend they will have a food truck and a brewery on site! The wine-well a lot of them are award winning! You have to try the reiseling. It's their highest awarded wine. Now I am normally not the biggest fan of reiseling, but this one is an off-dry one and it's perfect for sitting outside on a warm day (this is the bottle we chose to drink while we were there). I was really impressed because it was so good! If you buy 6 bottles you get 10% off, so that's what I did! Other wines I really liked were the pinot gris and the Chardonnay, but honestly there was not a wine that I didn't like. There is a lot to choose from (which is nice) so you have more opportunities to find something that you do like. They also had a wine slushee!! Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery as a wedding venue was simply perfect! My daughter was married at Perigeaux on Saturday September 24, 2022 and everything really was absolutely perfect. From the moment we stepped on the property, my daughter knew this was the place she wanted to have her wedding. On the day we discovered Perigeaux, we were leaving a different venue that wasn't quite right for us and decided to just explore other nearby locations. We literally popped in to just look, not expecting to talk to anyone but perhaps to get a phone number so we could arrange a formal visit. One of the owners, John, was there and left the vines where he was gathering grapes to come sit with us to talk about the possibility of holding my daughter's wedding and reception at the venue. We cannot say enough about how great John was from our first meeting to the last phone call to congratulate us a couple days after the wedding. John was so easy to work with and his entire aura of "calm" helped to make the stressful process of planning a wedding so much less stressful. He offered us two wine tastings that would allow us to taste the wines so we could select a few for the event. We invited the groom's parents to join us, as well, to the tasting. On the day of the event, John and his amazing staff poured wine in the tasting room and shared information about the various wines and the vineyard itself with any guests who asked. He also provided trash service throughout the event to ensure that none of our trash cans were too full. John anticipated so many of the possible needs that I didn't even need to ask or think of them myself. John coordinated with the tent rental company we hired for when setup and take down would occur, so we had one less thing to coordinate. We love that he gave us access to the property throughout the weekend so we could set up tables and decorations a day or two prior to the wedding and then return a day or two after the wedding to remove the final decorations. Be aware that choosing this venue is making the choice for an outdoor venue; the Tasting room holds only a dozen or so people comfortably. We rented a large commercial tent to protect our guests from both too much sun and the possibility of rain. The 30x60' tent fit perfectly in the area next to the Tasting Room. We used the arch and the open area on the opposite side of the Tasting Room for the wedding ceremony. We brought in our own stand alone bar and placed it on the concrete slab right next to the tent and hired a bartender to pour drinks. The wine we decided was best poured in the Tasting Room since his staff could share information about the grapes and anything else our guests were interested in knowing about the wines they were enjoying. We used the TV in the Tasting Room to show a collection of photos of the bride and groom as they were growing up through the years on a video loop - the guests loved the visual while they sat and talked over a glass of wine. Guests were permitted to roam among the vines when they just wanted a quiet retreat from the DJ and the wedding crowd. The view to the west was just stunning as the sun set behind the vines. As the wedding ran into the evening, we shifted gears and sent the DJ home and enjoyed a fire at the fire pit. We played songs on the guitar, sang, sipped more wine, and just enjoyed the beauty and the calm of the venue. John, one of the owners, could not have made this experience any more pleasant or easy. He was kind, accommodating, and sincerely wanted our daughter's wedding to be absolutely perfect... and it was! read more

Named for the town of Périgueux in Aquitaine, renowned for its goose liver foie, Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery is a lovely little winery. (Sidebar: when I asked the tasting guide if the emblem for "Peri-go" was a duck or goose, he told me it was a goose and corrected my pronunciation: "It's 'Peri-GOO'," he said. Actually, sir, the town in France is Peri-GOO, but the bastardization chosen for this winery would be pronounced Peri-GO by any Frenchman. Just sayin'.). The setting is quite pretty, nestled back off of Route 4, on 30 acres of reclaimed farm land. And the tasting room -- beautifully converted from a tiny two-bedroom tenant shack -- successfully captures a rustic but classy French farmhouse feeling. Our tasting guide was nice (he never introduced himself, so I didn't get his name), but seemed less than knowledgeable about the wines in which Perigeaux specializes. Like, when I asked him about the residual sugar content in the Riesling, he said, "Hmm, I'm not sure. I'd guess like, 13...14 percent?" I'm no wine expert, asking about residual sugars is a pretty basic tasting question, and even I could guess that there was *no way* that semi-sweet white had 13% r.s. Maybe it's because the Maryland wine industry is even younger than the Virgina wine industry and hasn't quite found its footing yet; maybe it's because the glasses imparted an odd odor to the wines' bouquets; maybe it's because many of the wines are made from juices imported from other countries; but I wasn't overly impressed by the standard wines we sampled at Perigeaux, from Merlot to Chardonnay. Their dessert and specialty wines -- made from imported grape juice -- were just okay, tho I particularly liked the light, refreshing 2007 Pinot Gris Blush. But my favorite wines were the Mackall Road line of semi-organic, sulfite-free table wines, especially a full-bodied, peppery 2008 Merlot. A pretty setting and tasting room overlooking their ten acres of vines, plus a reasonable $5 tasting fee for nine wines make Perigeaux an A-OK stop if you happen to find yourself on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Just don't expect world class wines with your view. read more

Beautiful Vineyard on sprawling estate overlooking the river and farm country dotted with large trees and ample shade! All the wines are made with estate-grown (on premise) grapes that you drive past as you come down the road to the parking area. There's a small windowed cottage that acts as a tasting room with a uncovered wrap-around porch. The atmosphere is what one has come to expect when visiting a winery or vineyard, classy, warm, clean, and inviting with plenty of tables and chairs to relax and chat while enjoying a glass of wine. The wines themselves are all on the dryer side, medium-bodied to bigger reds with lots of flavor and bountiful bouquets. If you happen to taste a wine that seems a bit strange, don't be afraid to ask your taster to verify what you are tasting is what you are suppose to be tasting... when I came most of the wines on the tasting bar were older and well on their way to oxidation but Olivia was beyond accommodating and opened new bottles to ensure my tasting was fresh! What a difference it made, it transformed what could have been a horrible experience into one I thoroughly enjoyed. The one is a bit expensive for what it is in my own opinion but you can tell the winemakers take pride in what they do, plus it needs to be remembered this more a boutique vineyard than anything else, small-batch quantities, specialized and again estate-grown, they do everything themselves! We did not love the wines at the tasting but gave them our business and purchased a couple of bottles that were just ok from the tasting ( Chardonnay and Cabernet). Either both bottles corked or their wines just don't taste very good. We contacted them to tell them about the Cab, in particular, which upon opening tasted like vinegar and we immediately discarded, and we never received a response. We wouldn't return & do not recommend. read more

I came here for a tasting on a Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend. It's a nice sized venue. It's unfortunate that it was cold and rainy that day. The outdoor area is lovely!! Georgina (I think that's what her name is) was awesome during our experience. She was knowledgeable, personable and friendly. They have some really delicious wines. I'd definitely recommend the Mackall Road Cabernet Sauvignon and the Summer Sunset. I'd definitely come back here when the weather get warmer to experience what they offer. read more

As a new Maryland resident, what better way to experience the area than enjoying the local wine! We stopped by Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery on a Saturday afternoon because we heard positive things about their medium bodied Cab Franc. Upon arrival, the gravel driveway is bordered by vines which really adds to the vineyard feel. When we entered the building, we were the only guests there and were greeted immediately. The host verbally informed us of the two tasting options of which we selected the dry to semi-dry option. Once our tasting began we were not provided a tasting menu which meant our only knowledge of the wine we received were her comments without any knowledge regarding price. While Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery has a wide selection of varietals (Cab Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Riesling, etc.) the balance within their wine is lacking. Despite being fermented in American Oak, the wines lacked body ranging between light and light to medium body. The wines also exhibited high levels of acidity making certain flavors prominent which are typically considered too overwhelming/overpowering for the varietal. Our host did state a previous customer mentioned tasting lemon and/or lime in all of the wines meaning a previous client had expressed concern regarding the level of acidity in the wine. During our tasting, the wine with the highest acidity and most substantial lemon flavor was the Riesling. While most Riesling is a high acid wine, the Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery Riesling lacked some of the additional dominant flavors which make it more enjoyable as an acidic wine (ie. pineapple, apricot, nectarine, peach, apple, pear). Due to the fermentation and processing of the wine, it was difficult to find a varietal we enjoyed as most of the wines were not ready to be enjoyed in the present. However, because of the pH and acidity, the wines of Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery may bottle age well. With that being considered, we purchased a bottle of Petit Verdot to hold in climate control to see if three to five years of bottle aging will help bring out the traditional black cherry and plum flavors. Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery has wonderful reviews from 2015 and 2016 so we were disappointed but maybe this is an off year. Unfortunately, without the tasting menu or speaking to the winemaker, it was difficult to ask if the climate conditions or other factors caused the change in wine quality during the years of harvest for each varietal. At this time, the price is not appropriate for the quality. read more

It seems like I see a lot of negative reviews coming from people who used Living Social or Groupon to get some cheap price. People who pay less always seem to want more which is why I would never use those services for my business. I went to Perigeaux this afternoon with my girlfriend and it was charming and beautiful. While I drink a lot of wine, I'm not an expert, as some of the commenters obviously are. I know what I like. I usually drink $5-8 wine from Trader Joe's, and no, it's not good wine. Most of the wine I tasted at Perigeaux was good. My favorite was the Montepulciano. I enjoyed a glass and bought a bottle. Music on this day was nice and provided by Calvert County native Jimmy Yoe, who also shared stories of the Southern Maryland of yore. This is not Napa or the Willamette Valley. This is Southern Maryland, and I thought it was a lovely place to spend an afternoon. read more

We went out to Perigeaux to check out a possible wedding venue. What we found was the friendliest, most helpful owners you'd ever hope to meet. Mark and John had their own ceremony on their property and were more than happy to not only show us the grounds, but busted our their own wedding pictures so we could see what a wedding there would look like, and even dug out the price guide from a local vendor. We even ended up checking out a hotel about 15 minutes away at their suggestion for guests and bridal party to stay at. John poured us a glass of wine while we took a look at the material, and Tom the employee behind the bar in the tasting room assisted us when we were ready for our tasting. We still have a few more venues to check out before the final location decision, but I can tell you this... the experience we had at Perigeaux would lead me to recommend this winery for it's product, but also as a wedding location and for truly good people who deserve every ounce of success they have. And as for the wine... let's just say we left with an assorted case of some tasty choices. :-) read more

I'm the worst type of wine snob when it comes to "local" wine unless one lives in Montalcino Italy. The wines are nice and dry here with less sugar unless you have their sweet wines. The Reds actually taste like better dry reds and you can tell the grape varietals easily. Sangiovese tastes like its Italian big brothers. Great skill has gone into their wines. This is the only regional mid Atlantic winery that is any good. To a snob like me. No extra grape juice sweetness or formaldehyde flavor. If you catch my drift. read more

Went to this winery on a Living Social Deal. The deal included 2 tastings and a bottle from a select list of wines. Ambiance: When we arrived, we saw that the setting was gorgeous, there was outdoor seating, and a musician was playing. You could see the grapes growing which made the ambiance even cooler--we were excited to taste! However, the wines and service were quite disappointing. The wines: There were around 13 wines that we tasted. By far, the best wine was the Cab Franc--unfortunately it was priced at $42 and not on the list of wines we could get with our deal. Many of the others wines had a pungent smell to them and gave a bad first impression. The tastes were sub-par for Maryland wine and the prices were higher than most other Maryland wineries. We did wind up getting the Summer Sunset wine with our offer--a sweet, average, drinkable "porch" wine. The servers: In all fairness, it was crowded at the winery (mostly due to living social users); however the service was also sub-par. The tasting took way longer than it should have--the server was not attentive to us as a couple. They also made many mistakes with other customers that we witnessed, which caused our tasting to be delayed and sporadic. Overall: While we were not a huge fan of the wine or the service, we did love the ambiance--and it could still make it a fun afternoon. However, we would much rather spend an afternoon at Running Hare Vineyard, just a few minutes away. read more

I have to agree with the other reviews. My husband really enjoyed the wines here but I found the scent of the wines to be a bit unpleasant. The tastes were better than the smells but like many other Maryland wines that I've tried, these ones failed to leave a great impression. They did have a great selection of wines but I found the bottle prices to be a bit outlandish considering the wines were par at best. That being said, it's still a very young winery, they've won tons of awards and are starting to really market themselves. Try the 2010 Pinot Gris (much better than the filtered 2008) and the sweet wines, those were the ones that I found the most intriguing. The staff was incredibly friendly and personable and was very helpful when it came to describing the wines (whoever it was giving the tastings on Saturday afternoon was AMAZING. That being said, we had no plans to stop at this winery while exploring southern Maryland/South County so we were happily surprised by the great atmosphere, the low tasting price ($5 for ~9 wines = awesome) and the friendly staff and beautiful location. Definitely worth stopping for the tasting for anyone traveling in that area. read more

We had a terrific time when we visited the vineyard. The wine tasting was a lot of fun, and we found one particular wine that we really liked. We purchased 6 bottles to return home with. Unfortunately, when we opened the first bottle at home, the wine was nothing like we tasted. After trying several of the bottles we had the same result every time. I did finally reach out to the owner John, who was very understanding and accommodating. He agreed to a resolve that worked for us since we live two hours away. The customer service is exceptional, and I am looking forward to visiting the winery again the next time I'm in that area. read more

Visited about 6 months ago and had a good time so figured we would visit again with friends. Our tasting was very disappointing. The tasting glasses were dirty (one had spider webs across the top) and during one pour I received a chunk of something in my pour (might have been cork but couldn't tell for sure). The lady pouring for us corrected both of these issues by getting other glasses and re pouring, and we appreciated the effort. But several of the wines offered for tasting were off from what when had during our previous visit, nothing like what we remembered. It was almost like the wine was old, opened from a previous week and started to get old or oxidize. We informed the person pouring for us and she let the other man behind the counter know we thought some of the wines had off smells and tastes (I'm not kidding, the moscato smelled like dirty shoes). We taste wine all the time so we know when something is up. He said that the wine smelled different but the flavor profile was correct (no freaking way in my opinion). The tasting was suspect and we were disappointed enough by the experience that I don't think we will be back. read more

This is an amazing vineyard with incredible wines! We've been coming since they opened, and I can't wait to come back! The owners are very generous and give tours of their vineyard and production facilities. What I find especially remarkable is that their wine is grown on site. Most other vineyards in Maryland import their grapes and mix. That makes Perigeaux very special. There are also two adorable Labs named Matt and Luke that greet visitors. read more

The wine is not great, but then again, 500 years ago it probably wasn't any good in France or the Rhone valley, either. Good wine takes time, and it's nice to see vineyards like this opening. I've visited a few times during the summer over the last two years. It's a quick drive from DC and a nice escape from the city. The staff have always been extremely welcoming and accommodating in every way, while also very knowledgable about their wines. We love that we can bring our dogs and own food for a nice, long picnic with wine. The Montepulciano is by far their best wine, and during our last visit the staff was nice enough to sell us a bottle even though not offered on the menu. read more

Should be six stars. We just had our daughter's 21st birthday party there. There were over 35 friends and family. The owners went out of there way to accommodate the insanity. The service was terrific. In preparation for this event we relied on their staff for recommendations for flowers, music and caterers. Visited here this past weekend with a large group of my girlfriends. I was very impressed. The staff was gracious and knowledgeable and very accommodating to our large group. I enjoyed the wine tasting and found a few favorites that I will definitely buy in the future. There was live music playing while we were there and they were great. They interacted with our group and took requests. They were locals Jay Upton and Jim Yoe and we will look for them on the events calendar in the future. . The grounds were beautiful and I look forward to a return visit when it is not raining so I can enjoy the outdoor area, which looked very relaxing and inviting. LOVE LOVE LOVE this winery. Was introduced to the wine by a friend, and had loved it from the first sip, so made the trip out with my hubby to do the wine tasting. The only reason for the one star is the ambiance. Very nice location, pretty setting but then you get the tasting. This winery has the distinction, in my opinion, of having the WORST 15 tastings ever. They should give you 5.00 for the endurance of trying to find one wine that did not smell or taste like skunk. I kept hoping for at least one wine I could buy, as I love Maryland wines. At least the weather was great and we were outside, the grass received a lot of wine. Glass after glass failed. Finally, after about 6 glasses we get an unlabeled Chardonay. It actually was fairly palatable. Then we are told it can't be sold and it is the only bottle they have. REALLY, why tease with the only good bottle, then say, Nyah,Nyah, Nyah , you can't have it. Also the bottles were the most expensive in the area 18.00-36.00.
