I'm disappointed with my experience with Kathryn Leyrer, PA. My referral was for two concerns: rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis. I arrived 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment time, but I was not called back until approximately 40 minutes after my appointment time. I understand that clinics can run behind, and that was not my main concern. What was most disappointing was the interaction once I was seen. I was told that she could only address one concern because the appointment was scheduled for 20 minutes, and she emphasized that documentation takes time. I understood that the visit was limited, and I asked if she could at least briefly look at my other concern. My intention was not to delay her or keep her running behind. Ultimately, she spent less than 10 minutes with me. I felt that the way the limitations of the appointment were communicated was unnecessarily rude and that I was being scolded for asking about my second concern. As a nurse at UC San Diego who works in a clinical setting, I understand the pressures of a busy clinic and the importance of documentation. However, I would never want a patient to feel that they were being reprimanded simply for bringing up a legitimate health concern that was on my referral. I would expect the same level of professionalism, courtesy, and patient-centered communication that I strive to provide to my own patients. Unfortunately, I left the appointment feeling dismissed rather than heard or cared for. I will not be going back to see her. read more

I recently switched to Perlman Clinic for my annual exam after Anthem made Scripps out of network. I'd never heard of Perlman before, but it's nice to know they take Anthem and have urgent care locations around. Although it also sucks being around sick people when you're there for an annual exam. I had my annual exam at the Bressi Ranch location, and it went well. The doctor was thorough and did the usual checks. However, two people tried to take my blood and couldn't get a draw, so I decided to wait until my dermatology appointment the following week to try again. My dermatology appointment was at the Solana Beach location, and the doctor there was great. She did a full check and mentioned that my insurance might not cover a biopsy, advising me to call and confirm the codes first, which I really appreciated--it saved me from a potential surprise bill. She also let me know that the scab/biopsy site was fine to stay for another week or two. After that, I tried to get my blood drawn again, but this time four different people attempted it without success. They tried a butterfly needle, a heating pack, and had me drink water, but nothing worked. I've never had this issue at Scripps, but they were kind about it and ultimately suggested I go to Labcorp instead of continuing to poke me. Overall, everyone was very friendly and professional. The staff was prompt, and I appreciated the care and attention from the doctors. While the blood draw experience was frustrating, I still had a positive experience and feel comfortable returning. read more

I liked the provider (not sure if it was a doc or nurse practitioner/they list the persons name without the title, weird) anyway, she was super nice and didn't hassle me about getting the myriad of shots that are pushed on people these days. I had my annual physical at Perlman clinic in Solana Beach today. The front office staff were friendly and very helpful. My wait time was just a few minutes and I filled out some health questionnaires while my vitals were taken. My primary MD was very thorough and spent almost an hour going over my health history from the past year as I had had 2 surgeries and it has only been 10 days from last surgery. My primary MD was aware of my health issues and her questions and responses really made me feel that she was genuinely concerned and cared about my health and helping me get better. She attentively listened to some post op questions I had and gave me good advice for questions she did not have the answer to. She even directed me to make another follow up appointment with surgeon as one test had not come back yet which I erroneously thought she had ordered. I had come prepared to ask a lot of questions and had printed out post surgical info I wanted to discuss with her and she went over everything one by one and compared previous labs to my current post op labs which had showed a rare bacterial infection which surgeon treated. I felt I was in very good hands with my primary MD. I'm not afraid to ask questions and had brought reports I wanted to discuss. Thanks Perlman! read more
