Unfortunately, it was the Dr's first day at this location and had a hard time with the technology and in the end told my daughter to take deep breaths and rub her belly to calm. I called back next day as she was referred out without a full exam and the new doctor within their practice doesn't take insurance! We have been texted and emailed every 24 hours to pay our co pay. It has not even been 10 days and they sent a threatening text that we were being sent to a collection agency!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously??? With Cigna PPO? This was a Sunday even. This is a long overdue review- I've been going to Healthtopia clinics since they opened in 2021 in my neighborhood. I'm happy to see the clinic is expanding and helping patients! Dr. Howard and Dr. Hardison are the NICEST and BEST doctors I've ever met. Hands down the most down to earth doctors and they have given me so much life advice too regarding baby (life advice given before I had baby too!). I try to see them only but they are booked in advance and busy seeing other patients at the other clinics they've expanded to. My whole family used to go here when they had high-quality Care and we're not Profit motivated. Last year the staff have become extremely short and rude and don't listen to the concerns of the patients. There is no follow through and it just seems extremely unorganized and mismanaged.I switched over to med hero about three months ago and my experience has been much better. I have found all the practitioners I have seen here to be very knowledgeable of both traditional and integrative medicines approaches. I've been seeing Dr. Joy Hardison since mid-2023 after going through three PCPs at Scripps Hospital. Dr. Hardison truly listens, cares enough to go above and beyond, and is refreshingly candid when she doesn't have all the answers. She always takes the time to explain her recommendations and the reasoning behind her treatment plans. She is, without a doubt, the best primary care physician I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. As her practice grows, it's worth noting that her physician assistants and nurse practitioners may not be as thorough or as experienced as Dr. Hardison herself. However, if you're looking for an exceptional PCP who is compassionate, skilled, and dedicated to her patients, I highly recommend Dr. Hardison. I saw Dr. Hardison yesterday, 3/28/25, and made sure to let her know how much I genuinely appreciate her help. read more

I'm so glad I found NP Kristin Lyons! The Hillcrest clinic is not only convenient as my primary care but also makes it easy for me to walk in for urgent needs. The location is perfect--within walking distance of several pharmacies and with parking available in the back. Kristin is genuinely warm, inviting, and a great listener. She respects my preference for natural methods, and her knowledge of both Eastern and Western medicine is truly impressive. She always takes the time to educate me and ensure all my needs are met, and even gives me drawings to make things easier for me to understand. The front staff is also fantastic--friendly, easygoing, and they make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. Met Dr. Joy Hardison and Ex. Director Angie Ibrahim for a business lunch months ago at the Encinitas location and this experience left me a memory I won't forget. It was not 5 minutes into conversation that Dr. Hardison looked at her OM Anahi and LAUGHED at me. Said I sounded ingenuine and canned... I am a young professional starting my career, I assume Dr. Hardison has been in shoes similar to mine before she got her credentials.... Also, keep in mind that I had reached out to propose this meeting and discussing a new drug we market that would be beneficial for her patients - all of which Dr. Hardison agreed to. We truly didn't get through much of the clinicals of the drug at all before she just straight up laughed at me. I am in offices all day and have never had this bad of an experience, ever. Chose to grab my things and leave right then and there - Angie walked me out as I was in tears and said that "Docs can be tough!" Haven't been back since and don't plan on it. Oh by the way, just before this interaction, I had found out my mom has breast cancer. Dr. Hardison and Healthtopia, do better and have some compassion. Isn't that why you got into medicine anyways? everytime I call into the office to renew a perscription, the staff tells me I need an additional appointment. While I do have health insurance, I pay out of pocket for this office because my doctor switched to Healthtopia. I used to pay $60/visit. When it is switched to Healthtopia, I started paying $150/visit. Months later, they raised the price to $175.00. After my doctor told me he would try and spread out my "in office" appointments to 3-4 times per year because of this incredible increase, the reception staff continues to tell me I need to come in once a month. Today, I had a phonecall appointment and I was charged $225.00. The care quality is inconsistent and unpredictable. The costs per appointment are outrageous and unfortunately, since my doctor is out sick, I am being thrown to whoever is in the office and charged triple what I used to pay. It is a hassle and a headache to call in and communicate with this place. I wish I could receive the care that I used to. read more

Two weeks ago I scheduled an appointment online to see Dr. Jack Miletic at 3PM. The day before the appointment a receptionist called me asking if I could move my appointment to earlier in the day because he needed to leave the office at 2PM. I was working that day, so stated I could not. I asked if I could reschedule the appointment for another and then was informed that he only works on Fridays. OK fine, so I rescheduled the appointment for this Friday at 2:30PM and wouldn't she know I got a phone call today asking if I could move my appointment to an earlier time because something had come up and he needed to leave the office at 2 PM. I could be wrong, but the impression I get is that he would just like to leave the two weeks in a row I have been inconvenienced. Horrible customer service obviously. Started with Dr. Howard in the 101 Encinitas offfice. An exceptional physician. Since expanding however only get to see non-physians, labs ordered no covered by insurance. I saw non-physician staff including trainees not impressed. The manager at the new Enicintas office was rude and uncaring and I believe not truthful as well last month. I am a Physician myself. I have been seeing Dr Graham in the Rancho Santa Fe office for over 20 years. He is very professional, and I have always been happy with him, along with his staff, until Healthtopia took over. Two weeks ago, I had Dr Graham do a full blood panel. I waited for the results which typically take 2-3 days, as they send the blood work to Labcorp, and when I called a week later, the lady I spoke with said that only a partial result was given from Labcorp, and that they were still working on finishing the test. I called back two days later, same story. I then asked if they could email me what results they currently had, and I was told that it is illegal to email the results to me. Then i asked, can you fax it to me? She said yes. I still don't know why emails are illegal. Upon receiving the barely legible faxed results, I was shocked at the numbers, called Healthtopia to discuss, no one was there, and I left a message. Looking up some of the results on line indicated that I was dying, and had to be hospitalized immediately. I went to Scripps Hospital, they re did some of the blood tests, and give me a clean bill of health. It was then obvious that Labcorp gave me some one else's results with my name on the test. I have been calling Healthtopia for over week now, asking that I speak with Dr. Graham to discuss the results. They say that they will give the message to Dr Graham to call me. When I call the next day asking if Dr. Graham was given the message to call, there were no records of my request. This is now over one week, with out a call back, nor do I have a mailed written result on the blood work as promised. I to this day, have not received the second half of the blood test, as they said it was still being worked on. I have been seeing Dr. Graham for over 40 years. Every time there was a need to contact the office, I would call and speak with Phyllis (Dr. Graham's wife and office person) and she would handle the issue or have Dr. Graham return my call within a reasonable time. After Phyllis retired, Dr. Graham joined Healthtopia Clinics, I assumed for the office support. As soon as they "took over", I always had the feeling that they were trying to wrest control of my healthcare from Dr. Graham. Recently, CVS needed approval from my doctor in order to refill my prescription. Usually, I would call Dr. Graham and this would be handled post haste. When I called the office, I learned that Dr. Graham had retired since my last visit so I assumed that Healthtopia would approve the refill but was informed that I would need to come in for a visit before this would be possible. The person who answered the call was almost defensive from the beginning, even telling me that many of Dr. Graham's patients were also unhappy with the change to Healthtopia. After many attempts to ask a question without being interrupted I felt as if they just didn't have much interest in what I had to say. It seemed extremely corporate and uncaring. In frustration, I stated that "if I can't even asked a question without being interrupted I guess there is no point to continue" but before I even finished my thought, the person from Healthtopia told me to have a good day and hung up the phone. I will not only not recommend Healthtopia, I will strongly urge anyone who considers them to do otherwise. read more

You could try answering your phones!!! Was told you did not accept my insurance yet on my health insurer's web site it states you do accept my insurance. Called to try and figure out the discrepancy and not one person at any of the options answered. In an urgent care situation this is unacceptable. PATIENT BEWARE!!! These people DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!! While Dr Graham, in Rancho Santa Fe is a lovely man and kind doctor, the office staff is incompetent and shows zero compassion. I am new to the area and needed my prescription filled. They "forgot" to submit my Rx for a week until I reminded them. Then insurance would not cover it, despite covering it the previous month. I needed them authorize my medication. They sent the incorrect form to insurance. The correct forms were provided but I'm still waiting for my meds. Now it's been 9 days without my medication and they never call me back or correct the issue. Shouldn't this be a common practice to authorize medication?Shifting blame is all they do. In fact, they were condescending and unkind and left me with no answers or resolution. It is dangerous to be off of my meds and I am suffering but they just don't care. Maybe time to find a more efficient and compassionate practice. If you want your doctor to care about your well-being, do not go to Healthtopia. read more

DO NOT USE HEALTHTOPIA clinics in San Diego. Unfair business practices and not upfront with charges or transparent pricing. I was told repeatedly by attending physician as well as multiple people at the front desk that the office accepted United Health Insurance PPO. I was charged almost $1000 for a simple blood panel because Healthtopia was in fact not a full carrier of United Healthcare but a sub or Tier II. I attempted to call and work something out with the office staff and the finance person was very short, rude, and unhelpful and unwilling to correct their mistake. Even after I informed them that their practice was incorrect, and connected them with United Healthcare to confirm that they were not fully covered by United Healthcare PPO, she chose not to help or correct their billing mistake. read more

Visited Healthtopia this morning after making an appointment online during the night for my 11 yo daughter's ear. Brief wait. Kind, empathetic, efficient staff. Very easy to negotiate insurance. Needed antibiotics for her acute ear infection, they called them in to Enci CVS and we were on our way to school in just over an hour appointment and meds complete. Much faster, closer, and better experience than making an appointment with my daughter's primary care office. Nurse practitioner, Jamie Lidster is fantastic! My daughter felt comfortable talking to her and asking questions. Thank you! We will be back. (Hopefully not anytime soon. ;-)) read more

I could not compliment this facility enough! What a great experience - I was having a difficult time trying to find a local urgent care center that could do x-rays, and avoid going to the emergency room for a sprained ankle. So many positive experiences: 1. Reasonable and fair cash pricing (with ability to use some insurance plans) 2. Clean and updated clinic setting 3. Awesome staff! I was able to see an incredibly knowledgeable ND and an MD in one visit; they were attentive, professional and their caring nature was exemplified by their work. I was assessed, had an X-Ray preformed, received a boot and was discharged in just over an hour. Now I can't wait to look into their other primary/integrative medical services once I am feeling better :) read more

I tend to veer away from Western medicine unless it's absolutely crucial, and I enjoy finding businesses which excel in alternative health modalities. That said, when I was having some health issues this past month, I was BEYOND THRILLED to find Healthtopia since they have a Naturopath on staff in addition to MDs... especially since they are an urgent care facility with extended hours. I went in to seek their help without an appointment, and although the Naturopath (Dr. Emaline Brown) wasn't there during my first appointment, when the MD (Dr. James Howard) diagnosed & treated me, he gave me prescriptions for the conventional medicine that I needed, along with recommendations for naturopathic medicines that Dr. Brown has pre-written for certain ailments. I loved being able to utilize both methodologies of medicine in my treatment. At the end of this service, I immediately scheduled my son for an appointment since I was excited to find a doctor (to whom I could take him) who wouldn't rely on pharmaceuticals as the cure-all for everything. My son's appointment took place this past week & was great. Dr. Brown and Dr. Joy Hardison both checked him out and gave their input. Even though this office isn't specific to pediatric, I will be bringing my son back for routine visits, and will be continuing to rely on them for my own health needs as well. Hi, Yelpers! It's been a while! I haven't been writing many reviews lately but my abysmal experience at Healthtopia made me boot up the ol' Yelp account AND my citizenship application for a country with socialized medicine. I needed a rapid COVID test because I was supposed to be traveling shortly, so this place was my only option around here, but please, if you don't need quick results, go literally anywhere else. The receptionist who booked my appointment on the phone was exceedingly rude and tried to get me to pay for my test out of pocket even though it's covered under my insurance. During the process of trying to book I was on hold for probably a total of a half an hour, AFTER not having my calls returned from earlier in the day. When I booked, they told me I'd be swabbed in the parking lot. Ok, cool! Then they send me a text telling me to check in when I get there. So do I go in or not? Called again, was on hold for ANOTHER ten minutes. Was told to wait in the parking lot. Fine, whatever. At least I called so they know I'm there, right? YOU'D THINK! Instead, I'm waiting in my car in the parking lot in 80 degree heat for 20 minutes past my appointment time. Hey doc, while I'm here for my COVID test, can you also confirm for me the symptoms of heat exhaustion? No one else is in the parking lot, so it's not like I can chalk it up to them being backed up. I call back. "Oh, did you call and let us know you were here?" YES, MA'AM, I TOLD YOU I WAS HERE. "Oookay sure. I'll transfer you to the provider." I guess bedside manner isn't part of the curriculum for healthcare workers anymore. The provider who did my intake over the phone was fine but kind of casual, which seems worth mentioning because I know some people don't like that. Then the lady who did my swab didn't explain to me what was going to happen, got mad when I was surprised by my brains getting beaten like farm fresh eggs. They told me I'd have my results back within 15-20 minutes, and that they'd give me a call. It took them an hour and a half to call me back, which would've been FINE if they'd just given me that timeline in the first place. The doctor also asked me some personal questions about where I was from, which frankly isn't what I'm looking for from a healthcare provider who is calling me about if I have the deadly plague. All around not an experience I'd recommend or try to have again. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting Encinitas from out of town when he had a pretty painful and urgent issue that needed tending to. We came into Healthopia and were very quickly checked in and taken back to a room. The physicians were with us within minutes. The team who helped were extremely gentle, knowledgeable, and took amazing care of him. We also sincerely appreciated their approach, using western medicine to treat him with wholistic practices for maintaining care post-visit. I can't recommend this clinic enough! read more
