PERMANENT TSB
Customers at the Permanent TSB branch in Mayfield are getting on with the ongoing "de-humanisation" of their interface with bank.
Of course, you may still come across a human face there, but not as many as before as, like all other banks, the new technology continues to hit home.
Sometimes, especially if you come across a "rookie" clerk, you feel as if you'd have been better off to have taken the mechanised route. But most learn quickly and, like their more seasoned counterparts, eventually won't want every "t" crossed and "i" dotted.
There is, of course, help available for specialised transactions, foreign exchange, for example. I had to send off a deposit for a summer holiday to a gite owner recently and it went through without a hitch thanks to the friendly expertise of the staff in that section.
One tip: if you have to send off a deposit, try and make sure that you get the euro account details from the owner. Many owners are English and naturally inclined to give you their sterling account. A "Swift" deposit to a sterling account will cost you over €30.00 while one to a euro account costs just a few cent.
