Watched numerous people who checked in after me get seen, no big deal, happens all the time. I get called, get my weight taken, give a urine sample, and get taken to an exam room. I waited, and waited, nothing. At 12:40, I finally decided to find out why I am still waiting to be seen. I walk up front, the woman at the desk seems bothered when I mentioned that I had still not been seen. She checked with the PA, who they had scheduled me with, and she was still in with the previous patient. I informed her that I cannot wait all day, that I have to get back to work. She asked me if I wanted to reschedule, I told her no I'll find another doctor. This is not the first time I have been made to wait an unacceptable amount of time, when I arrive on time. They simply do not care about wasting your time. Their customer service is terrible and is obviously not a priority.

Every interaction I've had with them has been unpleasant, which is unacceptable for a medical office where patients are often already stressed. On top of that, I have received other patients' medical information in the mail due to what appears to be a mix-up with similar names. This is a serious privacy concern and a potential HIPAA violation. Recently, I was contacted for a follow-up after a hospital visit. During that call, the receptionist told me I was considered a "new patient" because I hadn't been seen in 3 years--despite being with this practice for over 20 years. The reality is that since COVID, they no longer treat common illnesses like colds or flu, forcing patients to go elsewhere. They scheduled me with a PA without clearly explaining this. When I called back to cancel and requested that my file be closed, I was told it was taken care of. Despite that, I later received an automated message stating I "missed" the appointment. When I called to resolve the issue, I was transferred to billing and met with more resistance. Instead of helping, they questioned me about who I spoke with and insisted the appointment was never canceled. The situation became so frustrating that I had to call multiple times--and even from a different number--just to get someone to address it. At one point, a staff member even hung up on me. This entire experience was stressful, disorganized, and completely unprofessional--especially concerning given the appointment was related to high blood pressure. I would strongly caution others before choosing this office.

However I called back and they said that they were going to call a mediation to my pharmacy. I go the pharmacy and nothing was called so naturally I called them back. He and his staff have always been very responsive and understanding with terrific "Bedside Manner". I took advantage of and enrolled in a Concierge Physicians program to which he belongs. The service offers several benefits. One of the most important benefits for me is virtually instant accessibility to him and/or his staff 24/7. This is a hard review to write as I like the people at IMGNH, but their business philosophy and treatment of patients is substandard. Let's start with the reception desk. It could be because IMGNH has more patients than it can handle but on more than one occasion someone has picked up, left me on hold for 45 minutes and then picked up again only to ask "who is this." If you manage get to see a doctor or P.A., you're in good hands while on site but trying to get something done once you leave the office is near to impossible. You'll find they're not in, or that they've been sent a message that they won't respond to for hours and they especially don't like prescribing medications. I explained my age and medical history and that I have participated in my healthcare for decades. They don't care. There's a protocol and they're going to follow in Orwellian like fashion. They will not comply with the plan of the doctor who immediately preceded them. This practice (Cheshire location) seems terrified of bureaucratic and insurance pressures and from what I can see they're not so much engaging in medical care as they are working to satisfy the powers that loom over them. What you want is irrelevant. Getting a call back is the hardest thing of all. Try, and you'll get the distinct impression that the person on the other end has been taken away from something they are enjoying.only to have to deal with you. You and your call are a nuisance. You and your call are irrelevant. Even when I left a message about a mass on an internal organ they were largely nonplussed. Thank God, a follow up scan showed it was no longer there; I had to go for help elsewhere because of Cheshire's lack of concern and action. Because I had complained to the practice and threatened to go elsewhere, they have cut off all communication with me. Seems, I cannot go back and their are virtually no other options available. I've been looking for an internal medicine, GP, primary care doctor for months. The problem facing me now is that Connecticut is currently hemorrhaging fine physicians to other states. We have a significant brain drain going on and government either doesn't notice or it doesn't care. What we're left with is a state that has few primary care doctors and even they are currently not taking patients. One physician told me;"we simply do not work with insurance companies. Trying to get a drug approved takes all day and this is time when I could and should be practicing medicine." Where is the outrage at what medical professionals and patients have to endure in the pursuit of their health? IMGH won't take me back, and there are no physicians capable of handling my complex medical history (who are taking new patients). Worse, the best and the brightest are not going into medicine anymore and we patients are walking the streets helplessly without the care or medication that will keep us well. In some cases, it is literally a life and death situation. The Cheshire branch of Internal Medicine of Greater New Haven has demonstrated that it is ambivalent time and again, while the State believes it's micromanagement of the medical profession is a good thing. With no one to speak up and tell them their wrong what does the future hold? Politicians, as a rule like the status quo and doctors are not about to lose their license by trying to take on the state. The easiest thing is for them to move to a more "physician friendly state." Internal Medicine of Greater New Haven is but one case study but it has proven itself to be a place that you can and should avoid. At least that small exercise of power can be enacted. As for finding someone new good luck. I've been at it for months, am out of prescription refills, and for a man with my medical history this is not good.

Last week I discovered how unethical he is and I would not allow him to treat my dog! Do not become a patient of Vikram Rao. If you value your health and wellbeing, I suggest that you not become a patient of this doctor at Northeast Medical Group, 4A Devine St in North Haven Ct. I trusted him as my primary physician for almost 4 years now, only to recently discover that he does not document all of the medical visits or treatments that he provides. Last week I needed documented medical information from my records to take to a specialist, only to find out that he had not documented anything about my condition yet had been prescribing medication to me for this condition for well over a year. I am devastated, not knowing what to do about the information I need for the specialist. I now have to find a new PCP for treatment of this condition and begin this horrendous process all over again. What Vikram Rao did (I refuse to refer to him as a doctor) is unconscionable and he needs to be held accountable for his actions. I was advised to report this to the Department of Public Health Provider Licensing Investigation Unit and I fully intend to do so. Since he works for Northeast Medical Group, which is a part of Yale New Haven Health, I was also advised to make his superiors aware of this matter. He took an oath to "do no harm", yet that is exactly what he has done to me. There are reviews from other patients about his care on the Healthgrade website, I wish I had seen them sooner. I would never have entrusted my care to this person. The moral of my story is to check, verify, and recheck again. Ask for recommendations from people you trust and by all means verify that treatments being performed and prescribed medications to you from any doctor are documented in your medical records because trying to get a provider to own up to what they did not document can take months, during which time you do not have the information to take to another doctor for treatment. Be extremely cautious and watchful of your medical records. If something is missing or incorrect, it could be the difference between life and death, yours.
