[Coronavirus review] Maryland is a diverse state, and…read morefrankly this is the least interesting region of it, lacking the grace and and beauty of shale infused mountains to the west, the richness and peace of the waterside, or the dynamism and diversity of the more urban areas, Central Maryland is mostly known for farms and horses, which are nice enough but not something I drive to. This park does have some things to offer, and it is a viable destination during corona time. Parking in the "rapids" (I discerned nothing approaching white water on the lazy stream running by) is free, but yields a significant uphill climb up stairs that look like they might lead up to Shelob's lair. The park lives up to its name. If you're looking to shed some corona pounds, the trails are not long, but the changes in elevation make for a workout. The most picturesque rock outcropping challenged my fear of heights and I got the best shots I could. A wetland on the other side was a nice change of pace. I'm not a huge fan of parks that have different sites under one name, but in this case, the satellite Rocks Park sites, including Hidden Valley and a waterfall both to the north, provide a combined experience which makes the drive more worthwhile. I got a couple of hours of hiking out of the main location, but a solid half day including the other two sites, so if you're going to drive up here, you might as well check everything out.

Had no trouble parking at what I assume is the Rapids Parking Area prob 0.1 miles down from the Park HQ. The spot I parked at had about 5-6 spots, did not cost $, and there were not many people there that day at all. The tree blazes are well marked and visible with the different colors and there are plenty of signs on the trail for guidance (some of them were a bit convoluted). Well kept trails, with plenty of mossy rocks (true to name) and running next to a river/creek. I'm sure there would be much more greenery and plant life in the spring and summer. For the King and Queen Seat Loop (white trail) specifically: - at the trailhead, turn left to get the whole 3 mile loop experience (turning right leads you straight to the rock/view which isn't very rewarding). At some point you run into the blue loop which you can take for a small detour before coming back to the white trail. - as someone who works out and runs regularly, the loop is easy to mild moderate. Not too much incline. Great for a nature walk with some terrain and nice views. - the view at the King and Queen Seat is great! Hawks also perch and fly around there so you can see them pretty closely! Overall, a very nice park! I would come back again another season when more plants are back to life and also to check out Kilgore Falls close by.

Meh. The "grass" is articial astoturf in both the large and small dog enclosures. You can't really…read morethrow anything the size of a tennis ball or smaller because they used steel bar fencing around the activity area, and the bars are just far enough apart that if your dog doesn't get the tennis ball in time, then you have to go outside the out the gate and fetch it yourself. The park is great. They have shade areas during the summer with triangle shaped tarps over the…read moreseating areas. There is a good amount of seating. There's always a bowl in the park and there is a local water pump to fill it in case you didn't bring water for your dog. There are two sides, small dog side and large dog side. Unfortunately, when you drive by you see a lot of large dogs in the small dog area, but most people will move their dogs over to the large dog area if you walk up with a small dog. It's not very busy so most times you get there there's no one there but sometimes there are a few other dogs to play with. I have met several nice people there and being new to the area. They were all very welcoming. The rules require your dog to be up-to-date on vaccines, friendly, and that you pick up after your pet. They provide bags and trash cans. I have heard a few people say that some people bring unfriendly dogs and they have been warned and that's where a lot of people will not come back because of bad experiences. Luckily, I live very close and I can check it out before I take my dog there. The gravel parking lot is plentiful and there is a small trail that leads down to the water that is accessible next to the dog park. 95% of people pick up after their pets there's the occasional people who don't but usually someone will clean it up when they get there before they let their dogs loose. I feel like some of the aggressive dogs are being brought there just to run out and play ball and they mostly leave when you get there. My little neutered male pug loves to run around and pee everywhere to mark over all the other dog smells. I find it safer than walking my dog around the neighborhood with cars coming in and out. I enjoy this park very much and the people so far that I've met.

This park was where I spent a lot of time when I was growing up. I have not been back to the park…read morein years, so I did not know what to expect. It was beautiful. Still a small dirt road leading to the park, and the sound of the stream as soon as you get out of the car. I rock jumped out to the big rock in the center of the stream that was my favorite spot. Very relaxing and peaceful place, and I can not wait to go back. I showed my beautiful wife this place so special to my heart, and she loved it.

Next to the park is a museum abouf the history of the old Welsh and African-American iron miners in the area, located in an old school which DuPont built for local African-American miner families. Our GPS did a good job taking us to the parking lot, but there were some parts where I wondered if we were even on a public road. It was worth it. There's a bird watching trail and a hiking trail. A few people were gearing up to go mountain biking. I don't know if I'd risk it, I'm not a big daredevil and the trail looked steep. My husband and I only wandered around for a little bit, because we had other engagements, but I'd love to come back in the fall. I'm sure the changing leaves are magnificent. Otherwise, it was just really nice to look at all of the birds. On the bird watching trail, there were some bees too, which is always nice to see.
