The service was good, although the waitress did have a hard time understanding us, and the food arrived quickly and seemed fresh, though it was quiet at the time. I ordered the mushroom tagliatelle and my friend a tomato and mince version and they were both delicious with a decent portion size. However I thought drinks were a bit on the pricey side at almost £6 for a single mixer but the wines seemed much more reasonable upon checking the menu. I think I might start frequenting this place a bit more when I have that Italian food craving, as it certainly hits the mark, and is conveniently located being right in the middle of Peckham.

I liked the olives, but was less keen on the sardinian bread (go for normal bread instead, you won't regret it). The staff were super friendly, without being invasive. I felt very comfortable here and felt we were looked after really well. You can book beforehand, but we chanced it and got a table without too much trouble. As a kid I loved it for things like pesto, which seemed wildly exotic. Now, though, I know I can make a pretty good pasta dish at home with the help of Mr Sacla, and am loathe to choose a pasta place for a night out - although Italian places do offer the best desserts, so sometimes it's worth it if I'm feeling extra greedy. The thng that really lets Bagatti's down, in my opinion, is that it's such a big, hard space, and there is nothing - no soft furnishings or anything - to absorb the noise. This can make the atmosphere a bit jarring, not helped by the tables being crammed in so close together.

Being italian myself I always find italian restaurants have the most friendly staff who always try their hardest to ensure your dining experience is the best it can be...this place had the opposite effect on me. Our starters came and we had no knifes, it took too long to get a staff members attention that we gave up and just ended up cutting our starters with the fork. My boyfriend ordered another beer and it was just slammed on the table and the waiter walked off without asking if the rest of us were happy or needed anymore drinks, we then had to try and get another waiters attention again to order more drinks. The bread was sliced so thinly you barely got a mouthful and the olives tasted curiously medicinal. I had a very mediocre and lukewarm veal dish with salad overpowered by balsamic vinegar. The French fries were fresh. The children enjoyed their fried chicken and chips. The three wait staff were very inattentive and we almost had to shout to get one them to come to the table. We must have been grumbling because one of them eventually hovered over the table and then committed the cardinal sin of trying to join in on our private conversation! I've been to Latium twice, 2 months apart, and unfortunately the 1st visit was significantly better…read morethan the second visit. My first visit comprised of having a fragrant tuna tartare as a starter, roast duck that comes with a decent gravy as the main and the pear and almond tarte with vanilla ice cream as a substantial dessert. The meal was then followed by complementary petit fours, which were a pleasant selection of sweet bites per person. This visit was during the middle of the week on a weekday for dinner, perhaps that contributed to the different experience. The set menu had also changed by my second visit. My second visit was on a Saturday for lunch. I had roasted veal for a starter, roasted pork for the main and a few scoops of sorbet for dessert. Whilst this was still a nice meal, the portions felt somewhat on the smaller side and the ice cream had chunks of ice in it. Furthermore no petit fours were provided.  Therefore Latium seems like a amiable choice to have, a convenient short walk away from busy oxford street but is a bit hit and miss with its overall outcome. Perhaps a better choice for a light hearted meal than for a remarkable dining experience.

The grillman in me marveled at the nice hex patterned grill marks on the huge piece of fish she got. It was quite good, and clearly well executed.
