Having an Italian greyhound means ALOT of money goes in to weird niche dog things the breed needs, one of which is a special tooth gel. Long story short I saved myself a good thirty dollars because this store is the only one in Adelaide that randomly carries it so five stars for getting in super niche things essential to particular breeds. But what REALLY impressed me was the knowledge the staff had, they let us know about the puppy school they host which was under $100 for five classes (something most other dog stores don't do), gave me loads of tips about introducing my two dogs, tips about the breed and best yet they didn't pressure me to buy any dumb little add-ons at the counter (because like all pet owners we spend our rent money on stacks of dog toys as it is). Even if it is a scaley one that likes to eat live rodents (don't we all), you will find all that you need to keep them healthy and entertained at Petstock on Main North Road. I am an animal person, in fact many have referred to me as an animal myself (Like a TIGER, rrrrooooowl!). As I write this yelp one of my Cats (Samurai) is actually dribbling on my leg, an yet I don't throw him across the room yelling 'fly supercat', that is just how much of an animal guy I am! I often drop in to Petstock on the way home to pick up some stupidly expensive (but scientifically formulated) cat food and also to tap on the many fish tanks! It is a huge store, encompassing everything from food, toys, living quarters (doghouses) and many things that you look at and think "who the hell would buy that for their pet....it would look great on me!" The employees are all very knowledgeable and pet lovers themselves, so they are quite able to help make decisions on what is best for your little fido, nemo or Rum Tum Tugga. Dogs who do not wish to spend day in and day out sitting around the home with nothing to do. They require companionship and another bottom to sniff besides their own. If you have a dog who doesn't like to be left home, this day care facility for dogs is really very good. It gives your canine friend a pack to run and play with as well as a present and accountable human being who acts as the top dog for the whole time your pooch is placed here. This top dog human means no fights break out because there is always a masterful guiding voice keeping tabs on who is doing what to whom. It really is a great service if you don't want to leave the dog home every day but have a busy life and can not find the time to keep your precious pooch as pampered and busy as yourself. Let's say you own a big dog that needs a lot of exercise, but you also have a demanding job that sees you at work almost twenty four seven some times. What happens to the dog? Well it may get bored and start to behave badly as a result - but if you drop it off at Dogcity Daycare it will be busy socialising with other dogs. You can purchase a range of items for your dog when you drop them off or pick them up from their day of socialising and stimulating interplay - things like chews and pigs ears... and the friendly staff will let you know if your best friend has behaved well - which of course under the circumstances he or she probably has. And the experience I had was amazing! Dropping Harold off to the care of strangers is a little nerve-racking as Bulldogs have special needs, however the friendly team at Dogcity let me know that he was in safe hands and that I would receive updates during the day, reassured, I left feeling confidant Harold was going to have a great day! The energy and excitement in the centre was amazing, you could really tell that these people love what they do. Before I left for work, I had a look through the viewing window and Harold was already running a muck with his new friends. The thing that took this experience from good to brilliant, was the level of personalised communication I received. During the day, "Harold" sent me a text message with some photos of his new friends (who knew dogs had such skills!): Hi Mum, My new friends have let me borrow the work phone so that I could send you a message; I told them that I'm fine and would rather keep playing, but they've said that it's always important to let Mum's know. Apparently you guys worry about us or something. I'm having the best time. Heston is here and we've both been body slamming. They have a bunch of tennis balls here too, so I've been slobbering over all of those and carrying them around. There are two Huskies, Ace and TJ, who like playing with tennis balls also, so we've been having a great time together. I hope you're having a good day, but I doubt it's as fun as mine - ha! Then as you entered the pet store sometimes your were disappointed to find that the only pets in the store were fish, and possibly birds. This store is like that. There are no puppies, no kittens, not guinea pigs but there are fish. However positively, if you like fish, this is your store. Gold fish galore. Also considering that I have been told to never buy a decent sized pet from a pet shop, eg.dog, I guess this further supports the fact that in truth, this store is quite nice :)

You can't miss this shop as you walk along the Broadway as it is a bright lime green colour. In keeping with this theme, the staff are decked out in lime green polos and caps giving the shop a pleasant clean, modern feel. They specialise in gourmet foods for dogs and they cook home made casseroles for pampered pooches daily. Scruffies also has a good range of pre-packaged food, treats and accessories.

Scruffies food doesn't have that smell...it smells like fresh food always. All the ingredients in their food looks fresh & appetizing. Other places use garlic to mask odour of their not-so fresh produce, but it still stinks. Scruffies also use garlic, but their food still smells fantastic. All my pets LOVE Scruffies food. Pets Everywhere used to be called Northside Pets, so I'm not sure if it was a management change or…read morewhat but essentially it's got the same stock with not much change. They have exotic pets like snakes, lizards and other reptiles and also spiders - eek! I will not be anywhere near those things and it's a good thing they dont' sell Mortein as I'd be armed and dangerous with a can. It's a big shops and there's alot of pet stock under the roof with equipment, food, supplies and all sorts of weird pets and the norm and nfortunately they do sell kittens. But there are other furry creatures like rabbits and guinea pigs and if you don't want to get that close there's always fish.

This pet shop keeps birds in a way that isn't good for their health and welfare…read more I visited this shop about 3 weeks ago and there is a room where they keep the birds for sale. The room's cold, has a concrete floor and no natural light. Birds need natural full spectrum light in order for their bodies to make vitamin D and enable them to have the correct sleeping patterns. They should at least have full spectrum light bulbs. The room has parrots in triple-decker cages. The birds in the top and middle cages get artificial light, but the parrots in the lowest cages are living in deep shadow and it's distressing to see how these birds cope with this. The one sole occupant in the lowest cage has no tail feathers left and is continually climbing to reach the upper corners of its cage to try to access some of the light - anyone can see this is an anxious and unhappy bird. The room also contains box cages full of about 30 - 40 finches. The owners have only been bothered putting up the one perch for this many finches in a single cage. Every centimetre of this perch is used by the finches; when one bird moves they're all forced to move. The rest of the birds have to sit on the ground and would also have to roost on the ground at night. This is bad for their feet - birds need to be able to perch, especially at night when they roost. They're also forced to spend extended periods of time overnight on a floor full of bird droppings, obviously not good for their health. On a closer look at the cage there is a bracket to support a second perch. These people have clearly just been too lazy to bother putting in a second perch for such a high number of these birds. A friend told me he'd gone in there once and saw a pair of very young budgie chicks just sitting in the corner on the floor. They were clearly too young to have been taken from the nest but here were these people putting them into this cage without even adequate perching and trying to sell them before they were properly ready to leave the nest. The way the owners keep these birds shows no regard for their welfare and these people are denying these birds' the opportunity to engage in essential natural behaviors like accessing enough light, the ability to perch and the ability to avoid having to sit in bird droppings. Not good at all.

Out of all the aquarium shops in Adelaide that I've visited (and I think I've been to them all by…read morenow) this would be my first stop if I could only go to one. Without a shadow of a doubt they have the biggest range of fish, and by far the deepest range of exotic species. There are shops that have cheaper fish, bigger fish, rarer fish, harder to find plants, or a bigger range of cichlids, or marine exotics - but for all round range, Seaview has it hands down. It's also a huge store - lots of tanks to choose from, accessories, pumps, decorations, rocks & logs - you name it, it's here. Again, there ARE bigger stores - but the range here has everything I could think of needing all contained in one store. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. It can get busy, and I've stood in a frustratingly slow queue on a Saturday - but that's understandable given they need to communicate with a lot of customers over the suitability of fish for their needs, that they understand the care needed for certain species, etc. Parking is best off the Anzac Highway - I've seen far too many wing mirrors whipped off cars parked here while people shop for fish.

A BIG SHOP FULL OF FISH (and other aquatic creatures)…read more I've been coming to Seaview Aquarium for a long time. I actually bought my turtle "Fred" here when he was the size of 50c piece. Now he's the size of a large dinner plate. Along with 2 tanks, and a whole school of fish... this place loves taking my money :) I've tried many other fish / aquarium shops in Adelaide but this really is your one stop shop for all fish, turtle, frog and marine plant supplies, they also have a large range of tanks and ponds. It is easily the best aquarium shop in Adelaide. It does however get a little busy on weekends, so prepare for a wait while you get served, but there is a lot of cool marine displays to look at while you wait. Check out the shark tank very cool, or my Bumblebee Cichlid who now lives in the large Cichlid tank out back, he got way to big for my 6 ft tank and started picking on all the others. :( Prices are reasonable, and the staff are usually friendly... If you love spending endless amounts of cash on your marine critters, then this is the place to go. :)
