My coworker and I just went to Petco to see a precious little black kitten named Little Beans with serious consideration of adopting her. We asked the cashier if we could please see the kitten to see how she responded to us. We waited in the cat room for a minute and Amanda came in. She was obviously irritated and asked what we needed. We asked to get the kitten out so we can engage with her for a moment. Amanda rudely asked if we put in an application and been approved. We said no and that we just wanted to see how the kitten engaged with us and how she looked before paying the fees and such. She said with even more irritation that she wouldn't open up the cage without an approved application. So we left! No wonder these poor animals sit in these places for as long as they do! Amanda needs to take some customer service training and I pray she isn't a manager. I can't imagine how she would treat her employees... read more

The grooming people were a bit stiff on rules. While I liked that our dogs acted like they were kids in Toys R Us, the things here are a bit marked up compared to other places. A nice, big store though. read more

I have been taking my female Boxer, Lady, to be groomed at Petco for a year or so. All the groomers that have groomed Lady are excellent! I've never had any problems or issues with them. I came here with my Pomeranian poodle to get some affordable vaccines and to my dismay, staff was not very helpful and appeared to be in a rush. I would like to stress that specifically the doctor was rushing when conducting the vaccine. She then abruptly yelled at her staff in from of her clients and this really caused my poodle to be uneasy throughout the whole process. This doctor was unprofessional, rude, and caused our experience to be disappointing. read more

My Petco rewards was drained by someone at this store. I don't know if it was a cashier or just someone guessing my phone number randomly but I live in Georgia and have a Tampa,FL number so I suspect it was an employee. I called the company and they gave me a one time gift of my points back. If it happens again, I will be calling the store. So annoying. read more

Not sure I'll ever come back here for any kind of grooming service. I expected the "groomer" to be half way knowledgeable when trimming nails. I discussed about using a dremmel. I know my dog. But she seemed like she didn't even care. Then she banged on the glass and asked for help said she was going to bite. Interestingly enough, my dog has never bitten anyone before or been "bitey" when having her nails trimmed. She is however vocal because she doesn't like her feet touched. Clearly they are not knowledgeable. Will go to a veterinary practice from here on out for sure. A waste of time and money and now my dog is stressed. read more

Altering my earlier review. Terrible customer service! Had the cashier call twice for help with fish, no one ever showed up. Not the first time I've had trouble finding an employee to help with purchases. You walk through the store and there's not an employee in sight - they're either seriously understaffed, or the employees just hide so they don't have to do customer service. read more

We went into to buy a hamster. We waited forever to get help. Finally the manager adam decided to grace us with his presence. My daughter being a typical 10 year old couldn't make her mind on which hamster she wanted. The more she changed her mind the more Adams attitude worsen. He was literally huffing and puffing by the end of the ordeal. It went from $100.00 plus dollar sale to the $22.99 cost of the hamster. We got back in the car and went across the street to petsmart and bought $75.00 worth of hamster accessories there! If I could have put zero stars I would have!!! read more

I was in this store a few days before Christmas. One of their beautiful little fancy rats for sale looked like it was in respiratory distress (respiratory infection is one of the most common causes of death in young rats.) I approached a man I was told was the manager, named Adam, and told him that one of their rats looked sick. I don't buy live animals from pet stores, and was just in there to get a new collar for my dog. However, I am an experienced rat owner, and willing to rescue rats in need, and told him I'd be happy to take the rat and see that it got veterinary care and give it a good home. He basically told me that they don't adopt out many rats for pets, but mainly sell them for snake food. I said that I hoped the store employees promoted the feeding of frozen rodents to snakes, which is somewhat more humane than feeding them, terrified, to a snake to be eaten alive slowly. He replied that some snakes won't eat frozen, that he had one that won't, and I realized this was something the two of us did not need to discuss as we each had our own well-established opinions. So... I re-stated that I'd be willing to take their sick rat and pay for its veterinary care (which would cost much more than what they were selling the rat for) and would be glad to do this anytime they had a sick or unwanted rat. He basically shrugged and dismissed me. As he turned away, I said 'Don't you want to get my name and number, or anything? He said, 'No, just check back once in a while.' It was plain that he viewed live rats, which are loving, intelligent, and affectionate companion animals as nothing more than snake food and not worth the effort of saving, even when it could be done at no cost to the store. As far as I know, he never checked on the rat, and acted like he couldn't care less that it was possibly suffering because it was slated for death as snake food anyway. I'm not saying he's evil, but that he is certainly less enlightened and compassionate than I would wish the manager of a pet store to be. I really wish Petco would give more attention to the humane treatment of its live merchandise. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I've been in the salt water fish hobby for roughly 20 years and living in north Louisiana, gave few options for buying livestock. Although nothing I ever got from here came without problems. Fish died within a week, corals weren't even worth the price they ask for, and they mixed species that have no business being together. The manager, Scott was extremely unknowledgeable and condescending, in fact the only worker who seemed to have any clue on saltwater was Christa. Problems don't stop there. The chameleons were housed very poorly. No constant drip for water, humidity in the "desert" range on the hydrometer, and dead meal worms in the food dishes. If you have any knowledge about these animals, you know why this is bad. Go for supplies, but don't buy any live animals if you expect lifelong pets. read more
