Worst experience ever! Holly the groomer completely left our puppy almost bald. I was shocked when I picked him up! My daughter was in tears, our pup was unrecognizable! Our pup was a little matted so we paid for upgraded shampoo and conditioner and still Holly almost bald our poor pup! We paid $101 for a clipper cut! The entire night our pup was shivering! I was a first time Guinea pig owner, someone very knowledgeable at the store told me that they're social, which is true. So, I bought a second pig. I went back to get him a friend, who got really fat, really quickly. Turned out, he was a she, and gave me three beautiful babies. Now I have three male babies and I'm an expert on gender. I took my 9 month old standard poodle to be groomed here in May, and there is a reason I'm haven't written a review until now, I was giving Petco a chance to make things right with our dog and our family. We asked for a simple cut, no fancy poodle shaping. About two hours later I pick up a dog I do not recognize--he is crying, cowering, can't sit still, can't sit down. He was traumatized, but the full extent of his injuries are well documented by his vet. They pulled his ear hair (which did not need to be done) resulting in open sores, they burned him in multiple places with the razor, most notably on his testes and the space between to his anus. He was in pain, required ear drops, ointments, gabapentin for his pain, and antibiotic for the infected sores. He was not the same dog for months. How they held him down to do this to him I cant imagine, he was 24" at the shoulder and weighed 50lbs at the time. He was miserable, he was hurt, it was a traumatic and maiming experience. We reached out to Petco. They reimbursed his grooming (aka the cause of his pain and suffering), and we were told to send an email with vet bills and report, we sent videos of our poor pup, we explained the situation. And then...crickets. We heard nothing from the manager. A month later we called, no call back. Again we called and were told that corporate decided there was nothing they could do about our hundreds of dollars in vet bills along with pain and suffering. If you care about your pet do not allow them to be abused by the staff at Petco in Torrington. I may post photos, but they are pretty graphic. read more

It really blows my mind that the reviews do not reflect how great the staff is at this store. They are all super caring and knowledgeable. Holly (grooming) and Stan (general) are only two of the incredible team members that stand out but that's only because I'm less familiar with some of the other staff. You can't go wrong if you ask you will receive. The other reviews make me think that people forget that they get back back what they give but that's just my two cents worth...treat people (and animals) how you would like to be treated and you'll get what you give. f. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could, I scheduled a grooming appointment for my dog and they call me 20 minutes before the appointment time to say the groomer went home and tried to reschedule. When I booked the appointment it was changed from a different groomer initially and there were 9 separate appointment times in the same day, so you're telling me no one was available to fill that slot? We're traveling and can't change it to a different day, hence why I put it for the time I did. I'd recommend anywhere else. read more

*Review is on the store, I've never used the grooming services* This store is always clean, which is pretty impressive considering all of the excited dogs who wander in and out of it with their humans all day. Their toy selection is pretty decent for dogs, and they have some cute clothing :) They seem to run smaller than Target in terms of dog clothing, which is a shame because my poor pup can't fit into some of their items. The fish, birds, creepy scaly creatures, and small furry creatures all seem to have clean habitats and to be well fed. My own criticism on the layout is when the sun sets, it's blinding to look out the windows. I think that may be why the hamsters overturned all their bed to create more intense shelters than they already had. Cheers to the cashiers who are able to work through that time without hiding under the desk! I wouldn't be as strong. read more

On the most recent visit to the groomer I was told that my dog was ready bit that they were not able to cut his nails. He wouldn't let her touch his feet. We have taken him there several times. He does not like the dryer, yes ok. He can be stubborn. Again, yes. He is a chocolate lab and Chesapeake Bay retriever. They are known for this. Tonight was a surprise. When he was dropped off they "tested" him. They were able to touch his ears, mouth, and paws. He was getting belly rubs. During his service his teeth were brushed as well. When our surprise was expressed, the very rude groomer, says to us "Well, I wouldn't lie about that." What? That is the response you give? Needless to say we will not be going back there. They say dogs know...maybe mine sensed something and what right. I would not give a star at all but in order to post you have to. read more

Bought a few fish for my 15 gallon tank yesterday, everything was good until I got home. One of the five fish I got sank to the bottom of the tank as soon as I put them in the tank after acclimating them. He was trying to swim but going nowhere just stuck on the bottom I knew he wouldn't make it until the morning which was correct this morning he was deceased in the tank...Petco should do better with their fish with constant maintenance to the tanks and cleaning everything thoroughly which is obviously not done since I counted 20+ dead fish in various different tanks. It's just sad seeing the conditions of some of the fish that live. Disappointed with Petco to be honest, have better standards read more

I had the best experience here with groomer Morgan! She was so gracious and gentle with my dog. He's a rescue and can be difficult and she handled him like an absolute pro and gave him the best haircut he's had in a while. This is 45 minutes from my house and I will DEFINITELY be going back! read more

Came in bought my bearded dragon Aireaze and a spotted gecko which we named posidon for my boyfriend. We're extremely happy we had so many questions and the employee was pleasant and happy to help us. My niece even got a teddy bear hamster that she named bear. We will be back. read more

LIARS........ I was very unhappy with my visit to the groomers. My dog was supposed to get bath,ears and nails but they didn't do her nails. The groomer claimed my dog was fine and there were no issues with the services but when I got home I noticed her nails weren't cut. This was the main reason for the visit so when I was lied to I was extremely angry I was refunded my money for the nails. Point being PLEASE Check your fur babies after a visit here and make sure you're getting what you've paid for since they didn't inform me about not clipping her nails but still charged me for it I GIVE THEM NO STARS BUT THAT WASN'T AN OPTION read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. I purchased 6 neons. I got the fish home got them adjusted to my tank and then put them in it. About three weeks later I noticed my tank had a ton of Ick. I have been treating my tank for the past week now and have lost a lot of fish. Two of my Cherry Barbs, 4 of my rummy noses, and 3 of my neons I purchased. My husband and our 3 dogs have recently moved to Torrington CT. We had planned to just stick with our normal groomer a half an hour away but after a visit to the store before making an appointment we decided to give it a shot. We made an appointment with Heather, whom we had spoken to on our initial visit. We brought our 11 year old yorkie in for a haircut. We brought her in at 5:30 and after shopping at Walmart for an hour she was ready! Heather was very professional and did a wonderful job on our little girl. We plan to bring our two other girls here. Came here about 7 years ago to buy a kitten, I fell in love with the first one I saw and we had an instant bond, I took him home and we connected immediately, for some reason he would always reject the cat food I was buying him and was not using the litter box, but that was his personality, stubborn!! Anyway a few months ago I realized he wasn't walking right so I took him to the vet only to find out this wasn't a cat at all but a full grown African male ostrich! You can imagine I was pretty surprised, you think you know a guy! between the international authorities and Petco staff it was dealt with very professionally and I couldn't be happier with my new cat. read more

I checked Petco clinics. On my phone it didn't state that my pet needed an appointment. One didn't use to need an appointment. It is very difficult to put my cat in his carrier. He always scratches me. I went to Petco at the end of the day. The workers said I didn't have an appointment, so I couldn't see the veterinarian. They asked the vet to squeeze my cat in for a rabies shot. The vet (supposed animal lover) refused. They said that they had too many appointments. The person in front of me in line went in and there was no one behind me. Also, I would have waited until after the last patient. It would only take a minute to give the cat a shot. Now I have to wait more than a month to get an appointment and go through it all over again. They were unaccommodating and unapologetic. read more

Chain store groomers in general do not have a good reputation but at the Torrington Petco I have found the one groomer who has changed that image for me and her name is Vicki. She is just what my pups needed in a groomer. Vicki knows her way around dogs and is an experienced breeder, handler and knows the show ring well and the grooming needed while in the ring. But my pups are not show dogs, nor do they require the attention to detail she gives to her show dog clientele and her own champion pups. Mine are all special needs. I rescue the blind, deaf, handicapped, wheelchair-bound and epileptic pups and trust them all to Vicki for their grooming. Their comfort in the salon and their emotional status after leaving the salon is of utmost importance to me and with Vicki there is no worry and only happy visits to the salon. read more

Personification of customer service are Tory and Holly of the Torrington CT Petco. Holly guided me in picking out a harness, collar, and food for my small dog. While giving me a minute to mull over the choices, she also helped other customers. She always came back to check on me..never left me for more than a minute. I was very grateful to have her input, especially concerning the food. My fortune continued at checkout, when Tory spotted that I had a pamphlet containing coupons--saved $13.00 for me! I have nothing but good things to say about the staff here. Being 1st time dog owners, we have lots questions that the staff can always answer any time. The service is always incredible both in store and in the salon. The girls all love my dogs, the dog trainer helped us with harnesses for them as well as food suggestions when we first got them!! read more

This may be a confusing review. I hope a manager is reading these. The staff is very friendly and helpful. One thing you do not need is the cashier yelling almost at the top of her voice "hello! Welcome to petco!" I'm sure this is not the employee making the decision to do this but management I would assume. I have gone there 2 days in a row and this happened both days, while the cashier was helping someone. This is totally unnecessary. read more
