Plenty for children, women, and men. The fitting rooms were clean and again Abbas was very attentive and efficient with hanging up clothes and bringing us different selections. The store is a quick 10 minute walk to the train station, making it an easy location to use public transportation. There was an issue with the credit card machine at first , but after unplugging it we were able to charge our purchases with no problem. Great store and customer service. I've spend a bit of time in Peru so was instantly drawn to her stall for nostalgia's sake initially but then I saw, and more importantly felt, the fine fabrics of the Alpa clothes. The most sweet and simple little girl's alpaca top was too much to resist until I saw the organic cotton crochet dresses for women (and then I completely forgot about my daughter's upcoming 1st birthday and the alpaca top I could buy her as a gift). The material was so soft I tried two dresses on there and then and subsequently bought one. $60 is an outstanding price for an organic dress of this quality. Quite the greeny myself I enjoyed talking to Esly and hearing about her journey of discovering the debilitating impact the textile industry has had on our environment. Environmentalism is a relatively new concept for many South American's who have seen nature as a way out of economic slump but there are a lot of young people like Esly who are working at contributing to trade with eco credentials in check. Alpa clothing also do jumpers, cardigans, scarves, slippers, singlets, men's clothing and hand made jewellery. Keep an eye on their website for their retail store opening soon.

The shop has a great range of stylish leather business shoes, but as I do not work in an office or attend a lot of funerals, nor am I a hipster I don't really need business shoes. The sneakers and casual shoes are seriously funky though and there is a large broad range in styles. They also have gift boxed ties and cufflinks sets at three for $50, a great way to stock up on gifts. So today I have two new pairs of shoes which I did not need, but my feet are happy.

U Turn has a pretty wide selection, mostly colour coded and ranging from cute yellow sundresses to slime green sequined padded bras/tops with nipple tassles. Fact. The rack that hosted the mosted for me was lined with one piece swimsuits of all shapes and colours, from strapless leopard print to '90's padded checks, paisley flowing floral numbers and fluro striped black catsuits that I'm pretty sure I once owned. Most of these were priced around $25, and whilst the smell of chlorine that clung to them deterred me a little (on top of the facts that a) it's almost like buying second hand underwear and b) I daresay years of wear has led to severely see-through swimmers), I feel an imminent purchase in the not so distant future. I've found a few good buys from U Turn in the past and if you've got the time to look hard enough, you can often find something pretty nice for pretty cheap - the last dress I bought from here was only $30. They also have a small selection of slightly (read heavily) worn shoes and some stellar handbags. The staff here are occasionally willing to swing you a deal if you're spending a bit too. NB: Heaps cooler than the Rozelle U-Turn store.

But as I look through the racks in U Turn, I think to myself that I could probably find most of these clothes in St Vinnies for a fraction of the price. However if you don't want to treasure hunt in charity shops, U turn is a good option as you know they have selected pre loved clothes of existing quality so you can fast track your way to a retro look. U Turn obviously carefully select their stock, providing a mixed selection of 70's and 80's fashion. Lots of old jumpers, leather jackets and loud shirts. Their focus seems to be more towards women than men. Although I did find a hat I liked, I don't think I have enough hipster in me for U Turn to entice me to purchase, but based on the crowd in many Sydney clubs, they could be a goldmine for twenty something's in Sydney,

In business for over twenty years and being Australia's largest range of cowboy boots, Route 66 offers a seemingly endless collection of boots. They also sell a wide variety of 1950's inspired rockabilly, Americana clothing, hats, belts, sunglasses, handbags, lingerie and a selection of funky T-Shirts, my personal favourite being the "God Goo Muck" shirt. What excited me most in Route 66 was their range of kitschy, pop art junk, which I had to resist stocking up on, if you are in need of a Jimi Hendrix corpse in coffin (or the Ramones or Rolling Stones in a shared coffins), a paper mache skeleton a crucifix covered in guns and horseshoes knives and guns or other classic Christian kitsch. You can even find a Wacky Wobbler Rat Fink. I don't think I want to be a cowboy, well not this week anyway, but I did have fun at Route 66, it is a large and fun shop to wander around, the staff are friendly and they play a catchy mix of swinging country pop. Route 66 is definitely something different in Darlinghurst, even if it is not your style it is worth going for the experience.

Sick, I know. I was window-shopping along Crown one evening a while back and spotted my new loves in the window of Route 66: tall, grey boots with white cut out detailing and small red hearts decorating the top. I like to think the love at first sight was mutual, but I might be lying to myself. The very next day, I marched my little self in there to claim what was rightfully mine. And then BAM, I was hit with the truth. My lusty loves who had made so many sweet promises to me through the shop window the night before, were playing cold, hard games with me now. There's a difference between playing hard to get, and actually BEING hard to get. And at $425 for the pair, this was no game. So, what could I do? Deflated and heart broken, I cast one last glance at my beautiful boots and bee-lined it out of there. If the interaction were a Western quick draw, I definitely hadn't been victorious.

And…read morealthough the St Vincent De Paul Op Shop- henceforth to be known as Vinnies- on Hall St Bondi is not as thrifty as some it has plenty of opportunity to pick up some designer threads and wicked CDs. (I know, I'm sorry, that was a total Dad joke). You never know what you'll find at Op Shops of course and that's a big part of the fun, but there are certain locations that the elves that do the sorting send all the good stuff to (well that's my theory and I'm sticking to it!) and Hall St Vinnies is definitely one of them. They know their labels so you won't find a Dior scarf in the $2 bin. But you will have found a Dior scarf at an Op Shop for 20 bucks and all proceeds go to charity, so you still win! Having said that, I once found a pair of genuine Gucci shades there for $10 so you never know your luck. It's not all designer stuff though, they have the usual array of retro, average, hideous or trendy clothes mostly around the $7 - $12 mark and a decent collection of cool men's t-shirts. Hall St Vinnies also seems to have an unending supply of fantastic CDs and decent books, maybe due to the amount of backpackers that spend enough time in the area to build up a collection and then have to offload it all when they're heading home?
