I took my "self Employed " records into Mr. Holtz with everything itemized, listed and ready to do the percentages & e file. The person that had done ,my taxes for years was in the hospital and I had moved so I looked closer to home and found Holtz. After several months of them telling me that they were working on it,I asked where they were at that point, found out that their charge was unreal, since I had did all of the work with the exception of percentages and that I was going to owe more than I had ever owed before in 40 yrs, and they had not filed an extension, I asked for copies of everything that I had gave them found that my original tax lady was out of the hospital, took it all to her, she filed and extension immediately and had me e filed a week later. My charge from her was $250.00 and I owed IRS nothing. read more

This Company took over my previous CPA in Oakdale and it has been a nightmare. it has taken 3 months to get my taxes done and nobody can answer any question on my taxes. Now I have to pay another CPA to review them again because I don't think they are correct and nobody in the Oakdale office or any other office can seem to answer any of my questions. These people took over from my previous CPA. They are disorganized, no one knows what the other is doing. You go to the Oakdale office and you are referred to the Manteca or Sacramento office. The "tax preparer" calls with an unidentified number, doesn't leave a message, and if you do get ahold of anyone they have no idea how to help you and tell you to come back later. If you go into the office, the receptionist seems to think if she talks REALLY loud you can hear her better. If you go to these people, beware. It may take 4-6 weeks to have your taxes completed. And the answer most given is "I don't know" when you ask where the return is, even if they have called you to say the return is complete...beware you may get there and be told it's not in the computer yet and someone will call when it's ready. But! If you go in and get on them the return mysteriously appears. Good luck! read more

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO HERE!!!! This has been the worst experience we have ever had with a CPA. 30 years in business and we have NEVER had such a nightmare getting our taxes done correctly. We can not talk to Peter Holtz himself, he is NEVER available and our taxes have been circulated to several different people (overseas) who DO NOT know what they are doing. WE have had to tell them what forms to use and point out the continually numerous errors. Now we are going to have penalties and interest because they are not done and not correct. We have to take them elsewhere to help clean up the mess they have made. Take my advice and AVOID this CPA. You would be better off at H&R Block. read more

Stay Away! Peter and his non-CPA staff are incompetent and untrained. The accountants that were assigned to my business made a very large careless mistake. Peter tried to upsell me additional tax services that ended up having a ton of mistakes as well as was late. I ended up having to payback $7,000 in taxes because of this. When I asked to talk to Peter, they kept hanging up on me or lying that he wasn't in the office. I finally showed up to their office and Peter refused to go over the reason why I owed so much. I thought working with non-CPA accountants wouldn't be such a difference but the ones here know very little. Their tax professionals are not tax accountants by the way. They are the equivalent to the ones you encounter at H&R block that had 4 weeks of training. They don't know how to handle business taxes. I have learned my lesson. I went back to my usual CPA in modesto, where all the staff are licensed CPAs, even though the fee is slightly higher, at least they never caused such an expensive mistake. read more

I am at a loss for words as to where I can start this but I will try and make it short as possible.I switched my small Truck and Trailer Repair business to Holtz accounting 10 months ago and used their bookkeeping service for monthly bookkeeping,sales tax, payroll etc.. Lets get one thing straight Peter is a nice guy and he appears very well versed on the tax code but.....just because his name is on the building and the invoices doesn't mean he will oversee your account and make sure what his employee's are doing is correct as he has employee's for that also (maybe he does if you have a big business IDK but he did not on mine).Peter has a large staff of employees that service your account and the employees I worked with have been very unresponsive to emails,calls,and or texts and usually I have to contact them several times to even get a response and even then the follow through is horrible.I won't list every mistake and problem I had with their service as the review will be too long and unproductive. I will give one recent example of a large mistake.My bookkeeper after multiple emails finally responded to me with a sales tax amount due for the quarter of $1961.When I questioned the amount and asked how she came up with the number she replied that she would have to get back to me.Two days later she sent a spread sheet showing her calculations and I spotted the problem immediately but then asked her why she didn't just run a report in Xero and get the amount in a few minutes?She replied that that's how another bookkeeper told her how to do it.The supervisor got involved and I ended up paying $1030($931 less!!).Now as it turns out she must of submitted the first figure to the BOE as I got a notice for underpayment of taxes and a penalty.They did say they will straighten it out and I'm sure they will but this example shows how you need to pay attention to what is going on and not just blindly write checks they say are due. In summary I though I was paying an expert to keep my P&L up to date,manage my account and give me some guidance along the way and I was sadly disappointed.Peter is too busy managing his own business to worry about your small business.His employees know less then I do about accounting and made mistake after mistake.If you don't know what your numbers are or where things stand this firm will be perfect for you as you will never know the difference and its reasonably priced also but if you want a Professional CPA to guide you and help with your business I suggest looking for a smaller firm where the CPA actually works on your account and interacts with you via phone and email.His prices are probably too cheap for that to happen here but I didn't negotiate the price as that's what they offered. I am now in the process of moving my books back to QB from Xero and to a new CPA a process I hope none of you ever have to go through. read more
