We couldn't have asked for a better first child care experience for our son. As a working family, the accommodating hours made a huge difference in our daily routine, and when they introduced a lunch program, it took one more thing off our plates -- no more scrambling to pack food every morning. Parents Night Out quickly became a highlight once our child was old enough to take part, both for him and for us! Communication with individual teachers wasn't always perfect -- they're busy staying attentive to the kids, which is exactly where their focus should be -- but Ms. Julie, the director, was always there to step in. Any question or concern we had, she made sure it got resolved. A special shout out to Ms. Pat, Ms. Shelley, and Ms. Maricon, the leads for our child's rooms. They loved our child, and he loved them right back -- that kind of bond makes all the difference. More than anything, this place feels like a true community. Oh my goodness! My eldest went here 25 years ago and it was great! She learned how to read, write and do little reports, before she left for kindergarten. We have had the absolute BEST childcare experience at Peter Pan! The teachers are amazing and you can tell they truly care about the kids. They have such a positive energy and they make drop off and pick up so easy. My son had a tough time making the transition from in-home care to child care but Ms Shannon and Ms Maricon were amazingly helpful at easing him in and making him feel comfortable! My twins have been going to Peter Pan School in Mariner's Square for a year now. I stayed home with them for their first 2 1/2 years, so I was loathe to leave them at day care when I returned to work. Julie DeMauri, the director, was very informative, kind and helped me put my fears to rest. I interviewed 4 different day cares and felt that this one was the best for my children. Another great aspect of this school is that they open at 6:30 am - most other day care/pre-schools don't open until 7 or later. Also, once a month is "parents night out", where they will keep the kids until 9 pm...this has been a wonderful opportunity for my husband and I to be able to go out on a date. Awesome! My twins started in the 2 year old room and "graduated" to the 3 year old room. The school has helped them with potty training and I have been amazed at how their vocabulary has just exploded. I especially loved Ms. Pat and Ms. Savina in the 2 year old room, and Ms. Angel and Ms. Sonia in the 3 year old room. All four of these professionals are exceptional with children. I can feel good about going back to work because I know my children are well taken care of. I am very happy with the environment and curriculum at Peter Pan. read more

We love Peter Pan. Our son, now nearly 3.5 years old started out in the tadpole room at about 18 months. When he was an infant we took him to another daycare in Alameda that we never felt very comfortable with, but unfortunately they were the only school with an opening. Then I stayed home with him from 10 months until he entered Peter Pan. Needless to say it was tough for us. He was used to being with mommy. But, Peter Pan helped to ease the transition and ever since my son has loved going to school. In fact, he enjoys it so much that he runs from my husband and I when we come to pick him up in the afternoon saying "I want to stay and play." Now for the specifics. Getting in: Getting in can be tough because it is a popular school. My husband started calling when our son was born and it took us 18 months to get a spot. It is always hard to find a place that takes infants. Orientation: Peter Pan was the only school that I went to that did not have a problem with my staying and observing the school. In fact, we took a full two weeks to acclimate our son before we officially enrolled him. Each day I would take him in and observe the class. Every question I had was answered and everything was explained to me with no fuss. They even let me leave him during this period for short periods of time to see how he would do without mommy. It made me feel so at ease. After all, it was a long enough period for me to recognize how the system works without them putting on a show for me. Teachers/Director: Julie, the director, is amazing. She is as accommodating as anyone could be. She has always been kind and makes time to talk with you (and remembers every kid and parent name. It is amazing. The Teachers are similarly amazing. In the tadpole room, Ms Xuan "swan" was my son's favorite. She has a way with the little ones. In the Tiger room Ms. Pat, Ms. Navy, and Ms Muoi were all great. Now in the Tiger room it depends on the day as to whether Ms. Angel, Ms. Sonia or Ms. Helen is his favorite. Their hours are great, the price fair, they offer a one night a month parents' night out. I originally posted this review originally on Feb. 9. Yelp! flagged it claiming that it was fraudulent. I am a prior (2004-2007) and current (2008-now) parent at Peter Pan Daycare. When I was little, I had to do the daycare route because my mom was a single parent and my experience was outstanding - so I knew what I was looking for when it was time for my son, who was turning 2, to start daycare. I had received a recommendation from an acquaintance and checked out Peter Pan in Mariner Square Dr. It was then that I met the director, Julie DeMauri. After speaking with her for a while, I knew that this was where I would be sending my son. He started the program that December. A few years later, my daughter started at Peter Pan when she turned 2. She is currently in the Pre-K room. Peter Pan is awesome. All of the teachers are terrific with the kids. The head teachers are Miss Pat in the 2 (Tiger) room; Miss Angel in the 3 (Pony) room and Mr. Charlie in the Pre-K. The children adore all of their teachers - there are typically 3 in each room. The program fosters creative, academic, dexterity and social skills. By the time the kids are ready to enter Kindergarten they are more than ready. But the best thing of all is that I know they are in a place that they love being at. I know that when both of my children are adults, they will remember Peter Pan as fondly as I remember my daycare teachers. read more

I can't even begin to say how happy and fortunate my family feels that our son is at Peter Pan. It feels like winning the lottery when your kid gets in for good reason: 1. The teachers are truly caring about what your child is going through. My son started when he was almost 14 months old in the Tadpole Room. He was the ONLY baby in that room who wasn't walking yet. I was concerned he would get trampled by the "big kids" and Ms. Julie offered us the option to start in the Baby Room (and be the "big kid" there first). The Tadpole teachers were confident that he would be fine and would look out for him. We agreed and it worked out fantastically! Our son learned a lot by being the "small kid" and we believe his development significantly advanced as a result of being around the "big kids" and the nurturing of the teachers. 2. The teachers help out with transitions. When we got to Peter Pan, we had been trying to get our son off the pacifier. Within 2 weeks he was - thanks to the teachers who weaned him off in addition to what we were doing at home. Our son also wasn't a very good napper when he got to Peter Pan and I was concerned about how that would go. By the end of his first month, he was consistently napping at the set time at school and we kept that up at home. We just began potty training this weekend at home and feel confident Peter Pan will help the success continue when he returns to school next week! (DM me if you want to know how it went!) 3. The curriculum is excellent. Our son is now in the Tiger Room and his language, socialization, emotional IQ and physical abilities are right on target. I'm constantly amazed at what he has learned and how empowered he feels. He used to be a clingy kid who follow someone else's lead and now he is fiercely independent (in a good way). You may be reading this and taking it with a grain of salt because I am one data point. However, this is the true testament to Peter Pan: My son does NOT want to leave each day. We are the kid and Mom (sometimes Dad) who are usually the last one to leave the outer courtyard playground, even when the teachers have all gone home. I have to coerce him into the car and that to me, is a good problem to have - it tells me that my son loves being at Peter Pan! read more

My family & I moved from Nebraska to Alameda in the summer of 2008. Both my children had attended a center daycare in Nebraska that was considered to be very good. My kids started at Peter Pan that summer, and then my son moved on to first grade in the fall. My daughter is in her last year at Peter Pan, and they have done a wonderful job of preparing her for kindergarten. She has homework assignments every week teaching her to write upper & lower case letters and numbers. At age four, she could recognize numbers in the 20s-50s. She comes home each day telling me something she's learned at school, whether it's about the rain forest or historical people. She even recognizes Washington & Lincoln on paper money. Peter Pan's preparatory curriculum is wonderful. The teachers have been amazing as well. Julie DeMauri, the director, truly "gets" kids and understands how they think and what motivates their behavior. Julie and a number of the teachers have been with the school for many years, which is unusual in an industry that's known for high turnover. That itself speaks well of the school. I've been very pleased with the care and education both my kids have received at Peter Pan. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have one night a month be Parents Night Out! $20 to have your kids fed dinner & entertained from 6:00-9:00 and then waiting for you in their pajamas when you pick them up - you can't beat that! read more

My son was there for three years and my daughter was there for Pre-K. All the teachers there are so helpful and love each of the children there. They really work as a team, its not easy to care for all the children with that age. I have cousin who went to Peter Pan as well and now their full grown adults. Peter Pan has a long standing learning and care provider. It is one of the reasonable price that you get a lot of it. Hot meals and snacks included. I highly recommend this preschool. Peter Pan at Mariner's Square has been a wonderful daycare/school for both of my children. A year and a half ago we moved to Alameda and needed childcare/preschool immediately for my then 2 year old son and 4 year old daughter. We contacted 10 facilities in Alameda and most were either full or didn't even return our calls. The school director, Julie Demauri, responded quickly and gave us a tour of the school. There were no openings just then but with some creative work scheduling on my part and much help from Miss Julie, my kids were able to start within a few months. Needless to say, my children both love Peter Pan. My daughter only attended for 7 months because she "graduated" to kindergarten but I believe even the short time she spent there helped get her ready for the big K. The teachers are loving and thoughtful. There is excellent communication between staff and families regarding daily ups and downs that the kids go through. I particularly appreciate the structure of the day. There is a perfect mix of play and learning. Each month, an author and an artist are highlighted on the community bulletin boards and every day the kids learn more about that author or artist... with creative lessons planned by the various teachers. My son loves the "taste tests" in his Pony class where the kids get to sample several different foods and choose which one is their favorite....ie. green grapes vs. purple grapes or red apples vs green apples. This school has higher enrollment than most daycare/preschools but because of the class structure and design of the design of the building, the size feels perfect. The director, Ms. Julie (who amazingly knows every single child and every parent by name) has been at the school for 30 years and is the backbone of the program in my opinion. She is honest, helpful, knowledgeable, and truly loves her students. Overall, I can recommend Peter Pan without reservation. read more

Peter Pan was my three year old son's first taste of "big" school, and Miss Julie and all of the staff at the school helped make the transition easier, not only for our son, but for us- the nervous parents- as well. I have had one child go through Peter Pan and have another there now. I love this preschool. They are chill and professional and also keep it fun and child focussed. They go above and beyond with activities (especially in non-Covid times). They really care about every child. Ms. Julie, the Director, is amazing. I have two children enrolled at Peter Pan. Both started about 14 weeks old. We have been very happy with the quality of care at Peter Pan (Mariner's Square) and confident that our daughter is in a nurturing environment. She has been nurtured, held, cuddled & loved in the infant room. They are very conscientious about use of expressed milk & I've never felt like milk has been handled wrong or waster. It was difficult to leave her at first, but they had her in a routine and comfortable very quickly. She continued to thrive under the care of the infant care providers. Her transition to the 1-2 yr old room was very smooth. She was already familiar with the caregivers in that room, as the The caregivers have been great bonding with my daughter. She is excited to see them and now talks about them when she comes home in the evenings. They are part of the evening conversation & we are so appreciative of them all. Potty training went awesome with the center. She wasn't traumatized & did great under the guidance of the lead Tigers teacher. We weren't too concerned about getting her potty trained young, with a new baby and pending move. She took to it, thanks to the teachers there & is doing great. My second child is thriving at the school. We've been equally as pleased this time around. Additionally, the other parents are great. We have been to a few weekend functions (birthday parties, etc.) and enjoyed the company of other parents. There is plenty of diversity with students and staff. read more

We love Peter Pan for our 16 month old twins. They have been at Peter Pan since they were 10 months old and started off in the infant room. They have been in the baby room for about 4 months now, and we couldn't be happier. I love the activities they do with the kids. I've spent some time in the classroom observing circle time, outside play time, nap time, etc and have always been very impressed. I love when the boys bring home their art work and I can see what they have been learning at school. They both know what so many words mean, they are starting to know their colors, their shapes and they know 5 or 6 sign language words. My favorite is when I start singing songs to them- Twinkle, Twinkle, the Itsy Bitsy spider, etc and they know all the hand movements to the song. I can tell they are really learning and they have a very nurturing environment there. We decided to enroll our boys in Peter Pan after a nightmare nanny situation (caught her home with the boys drunk in the middle of the day) and I'm so happy we did. Julie deMauri, the director, is present every day and she knows what goes on in her preschool. I like the fact that there is an accountable person there at all times--- although the teachers are also so wonderful. The older kids also seem to love their school so much. I frequently hear them excitedly telling their parents about their day and Miss Julie says hi and bye to everyone who passes by her office by name. Check out Peter Pan Preschool at Mariner Square- you'll be glad you did. One last thing I love--- they post photos on Instagram each day of what the classrooms are doing. We've been very happy with Peter Pan for our 5 yr old and 3 yr old. Our kids love all the teachers there, and oftentimes don't want to leave at the end of the day despite having been there 8-10 hrs already. The facility has an amazing play area and the kids get plenty of exercise. The location's very convenient, hours are great, and snacks and meals are provided.
