My son got a concussion and my husband had an outpatient procedure within a year. I lost track of who needed to be paid what and when. If I could give zero stars, I would. Called a few times and no answer. When they finally answered, the person didn't even help, he just transferred me to Ken Fox. He speaks over you and wouldn't let you speak one word. He's extremely rude and unprofessional, and doesn't lose time to insult you and make derogatory comments about you just because a medical bill was sent to them without the hospital even sending a bill notice on time. Ken Fox was extremely utterly rude and unprofessional. He talked over me, he wouldn't listen to what I was saying. He he care less. My wife had an account sent to collections because a Hospital had recorded our home address incorrectly and we received no billing notifications. My account rep (Diane Rodgers) was very helpful throughout the entire process - we mostly struggled with the hospital billing agency, but once we were provided with the "debt expungement" letter, Diane was very prompt in getting the account removed from our credit. This was very important to us as we were attempting secure a loan for a home purchase. I must have called Diane 25+ times over the course of about 8 weeks, each time she was cordial, informative, and very helpful. read more

This is a really shady collections firm. They are not willing to negotiate, which I have never heard of in my life! They reported on my credit without contacting me, which is 100% illegal. I had gone to Dr. Lester last in September 2009. My insurance policy had $35 co-pays for office visits, and my financial responsibility should have ended there. I moved away from Boston, and now I'm back. I wanted to get in and see the doctor, since I had been here a few times before. I called up for an appointment yesterday, and I was told I had an outstanding balance of over $100! This is news to me. I have NEVER received any correspondence from the office after my visit. Then I am told that it was sent to a debt collector in 2010. I never received any communications from the debt collector. I'm a lawyer; I'm not an idiot, and I certainly pay attention to things like this. I pulled my credit yesterday, and they reported me! I have a perfect credit history going back 12 years (and I'm only 28). I have never missed a payment, been late, anything! Now, not only do I have a bill hanging over my head for which I don't owe (and they won't even settle), but my credit is suffering. THIS IS ILLEGAL; the law says you should be contacted before anything negative is posted to your credit, and I never received any communications from either the doctor or the debt collector. They claim my number was no longer good, which was true, but that's because I moved a YEAR after the office visit! My address had a forward for a year; I received every last bit of mail that was forwarded to me. You're telling me this mysteriously disappeared? To top it all off, Brookline Dermatology used the same deceptive practices on my friend's husband. Luckily, they said he only owed $40, not over $100, so he just paid the amount to not deal with it. ZERO STARS. I had a medical bill fall into collections with this company. First red flag was went they called me after 9pm which is illegal. I spoke with my account representative and she was nice enough. I set up a payment plan where my card would be charged every other WEDNESDAY. My account rep got on me for not returning the authorization paperwork fast enough but I did return it two days later. The account rep took it upon herself to charge my card on file when she was not authorized to. My payday is Wednesday, which is why I chose that day to be my payment day. My account rep has documentation on file FROM ME and she chose not to follow it; she told me she didn't even read it and "thought she remembered" hearing me say Tuesday. Mind you, that was three months ago. Supervisor Ken Fox was extremely rude and condescending and shaming. I truly feel bad for any person that must be in contact with him. No one at this company can do their job - they are constantly bouncing you back and forth when they don't know what to say and know they are wrong. I pointed out several illegal actions they have taken and he just talked over me and told me it's the nature of the game. Sorry, but NO. I did not think that I would have a pleasant experience with a collections agency but I had a very pleasant one here. The only person I dealt with was Kevin Michales so I can only testify about him. He was a very kind and extremely professional man. He knew his stuff and went above and beyond to help me. It was my fault that I had to do business with him in the first place so I'm not going to pull the "this is bullshit, why should I pay!" Crap. He was very helpful in resolving my issue and getting my finances back on track with what I had going on. The only issue I had is that I needed to send a fax to the office and the fax machine is busy 99% of the time and I was unable to send my fax to them no matter how many times I tried. They did let me come in person to drop off my paperwork and the secretaries in the office were very very kind and helpful to me. read more

Yesterday I downloaded credit karma to find out what my credit score was. I was surprised and a little bruised that a few of my careless mistakes had helped to lower my credit score. So today I went to work to clean it all up and bring my score back to where it belongs. I called PRA Collections and spoke with Steven to pay off a balance that had been reported to the credit bureaus. What a great experience! He was nice, calm, patient and even gave me a couple of tips to help with my credit score. I know I speak for most when I say that Debt collection agencies are not very well liked. We had an outstanding bill from a hospital that we didn't know about. Our medical bills are usually paid thru private insurance. It showed up as a collection on the credit report. It didn't have the company name on it but we goggled the address & called Peter Roberts & Associates. We talked to Ken Fox who was rude, condescending and just plain nasty. We wanted to pay the bill but he wouldn't send us an invoice or bill so we had proof of the debt and something to use as a receipt. Seems stupid to me. If you want us to pay the debt, then send us a bill. Pretty simple, at least in my mind. No reason for him to be nasty or rude. Just horrible. read more

Shady, shady, shady. I had a dentist send a collection to them - I didn't realize I had an outstanding balance. When I did, I paid them. By the time "Bob" from their office called, I had paid. I explained this to him and hung up. This was almost a year ago. Today, checked my credit report - and guess who shows up? A YEAR LATER. It is illegal to report to a credit agency without first confirming that the debt is outstanding. So I called over there, left a message - no call back (of course, they know they're not going to be able to get money). I called again today - they said "do you have proof you paid?" I said "can't you call your client and just confirm?" Their answer: we can send them a fax, and hopefully they respond... So much for being responsible. This is gross. read more

I received a bill that was a mistake as a result of the collection agent and called to clarify the letter. Instead of telling me what to do, he basically just told me to just pay and ignore the mistake. I recently found out that my insurance had an error in the spelling of my name. I also recently went through a high risk pregnancy which obviously gave me a pike if medical bills. The error in my name caused about 90% of my bills to get rejected. Anyways- my phone rang once from this agency and hung up no voicemail..I thought it was strange and searched the number and found the previous review. My immediate thought was it was a half ass way of logging an attempt at contacting me so they could report to a credit agency. I called and a man anwered...I explained the one ring and hang up and asked why that happened and he said with a slight laugh, "I couldn't tell ya" then looked up my account and said I had a balance. I explained the situation and told him I would give him my insurance info to contact them for payment , and he condescendingly said " Oh no, there is def an insurance payment" he sounded like a whiney 14 year old child trying to explain to his mom that he wasn't going to eat his vegetables. I said I didn't appreciate the way he was speaking and I would call back another time to speak with someone more professional and he said in a bratty huff (I pictured him stomping his feet and and balling his hands into fists , "oh yeah? Extremely unprofessional and downright shady business. I received multiple calls from this office, but never a voicemail (and they always called while I was at work and couldn't take the call). After over a month of this, I finally was able to pick up. They never gave their name, and when I told them I was unable to pay that amount at this time, they were unwilling to negotiate with me. They said to call back when I can pay the full amount and hung up. I never heard from them again (going on 3 months later) so I finally was able to convince my doctor's office to let me pay straight to them. Really awful business practices here. read more

Oddly enough I was shocked at my experience with a debt collection agency... the associate that helped me was kind and listened to what I had to say about the bill. he worked with me for about a month or two while I waited for my insurance to make a payment (which they finally did) and I then paid off the remaining balance. I only gave 4 stars because I ve only just started to work with them. And besides, no one is perfect. lol...Actually they did call me quite a few times to settle this debt. @2k,. I was warned that if it wasn't paid by a certain time it would go on my credit report. I recently contacted them because I thought it would of been paid off through another source. They understood, and arrangements were made. They will call me same time each month to make sure that it is ok for them to pull the money at the time we agreed upon.
