Why did we pick Allan? First, we loved his blended photographic style of 'lifestyle' and 'documentary'. It gave our pictures a candid and spontaneous "in the moment" perspective with an approachable and relaxed feel. Allan was responsive to all of our communications, very easy to work with, incredibly knowledgeable of the geographic area and actually recommended the spot we used for the wedding as well as for subsequent picture locations. He was friendly, prompt, flexible and affordable compared to others who wanted 2-3 times as much and whose pictures were not as good as Allan's. He wasn't the least expensive or the most, he was right on the money (pun kind of intended). He provided us with hundreds of final pictures (this was fantastic!), posted them on a web gallery and made the whole event very easy for us. And, captured it beautifully. I would highly recommend Allan to anyone wanting to capture an important event in a natural, lifestyle type format - he definitely has the eye and is a great person to work with!

They partner with Harvest Market next door to supply many of the fresh ingredients used in the meal, and the menu runs the gamut from fresh, handmade pasta to seasonal salads, homemade baguette, and more. We went to one of the dinners in November, and were delighted to get a generous amount of food, cocktails, and wine for the $70 ticket price. Dinner begins with cocktail hour, featuring a seasonal cocktail (we had a fantastic Aperol Spritz, my favorite), and a cheese and charcuterie board. Then, seated at communal tables, we were served a fabulous five course dinner beginning with an impossibly creamy butternut squash bisque perfect for the freezing fall evening, a seasonal fall salad with watermelon radish and parmesan, a light goat cheese coupole paired with the umami flavors of Hen of the Woods mushrooms, homemade ravioli filled with succulent pork, and rounding out with an airy and delicate tiramisu made with local Rhode Island purveyor Dave's Coffee. Poet Jay Primiano, opened the event. This is a terrific space with art work and great light, small enough for a poetry reading and large enough for art, or film. The readings themselves were wonderful and there were light refreshments. Glad to discover this new adddition to the arts scene in RI!

I've never bought a single piece of artwork in my life…read more Call me a boor, but I suppose I just never saw the point. But today, I am a proud owner of a small and humble piece of art. And for that, I have to thank Alexander "Sandy" Nesbitt. Nesbitt is a self-made photography entrepreneur working out of a small studio in Newport, Rhode Island. When you walk into his studio, you see the usual things you'd expect to see in a photography gallery: framed pictures hanging on the wall, canvas prints of boats in still water, collages. But as you delve deeper, it's hard to tell where the gallery ends and where the "lab" begins. He's been all over the world in his decades long photography career, but he's a Newport native and so he's transitioned into doing a lot more local work. I had the pleasure of chatting with him for a good hour and a half before I made my purchase. I really didn't think I would buy something, but at some point in the middle of our conversation, I knew I was going to walk out of there with something--I just didn't know what. In any case, he definitely made my experience worthwhile and I recommend that anyone in the Newport area pay him a visit.

My fiancée found a print that she loved but unfortunately they were out of it in the size she was looking for. Gigi (sp?) from the gallery told us that the owner, Alexander "Sandy" Nesbitt, was out at the Newport Folk Festival with many other pieces and that we should check back after the Festival to see if our piece was among those he took with him. We came back the next day, and a different woman (apologies for forgetting your name) kindly looked up our piece in the inventory and told us there was one left at 89 Thames Street (Sandy's main gallery). She was able to have us purchase it at Blink and have it put aside at the other studio. When we got to the studio the piece was nicely wrapped waiting for us, and we were able to have a great chat with Sandy about his art, the festival, and much more.

I wish more than anything that I didn't have to write this review, because that would mean I was…read morehappy with the only photos I'll ever have from my wedding. Sadly, I'm not. Leading up to the wedding, communication with Crissy was great. She was responsive, confident, and seemed to understand exactly what I wanted. I truly thought I was in good hands. The day started off fine, but that didn't last long. While taking bridesmaid photos, Crissy repeatedly referred to the group as "girls," even though one of my bridesmaids is a man. Each time she caught herself, she made a dramatic show of "correcting" it, turning what could've been a nonissue into an awkward moment several times. That tone set the stage for the rest of the day: unnecessary comments, poor professionalism, and a general lack of awareness. Family photos were a mess. Despite having a full list of shots, Crissy made no effort to organize them, leaving me, the bride, to track down and call out my own family members. Later, either she or her assistant (neither would own up to it) decided it was appropriate to tell one of my bridesmaids that she "made a funny face" during the ceremony. Completely uncalled for. During cocktail hour, my maid of honor had to come remind me to take more photos because Crissy apparently couldn't approach me herself and told my maid of honor something along the lines of not wanting to talk to me, maybe because organizing family photos left me in a bad mood. And when she decided she was done for the night? She just left. No goodbye, no check-in, nothing. Apparently she could not find me. Then came the "sneak peeks," which were anything but the exiting reminder of our big day that they should have been. My flowers, jewelry (yup that's supposed to be a pearl necklace believe it or not), and tattoos were warped beyond recognition from excessive blurring, and my face had been edited to the point that I didn't even look like myself. The details I spent months planning, gone. When I brought this up, Crissy immediately got defensive instead of acknowledging the obvious issues. That reaction pretty much sums up every interaction I've had with her since: defensive, dismissive, and never accountable. When I calmly told her I wanted to find a solution that worked for both of us, she accused me of threatening her. Let that sink in, a paying client expressing dissatisfaction was somehow a "threat." The immaturity and unprofessionalism she's shown in every post-wedding conversation have been astonishing. And if all that's not enough to make you reconsider, here's more: - Most photos were unevenly framed or crooked. - Basic editing errors everywhere, overexposure, blotchy grass left unedited, poor color grading. - Important moments were completely missed (thankfully our videographer was on the ball the whole night). The "photo booth" included in our package wasn't set up until 15 minutes before she left, resulting in zero usable photos of guests and fewer than 30 photos from the last hour of the night. So in conclusion, I absolutely wish I'd spent the extra $1,000 on a professional who knew what they were doing. Between the poor quality, the lack of professionalism, and the astonishingly childish behavior, hiring Crissy was my biggest wedding-day regrets. I'll cherish the memories, just not the photos.
