Ordered carrot salad, codfish and potato fritters, corn fritter, and scrambled eggs with mushrooms. Everything was very tasty. The chef knows just the right amount of salt to use. The eggs were perfectly soft scrambled with well cooked mushrooms. The corn fritter had an interesting, slightly vinegary tang. Very in expensive since we didn't each much. The staff was amazing, the food was really good. We sat outside while a live band was playing and it was just perfect. My husband got the Twist and Stout and I got the Somersby to drink. After dining at this restaurant's morning counterpart, my cousin and I decided to try this restaurant for dinner. At the recommendation of our fun and exciting waiter, Fabio, we ordered Pica-pau, breads, caldo verde- cabbage and potato soup, verde wine, and two desserts. The cabbage and potato soup is excellent. Perfectly Balanced, creamy and flavorful without being overwhelming. Had some oil on top which I loved. The bread is wonderful, particularly the Portuguese cornbread. The likes of which I haven't found anywhere since, and as a result will fantasize about forever. The pica-pau is popular here. It involves a flattened piece of steak, lightly salted, on fresh bread. There are two halves so I shared with my cousin. The green wine is yummy! Goes well with the soup! Port goes best with their desserts. We had the banoffee, served in small mason jar. It was good. Required an additional dessert. This is a lovely, intimate restaurant on a side street close to the castle. The staff members are friendly without the touting-for-business model many other venues in touristy areas ascribe to. I think this restaurant is a gem. The service was very slow. Had to remind her to bring my husbands beer. After my food came, they never brought my husbands. So we flagged down our waitress who told us "did I forget to tell you we are now out of that?" (They weren't out of it when we sat down 40 minutes earlier.) They then took a rush order of something else. After 25 minutes and everyone else being done we cancelled the order and asked for the check. THEN they arrived. (They we're very good, but the waitress attempted to excuse the time as they take that long to fry..uh uh). My husband says the chicken wings were very good. Extremely cute place. You can eat inside or outside with a nice breeze. The grilled sardines were tasty as an appetizer. They are big and you can order one per person. The cornmeal bread was tasty too,although I wished it was warm and with butter. The sea bass and codfish were seasoned well and delicious, but the best dishes were the Portuguese steak and the octopus which were cooked to perfection. The sangria was amazing!! I had an early dinner at Petisqueira Conquistador which is in a little street around the corner from Castelo Sao Jorge. It has views of the castle walls and tables outside under umbrellas, and as it was still quite warm I grabbed one of these. Ordered a Licor Beirao with ginger - a cocktail made with a herb, spice and caramel liquor called Beirao mixed with tonic, ginger syrup and fresh pieces of ginger. I think they forgot the tonic but actually this probably made the drink taste better, and definitely stronger! Thinking that maybe they'd misunderstood my order and just given me a shot of Beirao I ordered another one. They did. The cocktail was much more refreshing. To eat I ordered a couple of appetizers; sautéed shrimp with garlic, chili and lemon juice, and fresh sardines with escabeche purée which was made from garlic, carrot, olive oil and white wine. The sardines - two decent sized filets - were served on purée-smeared toast on a bed of diced black olives. The purée was quite strong, but so were the other ingredients so all the flavours were balanced and worked well together. An interesting dish and very tasty. The garlic prawns were also good. There were 10 in the serve but when the heads and tails were removed there wasn't a lot of meat. Still, reasonably generous for an entree. The sauce was quite spicy, but a little thin; some fresh bread to sop it up would have helped. Overall, a good meal. Located off a quiet side street and a small restaurant with only eight tables. Very friendly atmosphere and terrific service. We enjoyed wonderful wines, a gazpacho soup and a Caldo Verde soup. Best meal we've had on the Iberian Peninsula. Extremely kid friendly with a selection of breads, cheeses, charcuterie, french fries, and a variety of juices. The adults get garlic shrimp, pica-pau (steak & Portuguese sausage in garlic sauce.... so good), green bean tempura, and caldo verde. Wine was very reasonable and service was exceptionally friendly. The food here was amazing! We were on our way to Sao Jorge Castle. It was probably the best food we had so far in Lisbon & Sintra Portugal. We are visiting here from NYC with 2 kids 11&7. We had the gazpacho, the traditional soup, the garlic shrimp, the clams, the migas( only dish we didn't love) the Pica Pau( our daughter loved it), the tempura beans, fried cuttlefish, the hake salad, oysters and the pe de salsa for dessert! Amazing little restaurant in Alfama. They own two restaurants next door to each other with a shared outdoor space in front. The Petisqueira serves small tapas-style dishes and Conqvistador has larger entree versions of the same offerings. We came on a Sunday night and enjoyed live music next to a heater with plenty of blankets offered for the night chill. We had pickled carrots and olives in little jars, fresh bread, prawns, chicken wings, and the most amazing gazpacho I've ever had (and I'm not typically a soup person).
