Food hit the table about 20 minutes in, which was perfectly reasonable. My wife went with the steak, potatoes, eggs and sautéed vegetables. The steak was seasoned perfectly. I had the codfish with cornbread, sweet potatoes and spinach, a dish that is distinctly Portuguese and done really well here. This place was fantastic. We had a party of 10 consisting of some crying babies and toddlers, not the easiest to accommodate. The waitress was super attentive and we loved the food. We started with a bread basket, cheeses, olives and grilled cheese. Our party got the sea food medley, gazpacho soup, the duck, and the pork belly. Stumbled onto this place and I am glad we did. We started with cheese and fresh hot breads including corn bread. Assorted olives added to the start. We had red and white wines by the glass, sampling them until we hit on the right ones. Some of us had seafood stew and my only complaint was that it had more potatoes and less seafood than I would have preferred. But everything including the broth was very inviting. Then one of us had the cod, cornbread, and spinach, enjoying it very much. Two of us had hake, with thumbs up. One got the pork belly and loved it. Good sides including veggies. Two of us went with duck, and veggies, and I am ready to pronounce it the clear winner. Tender with an upfront taste leaving you hungry for more. No excuse not to eat well in Sintra. read more

This place overall is "ok". ** SUMMARY: Good comfort food in a cozy room off the beaten path in Sintra. I would come back here as long as it's not busy. Our bill came out to 67 euros for two people (2 tapas, 2 entrees, bottle of wine, bottle of water, one desert, bread). Debatable value. SKIP these: Sausage croquette (serviceable but forgettable); prawn curry (deep flavour profile but overpowered by salt); apple puff pastry (again, ok but forgettable) EAT these: stuffed mushrooms (best bite of the night), wine sauce pork tenderloins with rice. (Great portions, very tender, star of the dish was the rice - what? Rice was mixed with bacon, toasted hazelnuts and chestnuts, raisins and finished with a couple sprigs of rosemary). DRINKS: wine is reasonably price. Very extensive list. Worth exploring. SERVICE: tonight, it was poor. They were overwhelmed by a large table and essentially forgot about the other tables for half an hour. Did not take our orders until late, and left us mid order to service another table (seriously?). Bread came with no olive oil or butter - have to order that separately. The yelp reviews were really high and that's why we came, but my personal experience was just okay. This place has a cozy atmosphere and the food was okay, but a little too salty/bland for my taste. I ordered the garlic shrimp tapas, stuffed mushroom and the mushroom rice. Overall, the stuffed mushroom was my favourite but the other two dishes were very mediocre. The shrimp was recommended by a server, but it was too salty for our taste, and the mushroom rice was a play on risotto but was not creamy or cheesy, but more on the watery/bland side. This is right in the neighborhood of shops and restaurants in the square of Sintra. Most tourists come to this place because it is the center of it all. Here you will find both mediocre shops and foods or places to go to eat, including the high end, and trendy tourists spots. You just have to choose your liking and through it all, I think what your heart desires. I had so much fun here and did SO much walking that my heart kept speaking to me. This is the only one restaurant that had a big screen TV so, people were in and out because it is the "soccer" season. They love their soccer here and wear their favorites t-shirts and what not. They have a full bar here as well as great food. I really enjoyed my meal here. There is no need for extra condiments or salt in my foods. They are prepared with so much flavors and just hits the spot. Otherwise, if you love hot and spicy, just ask the guy and he will warn you to be extra careful with it. He wasn't joking. When he says it's flaming hot, take his words. The guy who serves here is very charismatic and so nice. Did I mention most people of Portugal are genuinely kind? They really are! Do try to speak Portuguese as much as you can, enjoy, otherwise, just say you speak English and they do speak very well here. Amazing roasted octopus!!! It was simply prepared and yet so scrumptious that it became one of the most unforgettable food I ate in Portugal! It was cooked to perfection, the octopus was soft and so flavorful that I would come back just for this dish alone! After exploring Sintra and forgetting to stop for lunch we found this small gem around 6pm. This spot is packed at meal times and a reservation is highly recommendable as I only notified about 10 tables or so. At the time we arrived only a tapas menu was available , which had a good selection so it did suffice. I had the house white and my husband had a beer ( the only one they serve ) , both were delicious. My house white was a tad sweet and a tad of sparkle which is right up my alley . For tapas we had the cod chickpea salad and tomato bread with sliced ham. I know Portugal is know for their cod but this was absolutely delicious and if I am not mistaken it had very few ingredients ( cod, chick peas, olive oil, onions, and parsley). So simple but divine . The tomato ham bread was delicious as well but the salad definitely stole the show. The bread was fresh, as has been my experience with all baked goods in Portugal. The tomato paste but good, nice spread of simple spices added. The ham was sliced earlier off a leg that was literally right behind me(covered of course). The service was friendly and accommodating to my family with a toddler in a wine and tapas bar and I can see why they are number one in Sintra. If their tapas are so extraordinary then I can only imagine their dinner will be exceptional as well. read more

We made reservations through our hotel a few hours before hand. The place was completely full by 8 PM. I would definitely recommend making reservations at this place if you're planning to go. The inside is very cute but the tables are squeezed in very close together. The waiter didn't smile but I think that's just how it is here because he was otherwise very nice. He stopped us from over ordering because are used to tapas in the US which are really just bite sized portions. He explained that the portions here for tapas are medium sized and almost close to a full appetizer. The soups were not good. The soup of the day was a vegetable soup that was very bland. The shrimp soup had delicious shrimp however the broth was very, very salty. We also ordered the shrimp in brandy sauce which again was very salty. The mushrooms on crusty bread (appetizer) had a great flavor but again was very salty. The bread had a delicious crust that was nice and crispy. We also got the fried mollusks which included octopus squid shrimp and another seafood item we couldn't identify. It was tasty but again the batter was very salty. I think this restaurant would be a lot better if they decreased the amount of salt in all of their dishes. We drank a huge bottle of water at the restaurant but I'm still really thirsty. The price was actually quite reasonable. This restaurant was recommended by someone at our hotel. There aren't many places open late for dinner so the options are pretty limited. Very convenient to a couple of guesthouses on the same street, one of which we were staying at. We got in there about 7:30pm on a Saturday evening and fortunately there were a few tables available without reservation. Once 8:30pm rolled around, they were completely packed. While many people go the tapa route here, we weren't a fan of the majority fried tapa options they had (I'm sure they were good though) and just stuck with the grilled squid with roasted potatoes and greens. Then we went with a couple of entrees for a party of 4: grilled pork tenderloins and mushroom risotto dish. The grilled pork loins were tender, well seasoned and flavored which probably had to do with being cooked/marinated in Madeira wine sauce, and accompanied with some greens and a bed of rice w/ dry fruits. This was the best cooked pork we had throughout our entire Portugal travels and one of two best places we had for any kind of grilled meats in general. The manager of the restaurant was very friendly and presented us with a variety of desserts to try which included a chocolate mousse & a warm baked apple puff pastry with a bed of vanilla ice cream sprinkled with cinnamon (heavy cream base). I feel like Sintra is a little town in Portugal that has French prices. This restaurant was okay but it wasn't worth the prices, like €14 for my salmon, which was served without the skin and seemed less fresh than most others I have had in Portugal. They also charged me €6.20 for the bean salad even though the menu says it is €3.90. They were out of the only two red wines that were less than €4 by the glass. The service was pretty lackadaisical and I had to keep getting up to ask for things or wave violently. Next time we will probably choose a guest house right near Incomum and eat there for every meal, or take an uber to Mar do Inferno. read more

Mariana, our server, was incredibly friendly and helpful on recommendations. I heard her talking with customers in 4 different languages over the course of the evening, so no need to be shy if you don't speak Portuguese. I had the shrimp curry, which seemed an odd dish to get in Portugal, but it was fantastic! My partner had the cod dish, which was also good. We also had appetizer and tart for dessert. We will definitely recommend this spot for dinner in Sintra! I don't post very often and I like to leave a positive review rather than a negative one. But this place left a bad taste and I hope my experience was a one off. We were so eager to try this place and researched fantastic places to eat. We arrive around 12:45pm and there were about 2-3 open tables that seated 4 (we had a party of 3). There was a large group so when the hostess/owner said it was an hour wait, I thought it was because of COVID precautions. We come back at 1:40pm to check the table and tummy's grumbling, we were ready. She had sat the open tables and every table was filled. She told us that she didn't have room and we should sit on the terrace if there's room. We were bummed but preferred sitting outside since it was a beautiful day. Get to the terrace and it was filled as well. Sighs, nonetheless, we were starving at this point and thoroughly disappointed. My husband and I were referred to this place by one of the locals after visiting the Palace and it was worth every second! Our waiter was amazing and made perfect wine selections. It was between lunch and dinner while we were there so it was quiet and the staff joked with us occasionally which was so enjoyable.
