This place was fantastic. We had a party of 10 consisting of some crying babies and toddlers, not the easiest to accommodate. The waitress was super attentive and we loved the food. We started with a bread basket, cheeses, olives and grilled cheese. Our party got the sea food medley, gazpacho soup, the duck, and the pork belly. The duck might be the best dish, i've had in portugal, very tender and cooked perfectly. It came with a potato mash and garlicky roasted vegetables. I also tried the pork belly with sausage bread pudding. Also very good.

Overall: A great option for a more intimate meal, focused on meat and fish dishes. The good: The tapas that we got were good, but porco preto that we got was fantastic. Tender, cooked to perfection, with a beautiful sauce and side of potatoes. Definitely one of our more memorable plates of our trip. Well-sized menu with plenty of meat and fish options as well as tapas. The wine is great and reasonably priced. Online reservations are available, which we were able to get last minute. The not-so-good: Can be expensive depending on what you get, and limited seating. Food/drink: 9/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 8.5/10

Amazing traditional Portuguese food in downtown Sintra . Recommended by a Tuk Tuk driver , we loved everything that we ordered. fried baby squid and shrimp, fish and potatoes stewed were delicious

Beautiful!

This restaurant was underwhelming for me, but the people there were friendly. I had a shrimp soup with olives, and my husband had the carrot soup, which was pretty good but nothing special. Trust me; I wanted to love, love this place, but it didn't happen for me, maybe next time.

Apple puff and ice cream - tastes exactly as you'd expect

FOOD: 4 stars SERVICE: 2 stars (see below) ** I know many of you will be swayed by good yelp reviews. This place overall is "ok". ** SUMMARY: Good comfort food in a cozy room off the beaten path in Sintra. I would come back here as long as it's not busy. Our bill came out to 67 euros for two people (2 tapas, 2 entrees, bottle of wine, bottle of water, one desert, bread). Debatable value. SKIP these: Sausage croquette (serviceable but forgettable); prawn curry (deep flavour profile but overpowered by salt); apple puff pastry (again, ok but forgettable) EAT these: stuffed mushrooms (best bite of the night), wine sauce pork tenderloins with rice. (Great portions, very tender, star of the dish was the rice - what? Rice was mixed with bacon, toasted hazelnuts and chestnuts, raisins and finished with a couple sprigs of rosemary). DRINKS: wine is reasonably price. Very extensive list. Worth exploring. SERVICE: tonight, it was poor. They were overwhelmed by a large table and essentially forgot about the other tables for half an hour. We had to ask twice for the menu (after waiting 15 minutes with no water), after getting one menu, was missing the drinks menu (so had to ask for that as well). Did not take our orders until late, and left us mid order to service another table (seriously?). Bread came with no olive oil or butter - have to order that separately. Also, prepare to pour your own water and wine, which is fine unless you see other tables being serviced. Overall, one of the worst services experienced while in Lisbon/Cascais/Sintra.

The wine list goes on pages, the service was available in English and the food was delicious. 3 cheese artisanal plate with sheep and goat cheese and marmalade, delicious stuffed mushrooms and a superb shrimp soup (like really good) (seriously good soup). Fried beef tenderloin with port reduction sauce and brocolli and mushrooms.... simple decor and setup that makes for good conversation ...definitely recommended

Stuffed Mushroom

The yelp reviews were really high and that's why we came, but my personal experience was just okay. This place has a cozy atmosphere and the food was okay, but a little too salty/bland for my taste. I ordered the garlic shrimp tapas, stuffed mushroom and the mushroom rice. Overall, the stuffed mushroom was my favourite but the other two dishes were very mediocre. The shrimp was recommended by a server, but it was too salty for our taste, and the mushroom rice was a play on risotto but was not creamy or cheesy, but more on the watery/bland side. It was okay after a long trip around Sintra, but didn't satisfy our appetite, so we had to go somewhere else to get a bifana.

Roasted octopus with potatoes and vegetables

Best restaurant by far during my 2 day stay in Sintra. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. I had the roasted octopus and its definitely the best and most tender I have had!

This is right in the neighborhood of shops and restaurants in the square of Sintra. Most tourists come to this place because it is the center of it all. Here you will find both mediocre shops and foods or places to go to eat, including the high end, and trendy tourists spots. You just have to choose your liking and through it all, I think what your heart desires. I had so much fun here and did SO much walking that my heart kept speaking to me. This is the only one restaurant that had a big screen TV so, people were in and out because it is the "soccer" season. They love their soccer here and wear their favorites t-shirts and what not. They have a full bar here as well as great food. I really enjoyed my meal here. There is no need for extra condiments or salt in my foods. They are prepared with so much flavors and just hits the spot. Otherwise, if you love hot and spicy, just ask the guy and he will warn you to be extra careful with it. He wasn't joking. When he says it's flaming hot, take his words. The guy who serves here is very charismatic and so nice. Did I mention most people of Portugal are genuinely kind? They really are! Do try to speak Portuguese as much as you can, enjoy, otherwise, just say you speak English and they do speak very well here. Tipping is not a must in most places but I am accustomed to it and they really appreciate it.

Stuffed mushrooms

Service was excellent, despite a very busy lunch time. we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Food was mixed. I liked the shredded cod with potatoes, but I was really turned off my the shrimp because they were not deveined. Stuffed mushrooms tasted good but there was something off about the texture of the meat. I hate to say it, but I'm pretty confident I got food poisoning from here.

The sangria (by the glass or in a clay jug) is a must.  We went all in as a group of four diners, ordering the sardine sandwich (incredibly fresh and layered with flavor), fried fish, octopus, scrumptious pig cheeks, and the most delicious chicken wings. Honestly, I could've skipped the steak sandwich, but everything else was outstanding. Didn't make it to dessert, but the plates we saw heading to other tables looked good. Even the bathroom adds to the experience, decorated like a home, complete with fake hanging "laundry". We walked in during a busy lunch time on a weekend day. Bacalhau na Vila -- A temple to Portugal's most iconic ingredient…read more Portugal has a deep culinary relationship with Bacalhau, and Bacalhau na Vila leans into that heritage completely. This isn't simply a restaurant that happens to serve cod; the entire concept is built around it. The menu explores bacalhau through multiple traditional preparations, each highlighting a different texture and flavour profile. We started with cream of spinach soup with cod, a surprisingly elegant opener. The soup was smooth and comforting, with the cod adding a savoury depth that balanced the creaminess without overpowering it. The appetizers showcased two beloved Portuguese classics. The codfish cakes (pastéis/bolinhos de bacalhau) were perfectly executed--light, crisp, and fluffy with well-balanced seasoning. The pataniscas, a looser cod fritter, had a rustic charm with a golden exterior and tender interior. For the main course we ordered roasted cod, which was excellent. The fish was flaky and deeply flavourful, demonstrating why bacalhau has been such an enduring staple in Portuguese cuisine. What makes the restaurant memorable is how intentionally it celebrates this ingredient. Cod has historically played a major role in Portugal's food culture, and Bacalhau na Vila turns that history into a cohesive dining experience. Service was friendly, attentive, and professional, with staff who clearly know the menu and take pride in the concept. If you're visiting Sintra and want to experience one of Portugal's most iconic ingredients prepared in several traditional styles, Bacalhau na Vila is a great place to do it.
