Love having a locally owned garden center in town. Yes, their prices are a bit higher than the mass retailers but the friendly service and pride of supporting truly a local business offsets that price tag I love their variety of plants (vegetable and flowering), as well. Our most recent trip was because we were looking for some exotic pepper seeds for our garden that Lowes doesn't carry. We were happy to see a small but great selection of hot pepper seeds and got the ghost pepper ones we were looking for. Kinda bummed they didn't have Carolina reaper but the ghost pepper will be just fine. read more

One of our local nurseries was out of a lot of some of the vegetables for our garden that we were looking for so we decided to take a drive to Petittis. We were so happy we did. We were able to find all of the vegetables that the nursery was missing! Everything looked healthy and the best part everything was organized and labeled and it was so easy to find. The prices were about $1 more than at the nursery but we thought paying the extra dollar per plant was worth it because they all looked healthier and they were easy to locate in the store. Sometimes your time is more valuable then money. This time was one of them!! We have since planted them and they have been growing for the past couple of weeks in the garden and they are all doing very well. It was worth the trip and the money we spent!! read more

I have been a customer of Petitti's and only Pettiti's for nearly a decade, until today. I have always found Petitti's to have an excellent selection of affordable plants. I have found some of their staff to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful. At this point, I rarely have questions. I know what I want and where it is. Before this summer, I would encourage everyone to shop at Petitti's. From a great selection to knowledgeable staff and understanding that a very large portion of their plants is grown in Ohio, Petitti's used to be the best garden center in NEOhio. However, a string of unpleasant interactions has made me realize their employees are poorly trained and very clearly opposed to providing any level of customer service. First, it was David who felt it appropriate to openly mock me as I asked about roses. Apparently, the only way to grow roses is David's way. If you have any other ideas, he will laugh at you and give you vague warnings about how you won't be growing roses. (Mine are doing fine.) The final straw was as I was checking out today. I had a small selection of veggies and needed some soil as well. In an effort to be helpful for both myself and the cashier, I told her that two of the peppers were the same so she could scan the one twice. As she ignored me and reached far across the counter, she said under her breath, "They're not the same." She turned the second one and then said, slightly louder, "They are the same." The implication that I am somehow too stupid to know what veggies I chose and the complete lack of any type of tact or finesse in her need to double check me was a glorious display of how poorly trained in customer service many Petitti's employees are. I left everything and spent no money today, nor will I ever shop there in the future. read more

We like this garden center. They carry a wide variety of healthy plants, gardening supplies, and seeds. Been shopping here for 25 years and have never had any issues with the quality of their wares. I do, however, have a problem with the recent lack of customer service in their outdoor area. We shopped for about 30 minutes here. Three young males were in this area but none were actually working. Two spent the entire time on their phones while the third stared away from us. None of them engaged with us and seemed to be actively trying to avoid any customer interaction. i wanted to take the time to say a word of appreciation for the workers of pettitis who helped me find a specific aggregate for soil as well as voice my thanks to James. he helped me come to a decision for a new plant and he was very knowledgeable and kind in his interaction. a separate time i was there, a customer had accidentally dropped a pot and it was very noteworthy to me how James' concern was first and foremost the customer's safety and made sure they were okay as he cleaned the spill. they have a great selection of plants and the price of them i feel is a great deal! thank you again to the workers at pettitis for fueling my unhealthy addiction to houseplants haha! read more

Petitti Garden Centers - a very healthy ZZ plant that i recently acquired with help from the workers! - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Tallmadge, Ohio

The checkout counter is stupid! You have to walk all around the store to get there! When you do you are greeted with very rude employees. The houseplants used to be in the greenhouse where they were taken care of and made it worth it to spend the extra cost because their plants are twice as high as big chain stores. Now, their houseplants are inside without light and look horrible. The employees watering them smell so bad the shopping experience was horrible! I will NOT return! read more

This place is great - though I rarely go in and need help. I enjoy wandering around their greenhouse and picking out some interesting looking houseplant and then strolling back inside to pick up a reasonably priced pot to go with my new find. The plants look healthy and free from pests (specifically, I look for spider mites). read more

I used to work for Petitti Garden Centers. Being a one time insider, I have to say I loved the Petitti's. In company meetings Angelo was always insisting that the customer be given the most for their money and the best product possible. He was adamant about that. Angelo truly cares about his employees and his customers. I have to admit that being from Canton (there are no Petitti's in Canton and had never heard of them before I was hired by them), I have never seen plants as beautiful as Petitti's have. Of all the stores I loved the Tallmadge store the best simply because of the people there. Everyone is excited to help you and are very knowledgeable. They seem to know most of their customers by name and their customers seem to love them so much they bring them cookies and candy. I no longer work for Petitti's and get no benefit for saying this but I highly recommend them. read more

I had gone to the Petitti Garden Center in Avon. I had some questions on the prices of the Christmas Trees and had asked if they came down in price any further before Christmas. The female employee stated "they're already 50% off." I told her even at 50% they were still too pricey for me. So then when I asked if they would go down any further the day after Christmas, she got an attitude, didn't tell me how much more they would go down in price, but said it would only be the display trees. So I walked out. I don't know how they price their artificial trees but they have to be ridiculously marked up. I've seen just as nice trees or better at another local garden center for less and will be going back there. Sorry, but every time I think I'm going go buy something at Petitti's, I walk out. read more

After going to national stores for my garden needs, for Begonias, Creeping Phlox, Black Eyed Susans and assorted hanging plants, I figured I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for higher quality plants this year. The store is big, clean and has a lot variety. The staff was pleasant. The plants there seemed reasonably well cared for, although I had to be careful not pick up certain plants that appeared to be neglected--like the staff had missed watering them in the last watering session. Upon picking the plant/hanging plant up, it would seem to be quite light. This should have been a red flag to me, but alas, I know plants like aerated soil (more on this later). This potting mix won't hold any moisture. Well, it's three months later and the hanging plants are dead, the begonias look like the day I planted them in the window boxes (spotty, stunted, skeleton like, not dead--not flourishing), creeping phlox has turned brown and is hanging on by a thread. The only thing that is doing fantastic are the Black Eyed Susans. Why, do you ask? Well, I cannot be sure, but empirical data would suggest that while the plants are dying, it isn't the plants, but the potting soil. Everything I planted with the potting soil (part Petitti's Potting Soil, part Ace Hardware top soil) is dead or in the process thereof. Because I ran out of the Petitti's potting soil (AKA, plant killer in my household), I used last years leftover miracle grow potting soil (plus same top soil) to plant the Black Eyed Susans. They are thriving. With the same mix, I also bought some Tiger Lilies from Lowe's, lo and behold, those are also thriving to the point where I couldn't kill them if I tried (or rather, planted them with Petitti's planting mix). So the moral of the story is, spending more doesn't always amount to higher quality. I will get my plants from Lowe's next Spring, pay less, and the Miracle Grow potting mix will not only not kill my plants, but my begonias will look like a bush by the end of June instead of a skeleton. read more
