Pets at Home have absolutely everything your feathered and furry friends could possibly need. There's food, toys, beds, blankets, leads, fleeing and worming medication and a vet counter in store. This is a proper, massive pet supermarket and it's delightful to see dogs walking their owners around the store - if only more businesses could be as animal friendly! Plus with their loyalty card scheme they post discount coupons out, addressed to your pet by name, which is cute. Staff are also very knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant. However it drops a couple of stars for the following reasons: ~ A lot of items you buy from Pets at Home you'll find at the same price or cheaper in your local supermarket. So shop around. ~ I believe it unethical to support the breeding, buying and selling of animals as pets especially when sanctuaries and pounds are filled to overflowing with unwanted pets. A couple of weeks after my lovely pooch died, my almost as lovely other half tipped me into the car and drove me to Pets At Home. 'You need something small and furry to cuddle,' he opined as he parked, really quite badly, in the massive car park. 'Apart from me, of course.' Well. I'd never thought of getting a rabbit, but when I saw Bailey, lop-eared and twitchy-nosed, in one of the glass enclosures, I became a bit childlike. I bounced on the balls of my feet a bit, tugged at the other half's sleeve and batted my eyelashes in an alluring manner. (Hang on, that last one's just creepy.) The other half went to find a staff member, while I lurked jealously by the bunny's enclosure, shooting filthy looks at anyone who came near. Especially kids. But he was back within a minute with a very impressively knowledgeable sales assistant, who told me everything I needed to know about rabbits and what to get them. (I wasn't listening by this stage because she'd taken the rabbit out for me and I was cuddling her and cooing into her fur [the rabbit, that is, not the sales assistant, because that would also have been creepy]. But a general sense of really-knowing-her-stuff came through the haze of love.) The shop in general is very well equipped with everything you could need for all types of pet, and the prices are really reasonable, with a budget range of essentials like feeding bowls or doggy poop scoopers starting at a quid. So we duly got all the equipment we needed for the new member of the household, which included a special starter deal for the cage, food, feeding bowl, bottles and toys. Then we very gently took that wascally wabbit home. She's well settled in now, leaves little poo balls everywhere and has been the cause of me electrocuting myself three times with a lead she's chewed through. But I loves her. I got a freaking Hamster (Chinese hamster called Henry, its an inside joke all very boring). Besides the realisation that all they ever really do is sleep or be raging that their not sleeping it has been a good experience. This is in no small part down to the people at pets at home. When we first got it, they lady who served us was very helpful in what to do for the first few days. She had lots of helpful hints and advice about what to expect. They also helped make this a very cheap venture by offering everything needed in a sort of bundle which meant the whole cost amounted to around £36 which is a bargain for a pet. Especially one that terrifies Mama K and puts her off making impromptu visits! read more

Honestly, I don't have pets. I did have pets, but they died. Three goldfish, one was obese, had a heart attack and the other two fought and killed each other. Tragic but true. However, every Sunday I make it my business to pop into Pets at Home on my way to a Sunday helping of KFC (Ireland's largest drive-through!) Seems strange but it's my life. I always wanted a rabbit but didn't think I was cut out for the whole cleaning out it's hutch and basically being responsible for a living, breathing animal. Therefore, Pets at Home is perfect. I get to see the animal, coo over their cuteness and leave again without having to deal with mess etc... The store is amazing for any people out their with pets, great range of items for cats, dogs, fish and other furry creatures. For families I see it as a free trip to a mini zoo where kids get to see the cool animals without parents being out of pocket trying to keep them. The staff are lovely and seem to have a real passion for their work, always asking if their customers are okay and attending to every need. read more

Ok so I went in here last week primarily to visit the vets at the back of the store. I had never been in before so when I entered I couldn't believe how vast the store was. As mentioned there was a vets and also a dog groomers at the back. This really is your one stop pet shop. The store itself is well laid out and easy to navigate. Each animal has it's own designated section. I was looking for the puppy section and when I got there (right at the front of the store) I couldn't believe the amount of puppy products there were. Everything from puppy toys and teething rings to special puppy shampoo for sensitive puppy skin. The staff in Pets At home seem to be real animal lovers. I was in the shop with puppy in tow and every single staff member stopped me to give him a wee pet. One thing I would say is Pets at Home is a little bit more expensive than independent pet shops and other discount stores. You can pick up some products at a fraction of the price they charge. So just be aware and don't go blowing all your hard earned cash in here without shopping around. read more

Called in here on a recent visit to Boucher Road, as far as pet stores go it's pretty good as it covers all areas / bases. They cater for a large range of pets including, birds, reptiles, cats, dogs, fish and small mammals (hamsters, gerbils and Guinea pigs) they have a huge selection on offer and the best part is that you are allowed to bring your pet in store. So naturally I brought the two dogs in, just as long as they are kept on a leash. They also have added a new part to the back of the store which is for grooming your dog. It is a drop of and collect service so you can leave your dog in for a new hair due and go shopping in any of the stores nearby. read more

As a dog owner, and a very 'proud mummy' dog owner, I love this place. I love it because you can bring your dog into the shop with you to help you get your pet supplies, because as we all know, dog's are great personal shoppers. Yeah....right - we all just want to show off our gorgeous doggies. And so what? That's what pet owners are like, and I love that you are allowed to bring your pet in here - it stands to reason, it's a pet shop. And it's fab, it's got everything you might need and also sells animals too - I've lost count of the amount of times I've nearly come out with a new pet rabbit. I sent my daughter in to get some goldfish but I was absolutely appalled when I heard the member of staff asking her questions and I have kept many different types of fish including goldfish for many years and he was saying things that are certainly not true. I am devastated and we will never be shopping at pets at home again we will just go to a local pets shop. why is it 101 questions to buy a goldfish? Its their loss of a customer. read more

I love pets at home as they literally stock everything you need and most stuff you can buy in bulk reducing not only the price but the number of times you have to go to the supermarket to get more. Also, you can bring you animals in. i always bring the dog and let him choose his own toy - hours of fun! Well worth a look also if you are wanting to buy a small pet, however, my husband (when he was my boyfriend) got two hamsters that turned out to be of the opposite sex and where breeding like rabbits!! Hi, I am writing to say that all the time I am walking in the store I can't find anybody to help me from stuff , it takes me some good while until anybody even appears appart of just one ceshier standing. when I find stuff it's always not friendly at all , lazy , and not willing to answer any question. they sold me sick fishes already second time , what I am not happy about , and every time they speak some new information about things - I had 24 litres tank and they would say that it is ok for 2 fish . then I got 40 litres tank and they would not aloud put 4 fish inside so I would come buy 4 but they would say no u can just take 1 for 40 litres it is just 1 fish ..... non sense at all ... so I am not happy about stuff there at all , they should be around to reach them to search for them for 15 min every time, and as well they should be way more friendly not bored and lasy and rolling they eyes around .. read more

We had previous purchased a young Syrian from them. She / he was incorrectly sexed and was diagnosed with a brain tumor caused by incest according to the vet who put her down. The vets in store kept saying it was an abscess and giving me eye drops and antibiotics which she/he was on for the remainder of her/his short life. Now you could say I just got unlucky - fair enough. But when we were in today just to look at the adopted animals, we noticed that three of the rabbit hutches had no food or water, and the rats cage was filthy. It was covered in filth, caked around the food bowl and wheel. The water hadn't been changed in days from the looks of things. Overall - horrible treatment of animals. The staff are lovely but come on! This is horrible. If I wasn't so against buying from you again due to your cooperation with rodent farms, I'd go right back in and buy all of your poor wee creatures. This is animal cruelty! read more

I feel a member of your staff displayed exemplary customer care this evening. Not to mention kind, understanding compassion and a mindful approach within his position. I'll explain; Life on occasion delivers what can only be described as slow motion moments... this evening was such a moment for me. Having arrived back in Belfast having driven two hours to get home, I realised that I had forgotten to bring low-fat dog food for my schnauzer, who has recently been hospitalised for pancreatitis. Adding to this I was to get on a flight the next morning so picking it up before leaving was not possible. Now Saturday night and 18:05hrs Pets at home were now CLOSED... I called the store as the lights were still on inside and a young gentleman by the name of Rowan answered the phone and explained that they had cashed up and the tills were off therefore transactions could not be processed. When I explained my difficulty he did something completely unexpected. As it is strictly against store policy to serve a member of the public after closing time. Rowan said I can't with a clear conscience leave your pup without this low-fat food as I understand the seriousness of giving a dog the wrong food if it has had this condition (my pup almost died). Rowan said "I'll pay for it on my card. I can't accept any money for the food as I could lose my job (AND HE DIDN'T). But please pay it forward for someone else". He brought out four tins of pets at home own brand 'advanced nutrition, light and sensitive'. With those kind words Rowan has secured our custom.
