It stocks small animals and fish, although I have never noticed birds, but all of the stuff I buy is at the front of the store so perhaps they are a little further up. It's a relatively small store but packs in loads of stuff; we always get our puppy gravy bones from here which you can pick yourself, in a sort of doggy pick n mix. The prices are very, very reasonable too, with a good sized bag of dog treats coming to just under a pound. You would have paid triple that amount in Pets at Home! Hopefully this wee shop doesn't suffer because of Pets at Home's success!

In and out in minutes in a good way that is. More the 'I'll dash in to pick up [required item] on the way home opposed to the 'Oh my goodness - run for the door quick!'. The staff are really friendly and ultra helpful with a good knowledge of pet care, products and everything in-between (despite not actually having any pets in store). You'll also find loads of stock packed into a, relatively, small shop. Hence, if you wanted to you could easily spend a good while in here mulling over the high selves with everything from cat and dog baskets to guinea pig exercise toys. Erm, this is where I have to admit that me and the boy drunkenly bought a guinea pig together about nine months ago. Furthermore, it's only been within the past month that I've discovered guinea pig exercise toys exist - for 'fun, health, entertainment and exercise'. Therefore, this is the place where you'll find any pet related supplies you need - or think you need now that you know they exist. The staff are great, the prices and much better than anywhere else I've been and it would seem that they have the tastiest guinea pig food around. Oh, and they have an array of people's personal adverts for litters in the window/door way so you can always have a look over those if you're thinking about acquiring a new pet. You'll also find a good range of very decently priced hutches and cages.

The staff are also really helpful and will keep you right so you won't disappoint. If you've recently got a new critter then the people here are great for advice. Although they don't stock a lot of things for the reptile population they helped my old flatmate get the right materials for her baby corn snake, so whatever animal you have, they know what they're talking about. Even if you need something that they don't usually stock, they can sometimes order it in for you.

This wonderful bunch of people make it possible for hundreds of dogs to live happier lives thanks…read moreto their hard work and devotion to the cause. Every year many dogs find themselves without a home and those who are lucky enough to be taken to Glencaple then they will be treated with care and respect until they can be rehomed. There are many ways to help - even if you can't adopt a dog you can volunteer your time to walk the residents or help with fund raising events such as fun days or bake sales. If that doesn't take your fancy you can sponsor a dog, become a member or just donate to the cause. If you do give a dog a new home they offer continued support to ensure you and your dog have the best possible experience. A wonderful place doing wonderful work!
So everybody knows that before lilo I had Shug, a rescue dog from Dumfries and Galloway rescue…read morecentre. I walked him plenty of times a day, trained him for small periods of time a few times a day. He knew a few small simple commands, he was good with his recall, brilliant on his lead, but he was terrible in a car, he would sit and cry and all sorts. He would bark anytime there was a household appliance with a cable, or the cupboard under the stairs. He wasnt crate trained and hed go mental when we put him in it, so therefore he couldn't be left alone. So we built a spacious outdoor run for me to train him in, and to train him to handle being alone for small periods of time. So essentially the information his previous owner gave the centre was 80% bullshit. I'd had to ring the vets a few times as through night, hed stand up bolt upright, run to the corner of the room barking. So I'd sit on the floor away from him and try to comfort him from a distance, he eventually came round and went back to sleep barking and snarling in his sleep. Then all of a sudden one day he turned agressive. I was playing with him fine, he was licking me playing along, I answered my phone and when I hung up the phone. He tried to attack me, biting me, snarling his teeth, barking when I tried to stand up to get out the room to let him calm down, hed bite my ankles, shins and feet. So I'd collapse back to the floor. After this I found out it was just me hed bit! I eventually got out of the room and rang the rescue centre. They basically turned round and told me I was lying and that he was never like this in the centre. They eventually turned round and said they wanted me to return him as they wanted to do further training and assessments on him to try find out what was going on. So after hard conversations with everyone, we all agreed it's what would be best for everyone. We took him back, and the centre tried to find an excuse for everything that I was saying, saying he was playing with me. When I knew the difference between playing, and aggression. Well today we'd noticed hes back on the website for adoption. There is absolutely no mention of anything that I said, other than I couldn't commit to the further training he needed? I told the centre I wanted to continue training but they persisted for us to take him back. He was a brilliant dog but I think that the truth needed to be posted about him. And that this centre lie. I've heard numerous stories of this happenning.
