The only reason PetSecure is getting a 2-star rating from me is because I did have an 'okay' (3-star) experience with this company a few years ago. Before I had time to get medical records on file this time, I found that a telephone associate would provide a verbal response, only to have an 'advisor' email a different response. This didn't happen only one time, but THREE times in a three-week period before coverage even started. And, not once did an 'advisor' email promptly. I had to follow up by phone and was left on hold for long periods of time, their excuse being Covid-19. However, they were not tardy when putting through my monthly fee! Very Restrictive reading of policy. I've paid the monthly fee for my dog's 8 year life. He needed a chipped tooth removed - there was no evidence of dental illness, or trauma, and the company would not consider this an "accident" or a treatment for the dog's pain. Coverage was capped at $200, versus $1000. If you are seeking insurance for your pet, you're better off opening a TFSA and putting the monthly insurance cost in there. Had I done this, I would have had more to put toward in bill in 5 months, or more than the $1000 cap in 2 years. 8 years of donations to persecute with nothing but difficulty when I needed them. I wish we had insured with another company. Poor customer service. Staff that often don't care to check o the accuracy of the information they are providing. I have had to make numerous phone calls about delayed claims just to find out that they need another piece of information (after being told by three previous customer service members that everything they need was submitted). I've been with this company for nearly 15 years, and throughout that time my premiums have increased every year while my deductible was raised to the maximum within just a few years. Now that my dog is 16 years old and needs more medical support, they have reduced my coverage ratio from 80% to 60%. They pulled the exact same move last year--right before my dog required major medical care that cost me $1,500. During that period, they only covered 60%. After I complained, they claimed they had done a "careful review" and restored the coverage back to 80%. And yet, this year, they lowered the coverage to 60% again, justifying it by saying, "we are not increasing your premium this year..." If you are debating whether to use PetSecure, do NOT use this company. Save your money and avoid the stress, inconsistency, and nonsense. They do not support long-term customers when it matters most. They won't let you feel that you are protected. They will try their best to profit off of you and your dog. read more

A total Scam 15+ years and over $15,000.00 paid out with no claims my friend had to euthanize her dog so it cost $1,183.00 .When she contacted Pet Secure they threw a $700.00 deductible into the equation so she decided to cancel and not submit the claim as the $483. would just be paid back to them while waiting months for a miniscule claim payment. Vet marked on the form as an accident, submitted everything, didn't hear back for a month. They denied it, claiming it was a "condition". Assuming the best, I told them no, it wasn't, it was clearly marked as an accident by the vet. Now they're asking me to submit a formal appeal - even though they obviously messed up (or, more likely, deliberately denied it and hoped I wouldn't follow up). My 14 year old dog just passed...I still have an 11 year old cocker spaniel. I had both on plan 4 , the top plan. No matter how good a saver you are , you can never anticipate the soaring prices for vet fees and drugs. When the dogs are young, yes it seems more is going out in premiums than ever coming back but just wait till hopefully your dog lives to middle age or older! Even the bank thought that this company sounded sketch. I had PetSecure for around 6 months and decided to call in to cancel as i got a pet whose breed is naturally predisposed to a lot of health issues, which they do not cover and i decided it's cheaper for me to not have the insurance. The Customer Service Rep I spoke with said sure and asked me the name of my pet, email, etc to confirm for the cancellation. 6 months later i see i am still being charged, I called in and asked if i still have an account with them and they said no i do not. I lose my debit card and i think i am finally free from them, but they were still charging me because they had my account number, transit number, all that shebang. I call in 6 months later, so one year after the initial call of cancelation, they tell me that there is no record of the call in their client history with me, the Customer Service Rep told me i should have taken a screen shot of the call from my call-log and saved it (She said this word for word). She then told me i should know that they do not accept cancellations via telephone and that is it through email only. I asked if i could get a refund since i should not have been getting charged, she said no since there is no documentation of the call, there was no cancellation that occurred. I was stuck with a vet bill of over $1000 because my dog has an accident and need to go see an optometrist for an eye surgery and later the same dog has Intervertebral disc herniation or "slipped disc" that cost me another $2000! If you get the secure for life, which includes Holiday cancellation, burial or cermation and other benefits. I had a HORRIBLE experience with them. First of all, I hope you're patient because the 10-day-period needed to review my case took TWO MONTHS (I sent my claim on March 26th and this saga ended today, May 26th). It was very difficult to get someone on the line and it would simply hung up on me without having been able to speak to anyone. I had to call many times during the day, multiple times an hour to get someone on the line. I had to speak to three different people on the phone on separate occasions and send emails to another just to activate my customer account and start this whole insurance claiming process...I've never had that kind of experience with any insurance company before. The insurance coverage takes 48h before being activated. I adopted a cat from a shelter on March 5th. On March 8th, I had to go to the vet because the cat was vomiting bile. The shelter told me that my coverage was effective since I had GONE TO THE VET 48h after the adoption. Unfortunately, Petsecure took into account that the cat's symptoms from the night before (March 7th) were the starting point for the cat's record and not the date of the appointment. Honestly, bad reviews aside, I wholeheartedly recommend Pet Secure. I've been with them since 2012 for my cat King, from his kitten age all the way up to his recent passing. Pet Secure was there all the way, even providing coverage for his euthanasia/cremation. In my Baby's lifetime he had some health issues and got into a lot of trouble. Vet bills are already expensive enough. I had peace of mind knowing that I would be reimbursed for the majority of the costs. I had Secure Level 2 for those wondering. I was usually reimbursed within a month, not bad at all. I also appreciate the customer service. Even the kind messages to us after King's passing. It was appreciated in a time of emotional vulnerability. I will soon be canceling my Pet Secure, as I no longer have a King. However, I will not hesitate to sign up again if I get another cat. It is very clear to me, why it is almost impossible to find any reviews for this insurance company and why they don't allow comments on their social media...because you would not be seeing anything positive. When we originally decided on this insurance for our puppy (it was the insurance the shelter had picked for a free 7 day trial), the customer service agent was already harassing us about our choice of coverage and gave us the whole sales pitch even though we asked him not to, trying to get us to choose a more expensive package. He was obviously offended by us not buying in and insisting on our original choice. The first two claims continued to be a hassle, since one claim was randomly placed on hold. We were not informed of this and only realised this after we were not reimbursed for weeks and I checked the portal again. As a reason, they gave a missing invoice. An invoice that I had already uploaded. This December our puppy suddenly passed away after we drove 5 hours rushing her to an emergency clinic in the middle of the night. We left that clinic heartbroken, without her, but with a hefty vet bill, that we had to pay right there. After a week of mourning we took care of all the bureaucratic tasks and handed in our claim by providing the extremely detailed invoice the clinic gave us. Since this had been an emergency, we did not take the time to print out the claim form, Petsecure asks you to have filled out by your vet. Thinking the invoice would be enough, I submitted the claim and waited. I got the email saying our insurance was cancelled (due to our pet's demise) almost right away and figured the payment would come soon after. Instead it took another while for them to send an email asking for the claim form. I emailed the form to the clinic right away but knowing it could take a while for them to get back to me (more pressing tasks at hand like, I don't know, saving lives?) I called Petsecure to ask them if this was really necessary. I was greeted by a rude customer service agent who expressed zero compassion. When letting him know that this is adding stress to an already horrible situation, he had the audacity to point out that it took us one whole week to hand in the claim after our puppy died. Even though I stayed polite the whole time and assured him that I had no personal issue with him and just wanted to point out a flaw in the companies policies, he showed no understanding and kept repeating the same words "this is for practical reasons" DO NOT INSURE YOUR PET HERE. You will spend your days sending around forms like chain letters and waiting for money to arrive when you should be spending time with and taking care of your pet. As a comparison, other pet insurance companies have 24/7 customer service and will pay the clinic instantly so you don't have to spend money you don't have (the whole point of insurance). read more

I called and it would never get through, I emailed and they answered weeks later. Then, I tried to get the bills covered. It was $800 of my money gone that should have been covered. At this point, they elect to tell me that she needed a health check done before her file could be completed, despite me being told when I signed up that since she was only 8 weeks old that she would not need a prior health check. I have been paying for pet secure for 8 years. We have two dogs so times that by 2. I have had maybe one or two items actually covered through them, there always seems to be some reason why they won't cover something. I also rarely get responses back from their team when I reach out. Often I have to follow up four or five times. My dog is going through a forced spay as a result of pyometra which is life threatening. They won't cover any of it even though it's non-negotiable. Additionally, rates continue to incline despite the fact that I had made zero claims until this year. It is better to self-insure to be honest. When I signed up March 17, 2022, I gave all documentation from my breeder, the breeder's vet, and my vet. Pet secure took payment from my credit card the very next day after my application March 18. I made an appointment to see my vet with my kitten March 28, less than 2 weeks after I got the insurance to be in compliance with their requirements for me to have a medical examination conducted by my vet. my vet said she will send documents to my insurance. perfect. I got an email on April 14 indicating they have not yet received any medical records. Again, I sent all medical records in my application a month prior, and gave all of my vets contact information so they could get what they need directly from the vet because I am not a medical professional. so I resent the exact same medical records again and phoned my vet to resend the proof of medical examination from her. Currently Petsecure STILL do not have all required medical records?! for a 6 month old perfectly healthy kitten who has only been to the vet twice, and they have everything that I have for records for my kitten, so I have no idea what else I can give them. This insurance company is still charging me for the insurance while I am apparently NOT covered due to administrative errors on their end!! They have taken payment on March 18, April 18 DESPITE me "not being covered " Absolutely unprofessional, lack of correspondence, and unethical continued withdrawal of money if the policy is not in place yet!!
