We've had a couple of good grooming experiences here, but during check-in at our most recent visit, Tina (the salon manager) hurt our senior dog in front of us, condescended to us with inaccurate information, and was generally antagonistic. She hurt our dog by repeatedly trying to rip a comb, root-to-tip, through his matted coat -- my pup was in obvious pain as she did this. Her point was to show us how matted he was, to justify a de-matting fee. We already told her our dog was matted and agreed to the de-matting fee, so there was no need to belabor it. Also, of course you can't pull a comb root-to-tip through a matted poodle coat -- you're supposed to de-mat tip-to-root using a brush. In my book, hurting an animal to prove a point is sick, and it probably means Tina shouldn't be trusted to handle animals for a living. In the midst of lecturing us, Tina asked what we were using to brush him at home -- her tone made it seem like she doubted we were brushing him at all. We told her, as we've told every groomer before her, we use a slicker brush for the most part. She loudly condescended, "That's garbage! You're not gonna get any mats out with that" and told us we should be using a comb instead. Based on six years of caring for a poodle mix, I was certain this was not correct. My mother is a dog groomer who owned and operated a grooming salon, and she, along with every salon we've taken our poodle to, has confirmed we're using the best brush for him. Every search result on the topic concurs that a slicker brush is the most fundamental tool to care for a poodle's coat; a comb is a finishing tool, not for de-matting. Not wanting to argue publicly with a professional over her presumed subject matter expertise, we smiled and nodded until she finally took our pup back for grooming. His haircut came out fine, but I have to wonder -- when we left, did Tina de-mat his coat correctly using a brush or incorrectly using a comb? If the former, Tina knowingly gave us incorrect information. If the latter, she caused our dog unnecessary pain due to her ignorance. Neither possibility is acceptable. My partner and I are working professionals, experienced dog parents, and new homeowners. Our poodle is not typically matted; he was matted because we've been overwhelmingly busy buying, renovating, and moving into a home and have simply not had the time we normally do to brush him. Now that our lives have calmed again, we will resume our at-home grooming routine. There was no need to lecture or condescend to us, and certainly not to promote disinformation about how to take care of our dog. This is the main issue that concerns me about Tina and why we aren't comfortable with her grooming our dogs. However, a couple of other things happened that are worth noting, since they help paint a picture of how Tina seems to be. One of the first things she asked was why our schnauzer mix had a muzzle on. Her tone was combative right out of the gate, but the question was more than fair, so we readily told her we keep our pup muzzled in public because she has bitten a couple of times. Tina didn't ask for further details and barked at me to take the muzzle off. I was shocked she had barked an order at me and confused as to why I needed to take the muzzle off right now when I could just remove it along with her other gear in a few minutes. Turns out, there was no reason to bark at me to take the muzzle off - no reason other than to antagonize and condescend. Tina also insisted obsessively during check-in "This is NOT a miniature poodle!" I thought, "I know, that's why I filled out the form stating he's a 27-lb mini-poodle MIX." Ignoring her unpleasantness, we simply told her that the rescue said he's a poodle-Bedlington mix. She continued, "He's way too big for a mini-poodle, he's definitely a Bichon." At this point, we were confused as to why this lady was so bent on us being wrong. Why did she think it was impossible for a mini-poodle mix to be slightly larger than a purebred mini-poodle? He certainly isn't a standard poodle or a toy poodle. Ultimately, he's a mixed-breed rescue dog, so no one knows what breeds he is. Tina abruptly ended the seemingly pointless disagreement by stating aggressively, "Well in my system he's a cockapoo, so the price for his bath and brush is going to be higher." Once I understood the point of her insistence - to charge a higher price - her aggression made it seem like she thought we were trying to get a lower price by misrepreseting his breed. Not in the slightest; he's been to six different grooming salons since we've had him, and he's probably seen 12-15 individual groomers. We've told all of them that he's a 27-lb mini-poodle mix, and it's never been an issue until we met Tina. I hope that going out of her way to proactively undermine and dismantle her clients' good grooming practices in order to instead promote disinformation about caring for animals would disqualify Tina from managing a PetSmart salon. read more

had another awesome experience at Petsmart in North Brunswick, My Lulabelle looks amazing after her "spa treatment" today! She loves to go there and see all her friends. Especially the salon manager Tina, who did this awesome job today! All of the groomers there are awesome with the animals. My baby can sometimes be a handful, but never ever have had an issue, Tina and the rest of the crew know just what to do so that she comes home looking amazing, complete with a bow in her hair! HEATHER IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND NASTY!!!!!! Today my pet had an appointment for grooming, just to get an appointment was an ordeal. The appointment was with Sara, so I have no idea why Heather "the so called manager" intervened. Heather who was very nasty told my husband that she couldn't take my pet because as per her "she has a bulging eye". She then called me screaming that my husband had just left, I advised her to calm down I'm sure he went to get something, which is exactly what he did. He went to get the rabies certificate from the car. I tried to explain to Heather that my pet is blind and has glaucoma and one of her eyes is slightly bigger than the other. "NOT BULGING". I also tried to explain to her that our vet and my pet's optometrist has cleared her for grooming. The best part was that my pet was groomed there before. I think I forgot to mention, I made the appointment with Heather and she was nasty then also. That was my second time trying to make an appointment, first I was advised that I couldn't make an appointment at all because my pet's shots had expired. That was rectified after a back and forth match with Heather then. So I ask, is Heather discriminating against my pet or me? Does Heather need training? Does Heather need a wake up call? I spoke to the manager Chris who was of no help. I then spoke to the district manager who was very nice and apologized for the situation and even offered me complimentary services. I have never been spoken to in the manner that Heather did and I feel that this situation needs more attention that it was given. I plan to escalate this to the CEO so other people are aware that, customer service is a serious business. Paying customers should not be treated in that manner. read more

My dog ( who is very large and hairy) was groomed by the academy student (Bianca) and it was one of the best haircuts she has ever gotten ! It was a great experience and I'm sooo pleased with the haircut and how my dog was treated! Highly recommend! read more

I took my shih tzu over for a full bath and hair cut. Apparently they say you have to schedule full hair cut because they don't know until you take your pup in. On the day of the appointment I spoke with the employee and I mention to her I just need a trim. she used her comb brush him and there was no matted just on his tummy. She measure his hair I said yes just a trim and you can shave around his genital area. I told her couple months ago my pup hair was really matted and I had to shaved him down and it was very sad!!! I put in the extra time for my baby made sure I brush him consistently! Just so that I didn't had to put him through that again. I went back to pick my pup up and there he was shaved very low I was very sad and angry! I told her I didn't expect her to shave him down she said he was matted I told her you could have at least call me let me know before shaving him down! His hair cut was not even clip right it was all uneven clearly like she didn't know what she was doing! His face was still dirty! My pup is my everything and I am never bring him back to Pet Smart of North Brunswick! There was a huge lack of communication!! This review doesn't even deserve a one star! read more

The trainer was standing right there talking with his coworkers, but informed me that he had canceled the class - "didn't you get the message?" Um, no, I didn't. Not by text, not by email. I'll give the short version of the story, basically my son went in to this location and ended up buying a guinea pig that had two abscesses under his chin. We got him into the vet that same day and needless to say the bill was pretty significant. My son emailed corporate to let them know what had happened and that they essentially sold an unhealthy guinea pig. The manager of the store immediately reached out to my son and after conversations back-and-forth he refunded everything that my son spent in the store that day as well as reimbursed all the vet bills. He also agreed to reimburse my son for any additional vet bills or medication related to this diagnosis. I believe that their policy is that they are not responsible once you leave with the pet, however, I am highly impressed with the responsibility that the store manager took. Kudos to them for doing the right thing. There's a good chance that they wouldn't have noticed these abscesses on this guinea pig and it may not have ended well. read more

BAD EXPERIENCE WITH TINA the grooming Manager - SHE IS VERY NASTY AND RUDE. NEEDS TRAINING IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. Tina the grooming salon manager at North Brunswick is very unprofessional and nasty. She really needs training in customer service. I had an appointment for my dog on Feb 19th. When we went to the appointment, Tina was extremely rude and suggested that we take our dog to the vet and get him sedated to do his grooming as he had some matting. My dog has been getting groomed at Petsmart for that last 5 years and we never had any issues. This is the most ridiculous thing I heard from a so-called professional groomer. When we asked to get re-scheduled, she refused to give us an appointment. We had to speak to the store manager Chris, and he scheduled us for 2/28 with another groomer. When we went back today for the appointment, we were told that our appointment was cancelled as they do not feel comfortable grooming my dog. Tina instructed the groomers not to do my pet. So I ask, is Tina discriminating against my pet or me? She seriously needs training on Customer service. The store manager was not of much help. I have escalated this complaint and will take it up to the district manager. Both my pets have been getting groomed for the last 5 years at Petsmart and we have never been turned down or spoken to like that. This needs more attention. I don't get to come here super often, because it's not the closest pet store near me. However, this store definitely has a lot of great products for my pets. They have great food. toys. Well, everything else good for a pet. but food and toys are mainly the two reasons I go to a pet store. I will say, though, this has more of a variety than Petco. Petco I can barely find anything, and here is where I adopt my pets, and they have the cutest animals ever. You'd want to take every animal home with you. Staff is for the most part friendly. Some just work for the money. It's cool. Overall, great pet store. It's a pet's dream. read more

I've been coming here for about 2 years for the grooming of my miniature poodle Morris. Before I was using a high end "home service" , but Morris never really looked that great plus it was getting way too expensive for a mediocre service. OnceI was food shopping at Petsmart and I bumped into a very picky and fussy friend of mine who just got her Cocker groomed there. The pooch looked amazing! For some reason I never thought of getting grooming services at Petsmart, it's like getting a haircut in the Mall...:) Anyway, my friend recommended Alex, and I was very happy with her service as well. Alex is attentive, caring and a real expert. Morris always looks very handsome after the visit. And not just that, but he is always happy to return, that means he is treated very well. Since then many of my friends started to use her, all very happy. The place is clean and everybody is helpful and nice. Very highly recommend it! read more

When I drove past today she was going into the store with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. She dropped my dog 4 months ago and he ended up being rushed to Banfield Animal Hospital with a bloody nose. Can't believe she is still allowed to work there?! What kind of people do they hire?! Thank God my dog is fine. Don't go to her and the Salon Manager, Heather, was also Nasty to me. Go to Princeton Petsmart...ask for Brian, the Salon Manager, he will do a great job and take care of your pet. I have been to this store many times and usually I have an OK experience. This is where I usually go to get my fish related items and haven't had many issues. I purchased a fish tank from this store and the light broke as well as the heater. They don't warranty their own products! I was told I'd have to purchase a whole new tank set from them. And forget calling there to try to get any help. The employees act as if they are outraged that you are asking them to do their jobs. read more

The very best groomers period. If you are a conscious dog parent and want to make sure your 4 legged child will be handled with care, this is the place to go. We have a young 150 lb mastiff and a very grouchy elder schnauzer, neither is easy to handle, Heather management of this place is very much on point, the groomers all have a great background and did not just show up there- I been using them for almost 20 years (we had shepherds and Danes before) and I ask a lot of questions- they are very caring and you can absolutely see their hearts brake when I have been there and they have some of the dogs that get 1 or 2 a year grooms, all matted in pain, they way I seen them handle the poor neglected babies is very encouraging, specially because our senior dogs needs extra patience, and our the huge 150 puppy too just because of his size. There are decades of experience in this place, we have appointments with Sue for so many years- the only one that can do Montecristo's.ears, Tina too has some incredible beautiful cuts, and I have also book with the younger staff- Sara- management knows how to hired heart center people that just happened to be very talented dog groomers. After so many years of going there and seeing the negativity of comments, I believe people need to see through- sometimes a negative comment is just going after free service offers, or don't understand that digs can't just be groomed 1 a year and that they need to be brush while at home. Like I said over 20 years in the neighborhood, so glad this store is here, the management is great, for the store and Heather in the salon, they won't keep personal that it's not loving towards animals. The place is clean, friendly and what is most important to me, they are very caring and loving towards our four legged kids, you can feel it when you come in Lol! No, I am not after any free devices here, they work extremely hard and they should be compensated accordingly- for the many years of caring. I took my cat to get her nails trimmed here. The girl at the at front desk at the grooming salon was printing up some paper work for me to sign that ended up not being for my cat. I always go there for cat items. The store is very clean and spacious. It doesn't overwhelmingly smell like animals. Things are placed on the shelves without clutter. They always have good sales on cat items. Most of the time they're in stock of what I get. The people at the checkout are always present and nice. It's also cool to watch the dog training classes as they happen. And their restrooms are very clean. read more

While we have had a generally good relationship with these groomers, it changed today. I'm still trying to figure out the logic behind what I was told. Our appointment was scheduled for 12:30, and for some reason I recorded 2:30. Just as a point of reference, we live 5 minutes away from this PetSmart. We walked in at 2:30 sharp and was told our appointment was actually at 12:30. I looked at the groomer in disbelief, and asked her why they didn't call. She said we're usually there early or on time, so she thought something happened. I let her know if anything happened, we would have called her. I asked her if it was their practice not to call a client that's obviously late (like maybe a call at 12:45 if an appointment was at 12:30), but there was no response to my question. The amount of gymnastics involved in making this appointment, including scheduling it for a Monday afternoon so we can get our 'regular' groomer, was significant. I'm sorry we were late, but not even a phone call/text/email letting us know our appointment was 2 hours earlier? I'm sorry, it only takes one event of this type...we'll be looking for another groomer. read more

I dropped off my shin tzu to be groomed and when I picked him up and brought him home a few hours later I noticed he brought home fleas with him!! FLEAS!!!!! My dog is never around any other animals, he's weewee pad trained and is never outside beside in my backyard or a quick walk in front of my home and he did not I repeat DID NOT have fleas before I dropped him off to be groomed. When I called to complain the manager was a complete jerk and said I couldn't bring him back so they can give him flea bath or to remedy the situation because according to him "It's the law in NJ that they can't accept dogs who have fleas"!!!! I said "BUT YOU ARE THE ONES WHO JUST GAVE HIM THE FLEAS!!!!!!". Hundreds of dollars later spent on flea medicine, carpet cleaning, flea baths, having to throw out all his toys and clothes and dog beds not to mention the anxiety and stress of having to deep clean my entire house everyday and the sickening feeling that there might be fleas crawling on me for a couple of weeks until the fleas were completely gone, PetSmart did NOTHING to remedy this horrible situation. As a rule, I usually like going to PetSmart. Especially when I can bring my shelter dog, Missy, along for the ride. But this time I was overwhelmed by the hassle and lack of service I got. Missy needs a prescription dog food. So I went in to one of the stores only to be told that they can only fill that "prescription" via a Banfield vet and -- of course -- that particular store did not have a Banfield Vet. In addition, even if you already have the prescription card, you can only get the food at a store with a Banfield. So they sent me to another store which I went to (in the rain), got the prescription card and then was told they were out of the actual food. A complete waste of time. I spent several hours in the rain trying to find my dog's proper food and getting the stupid prescription card. They should allow you to simply come in with the prescription from your vet, issue the card at the register (this isn't getting some drug or something) and carry the food in ALL the stores -- not just the ones with Banfield's. The store itself is good, but particularly the woman who works with cats in the grooming salon is fantastic. We take our to get thier nails trimmed and she is great with them. She talks to them calmly though the whole thing so they feel comfortable. Treats them like she would her own pets.
