Rensselaer Pet Care, Doctors Janice (mother) and Nick (son), along with the entire staff care for all of our babies. 2 - This review is literally being written as I hear the horn of the Amtrak train my wife and I were supposed to be on to take us on a vacation. 3 - These people, all of them, have walked WITH us through some of the hardest parts of our lives ... and we would choose no place else to trust the care of our "children". The first dog of ours that they began seeing, Charlotte, had a mast cell tumor that they did their very best to remove. Dr. Jan made sure to take wider than normal margins to get it all. That surgery bought us 2 really good years with her and when it returned, it came back hard and fast. I believed that they were as upset as we were the day we had to put her down. (By the way, all the pictures you post to sites like Facebook eventually end up in the public domain. I am attaching a picture of me holding Charlotte on my lap that I found at a completely unrelated page for another business.) We decided to adopt a different breed, this time German Wirehaired Pointer. The one we got needed a gentle and loving home because he had been traumatized in the foster he had been placed with (got in a fight with another dog of the owners; kicked by a horse; and chemically burned when she mis-applied flea repellent). The staff and doctors helped us heal his poor soul and get him back to a place where he could live as good a life possible considering the baggage he brought with him. He later got ill and through blood work, it was found that he had lymphoma that had metastasized and was running rampant throughout his system. They helped us lay this poor soul to rest a few days later. That brings me to Hero, our current German Wirehaired Pointer. He was found in northern Minnesota in January, abandoned, alone and literally days away from death (he was under 32 pounds and is now 71). The entire staff at Rensselaer Pet Care has walked with us as he has had 3 surgeries at a specialist clinic (the rescue group specified this clinic for his care because all surgeons were board certified in their specialty) in Indianapolis for tooth extractions, root canals and tumor removals by an oncologist. They have supported all of this and more. Yesterday, the day before our vacation, Hero was not feeling good and refused to eat. They got us in immediately and spent over an hour with his care. They got him stabilized and sent us home. They told us to go on our trip but how could we leave a sick child behind, so we stayed. This morning, Doctor Jan was on the phone at 6:30am with the test results from the lab. hero is suffering mild pancreatitis and will need some extra care. How many doctors let alone people, go that far above and beyond to care for someone else? I only wish I could go beyond 5 stars. I would go to the moon and back for these people.

My guinea pig…read moreSmoochie has been under their care since March, and throughout everything, they have been incredible. Earlier this year, I had to rush Smoochie to an emergency vet after hours because she was peeing blood. That clinic told me all her blood tests were bad and that she had kidney stones(they were able to remove). When Dr. Becker reviewed the records, she immediately noticed they had entered her as a dog instead of a guinea pig. She took the time to explain everything clearly and reassured me when I was overwhelmed with worry. Smoochie kept peeing blood whenever she wasn't on antibiotics and pain medication, so we decided together that the most compassionate option was to spay her. I knew Smoochie was in the very best hands, and Dr. Becker's kindness and skill made such a difference during that stressful time. Even after surgery, Smoochie continued having issues, and Dr. Becker came in on her day off to help with her care. That alone speaks volumes about her dedication. She walked me through every option with so much patience and never made me feel rushed or judged. Ultimately, we decided to focus on keeping Smoochie comfortable and managing her pain until her body is ready to let go, and Dr. Becker has continued to support me with compassion and honesty every step of the way. She came in on her off day once for an emergency and She has personally called me to talk through Smoochie's care plans, and that level of follow-up and empathy is something you don't find everywhere. I also want to mention the wonderful girl at the front I believe her name is Gabby, who has always been so kind and welcoming. She is the only person who has consistently called me back, helped me get squeezed in for urgent appointments, and made sure we were taken care of. They have made some of the hardest times as a pet parent feel easier and less lonely. I trust Dr. Becker completely and am so grateful for the care and compassion they have shown to both my guinea pigs.

This practice is run by down to earth, kind and most importantly highly competent and caring vets…read more They take the time to listen and really hear your concerns. The care our pets have received here for years is outstanding and at a reasonable price. A vet visit isn't always fun: new puppies and kittens, baby guinea pigs and ferrets' checkups, sure. But sometimes you're there with a very sick animal or an end of life visit, and this is where the caring and compassion means so much. Highly recommend.
