This was my first real German meal here and I gotta say it wasn't easy simply because nobody spoke English to us. After looking confused at the menu, the waitress brought me an English menu. Phew!!! I started off with the pancake soup. This was a good salty broth with lots of green onions and egg like pancake strips. The Asian in me desperately wanted a bowl of rice to mix into the soup! Only 3 euros and well worth it on a cold day. Bierstadels home made pan: two large pieces of thick pork seared perfectly! A cream mushroom sauce bathed in it. A large side of homemade spatzle (noodles) accompanied it. All in all, it was a good hearty dish but there was a strong, horseradish like flavor that I didn't like. Maybe other locals like this flavor but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I must say the pork was cooked perfectly! The Special: a softball size pork that seemed to be cooked in beer. Cooked to perfection! Again, beer in my pork is not my cup of tea, but my husband enjoyed it immensely. My kids chicken wings were super TASTY but there were only three wings :(. My daughters schnitzel was a good, large size with a great crunch but the middle was a bit soggy. Both came with great fries, slice of watermelon and my kids' fave, a lollipop! There's no ordinary water here, only sparking water with a small slice of lemon. There's a Biergarten outside so of course, a huge array of beer. There's no way to finish the meal on my plate, so they happily boxed up my meal. For us, service was ok... But I think the language barrier was the main reason for it. For all the other patrons who spoke German, it seemed like everyone was an old friend. They were however cordial and friendly. All in all... It was a 3.5 star experience but I'm feeling generous today. Their large portions definitely pushes it to 4 star range.

This place is cool. If you are looking for a modern/alternative/hipster/Berlin feeling coffee spot,…read moreyou have found it. This is one spot that I really enjoy going in and talking to the workers, getting a nice cappuccino and just enjoying the atmosphere. The cafe is very ...artistic inside. Lots of colors and lots of different decorations everywhere. It is extremely child friendly and there is one side of the cafe I believe that lots of mothers with their younger/newborns meet and have coffee often. When sitting in front of the Cafe you have a nice view with comfortable seating. This place is just simply cool and relaxing, I go there to chat with friends, have a nice piece of cake/pie, or even to read a book or bring my laptop and do some work. This place is solid,a prices are reasonable. The owners name is Sean, he is a super friendly guy and speaks great English. If you see him say hi :)

My grandsons ordered the same pancakes , but they brought two different kinds. When I complained, she called me a liar, Then they said they would get the right order, but we waited a half hour and nothing came. The gorgeous, rude clerk insulted me again. Was this because we are Jewish? Was she so unprofessional because we are Jewish?

Note: The only German I know is Danke and Bitte. But that did not take away from the amazing…read moreservice and incredible food here!!! I was on a trip to Stuttgart and staying in the SI-Spectrum area. I was able to walk here - so convenient! I'm literally writing this review from the table because it couldn't wait. The portion was enough for two meals, but it was so delicious that I couldn't stop!!! I tried. I couldn't! I ordered the German pancake filled with ham and white asparagus topped with hollandaise sauce. Did I mention I couldn't stop eating it??! And of course, a glass of red wine. And the service...the hostess was so warm and welcoming and presented me with a much-needed English menu. And the owner came to check on me throughout the meal. Adopt me please? Danke. I will definitely be back...like every night I have left on this trip because there were about 7 entrees I was trying to decide between...

Despite it's diminutive size though, they put out some good swabian food. The menu isn't terribly long, but they do have a decent list of daily specials, which we had success with. While they have copies of the menu itself in english, the daily specials will be verbally translated, not written down. The server's english on both visits was perfectly good, which is good since my German is extremely limited (schnitzel, brautwurst, currywurst, hefeweizen, and pils are about it). As far as food goes, the smoked salmon entree was a generous portion of smoked salmon, and the warm potato hash brown underneath it made it heartier than just a plate of smoked salmon. It seems like maultaschen is the best way to judge a swabian restaurant, so I went with that and was quite happy with it, although my favorite that I've had so far was at Gaststatte zum Paulaner in downtown. I also really appreciate that most of the meals here come with a side salad, and they dress it more with vinegar than with oil, so it feels more refreshing than most side salads in the US. The complementary plum brandy is a nice way to end the meal; whatever you do, don't shoot it (that would be rude), just sip and enjoy!
