Awesome spot, well worth checking out, especially if you're a tourist-it's something to talk anonymously when you get home! The bartender from another local bar told us to check this place out, and although it ended up being a little bit of a search mission, it was well worth the detour. When we arrived they asked if we had a reservation (Sat evening). We said no, and they said that was okay, they had seats downstairs. There's a prohibition like feel meets 1920s themed mental patient/witch doctor like vibe, making you want to instagram every little thing you see. We walked past the first floor, down some stairs to a little area with couch like seats and then down to the downstairs floor. Interesting bar with lots of unique contraptions in glass underneath the actual bar, as well as a giant stuffed lion with a bandage wrapped around his head. They had a fair impressive list of cocktails, but keep In mind, none of them were cheap. The waiter did also promise to make whatever drink we liked. I ended up going with the Pisco Sour and my gf had a random drink they made which she really liked. Definitely an awesome bar...reminds me of something great you would see in Brooklyn! There's a whole lot to say about this place... But if you just stop for a second, look at the menu, the walls around you, past the cabinet of curiosities chic, I think you'll start to realize, much like we did, that you're not in a craft cocktail bar, but rather in a Hendrick's Gin shill. The wife and I went to celebrate my birthday here, as this is one of the few cocktail bars we haven't been to in Brussels. The prices have always kind of kept me away, as well as some of the claims made by people in 1-star Google reviews. We decided we'd see it for ourselves. First off, being that we were dressed for a fancy birthday dinner, we had no issue at the door--you have to buzz to get in--but we've read it's not always this simple. I had made a reservation a couple weeks prior, and in the reservation, requested to sit at the bar. This was totally ignored and we were led to a subterranean floor. The decor was pretty interesting. The vibe they're going for is not hard to spot... Minus the copious amounts of Hendrick's Gin bottles... But we'll get to that. We were instructed to scan a QR code, and downloaded a menu named Summer 2020... It's Winter 2022... But okay. The menu is quite disappointing. They lead with a page of house rules... Which sets the pretentious tone, and what follows is a selection, well four, "House Cocktails." Usually there will be at least one or two cocktails I'm immediately drawn to on a house menu, but nothing here had my interest. Two of the cocktails only had one alcohol in them, which, I don't know, doesn't seem right for a list of house made cocktails that cost 16€ a cocktail. I elected to go with a scotch and carrot cocktail... I know, sounds delicious eh? Whereas the wife went with a gin based one. The drinks were so underwhelming. Silly over garnished garnishes, no depth of flavor, mine tasted like carrot juice. Not what I want. After we had finished our drinks I couldn't help but ask the waitress what the deal was with all the Hendrick's Gin promotion. I asked if they were a sponsor or if they owned the bar or something and and she replied that they're not a sponsor they just work with them sometimes and they "give us coasters and stuff." ...right. Keep in mind there's an entire menu of just Hendrick's Gin cocktails. Not a sponsor... c'mon. After a little looking online we clearly discovered that this place began as a Hendrick's Gin pop-up that evolved into what it is today. Reading this made it quite aware that where we were with some place that was more along the lines of premium mediocre as opposed to the impression they give off of high quality crafted cocktails. A huge disappoinment. The price is too high, the pretentiousness is also a bit much, and the cocktails themselves are incredibly underwhelming and not exciting. read more

Man, this place is just beautiful. The decor is amazing. The staff is energetic and ready to serve you with wild abandon. I also liked the hip vibe. It's a place where you come to relax, no matter what walk of life you are from. It's accepting of people. I ordered fancy drinks because that's my thing and I was not disappointed. I got these chips with something like bacon to accompany it. I felt bad as I was eating more than the rest of my party and it was a shareable. Check it out. Brussels isn't known for its cocktail scene but Pharmacie Anglaise is a lovely spot for inventive drinks as well as the classics. Housed in a lovely old building, the bar is filled with odd curiosities, stuffed animals, and all sorts of plants (and animals) in jars. There is a small bar which seats 4 people, and then seating in a couple rooms as well as upstairs. The menu is extremely creative - take mezcal, butternut squash and tofu(!) for example. I would never have thought of mixing the 3 but it works, as does eggplant with gin. The classics are also very well executed and balance. The bar's Old Fashioned uses both bourbon and a peaty scotch, while the Brooklyn was also well balanced. Definitely a nice surprise in Brussels and a place to go for cocktails. read more

This place was swanky! We really loved the strange and crazy decor. We came in early so we did not know it was a speakeasy bar that is hard to get into. I do believe they lock the door when its late, but you can also come in early evening and stay late. Anyways, they had all sorts of strange and cool cocktails. I think mine was called the cocobongo and it had some sort of leaf on it. The drinks here are pricey but we thought it was a cool spot to hang out and sip on some unique cocktails. read more

What an amazing bar. The inside and outside of this building are out of this world. When you enter you're welcomed into a cozy living room type area with balcony seating. The decorations are unique and quirky. There's a somewhat hidden Hallway that leads to other rooms and even another underground bar! read more

This place was so cool and unique! I mean REALLY kool. When we arrived we were greeted by a locked door and rang the bell. The host came to the door and asked us how many of us there were and if we would like to come in. (They let parties in one at a time and make you wait outside until there is room.) Actually we liked that safety feature. We also didn't have to wait long to be seated either. We were lead to the back through like a honey comb that had several distinct seating areas along the way. When we got to the back our seating area was like a little cave and oh my gosh! The decor was like you'd been taken back in time to the middle ages. We were seated in our "cave" around a coffee table. It had many chairs and a sofa that looked like they were designed long ago. The decor was surreal! As I had swollen ankles and a rash due to pesticides from our trip to the Tomorrowland Festival the day before I rested my leg on a chair because it hurt. One of our servers asked me, because it was wet and rainy outside, to please put my leg down. He then proceeded to bring me my own foot stool and said, "there, you can rest your feet on that". Amazing, huh? He then brought us the drink menu and all I can say is wow! So many choices! We all ordered different things and shared a taste of our drinks with each other. That prompted us to order a second round of even more choices. The drinks were so exotic, professionally done and served in so many different styles with so many unique presentations, (see pics). The interior - done up like an old English Pharmacy - and the atmosphere are fantastic, as are the cocktails. I got a white Negroni, and my wife got a Chai Manhattan, which were both first rate. We got there at 6pm on a Saturday and it was packed, so it's probably wise to reserve in advance. read more

Very but very spoiled place. This experience tells you why you shouldn't go to this bar. Don't fall to their fancy branding, calling themselves "welcoming" on internet. The reality is the following. First of all they keep their door locked and you have to wait until one of the staff members notice the bell rings and opens the door. You may keep waiting outside yes very welcoming. Staff members aggressive, rude and disoriented. They are seating you somewhere you specifically asked and ordered your drink then they come and ask you to move somewhere else they want. When you don't accept they are getting aggressive, shouting at clients and forcing them to leave. This is not a place to make people good memories but spoiled place. They are just abusive with poor service overly priced drinks. Don't go to this place if you aren't someone who enjoys buying bad service with a high price tag. read more

Got seduced by the branding and decided to reserve for 6 people. Once we ordered drinks, another friend texted if he could join. We said it was ok, as there was still space next to us where we were sat, in a very small corner that could have hardly fit somebody outside our group. When our friend arrived, we moved a chair, which caused the hostess to literally flip, telling us on a very aggressive tone that the reservation limit is 6 (nobody had mentioned this during the 3 phone conversation i had with them to reserve) and that because of this we will not be allowed to ever reserve in the bar again - all before our drinks even arrived. We got up and left to a more welcoming place that at least has enough respect for customers to communicate the rules politely. Reading replies from the business online, I see this is their business policy & attitude (inflexible, elitist) so if you decide to go, prepare to face a "greater than thou" attitude. read more

Reserved for a group of 6. A 7th person decided to join us last minute. When this person showed up, the server informed us in a very rude way that we only booked for 6, not 7 and that they will never again take a reservation in our name. Even though we were at a corner table, we were able to fit all 7 of us with no issues. There was also no way to fit other customers there. The server's attitude only got worse when asked for clarifications. But it seems they prefer to lose customers than to offer a polite service. We walked out and will never go back again. read more
