Dr. Lugo is the only doctor I've had so far so I can't compare to others. One time I was sick with a cold and he was very hesitant in prescribing any antibiotics. He thought it's better if I let my immune system take over and get better on my own. There is pros and cons on that but we won't get into it in this review. Most of the time it's hard for me to get an appointment to be seen right away. I usually have to call a month ahead to get an appointment. Recently I had a horrible experience with my medication and the doctor was not available to approve the renewal for my prescription. I had to call the doctor on call... and the whole ordeal has left me very disappointed with the office so that's why I only rated 3 stars. The office is nice and clean. I've had issues with the billing in the past. Dr. Lugo has taken care of some warts on my foot (Is that an over-share?). In general he's very thorough and takes time to ask you about your health and talk to you about your medications. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lugo since they established their office in Folsom about 10 years ago... What can I not say about him? We love Dr. Lugo. We have never been disappointed with the staff or level of care we receive each time we come in. We have referred him to many many friends and family. I had to find a new primary care doc after my previous one stopped her family care practice and went to work at Sacramento Heart. My husband had seen Dr. Lugo a few times in the past, and since we were moving to Folsom, I figured we should bite the bullet and find a local doctor. (We had been going to Marshall doctors for years in Placerville.) Dr. Lugo is very thorough, and very precise. His practice is with Sutter, and they have everything on the computer, plus they allow you to set up a passcode so you can view your medical file. I really like how they have this set up, because the doctors and nurses can easily and correctly record and read everything, and it reduces the chance of error due to a lost form or sloppy handwriting, and you can see all test results right away. He reviews prior visits with you first thing to follow up, and is careful with taking notes. He did refer me to a specialist once for a confirmation of his diagnosis, because he wanted the opinion of an expert in that particular area, so he could be doubly sure before giving me medication. He is VERY careful about prescribing medication, asking you details about your past med history, to make sure that he is giving you the right drug for the problem, and not just the current designer drug. Dr. Lugo looks for the most obvious answer instead of sending you for tons of expensive tests that you probably don't need. I've had doctors in the past who would pass me off to specialists and request all sorts of crazy medical scans and tests, only to give me a diagnosis of "take more vitamins" or something dumb like that which made me think most practices are just trying to get money out of you and your insurance company. He also is very knowledgable about the insurance companies, and will go over medications with you, letting you know how much it may cost you for different versions of the same drug, their side effects, effectiveness at treating the issue, and then asking for your opinion on what YOU think would work best, before he writes out a scrip. On one visit I had a bad cough, and he asked me if I'd ever had any respiratory problems in the past-( I did have a viral infections in my lungs years before). So he affirmed with me that I remembered the symptoms and wrote me a scrip for antibiotics if my cough worsened, so I would have immediate relief without having to wait for another appointment. I went to see Doctor Phil office for general flu condition, I was put to be seen by asstt physician. Part of the flu diagnosis (typical body ache and throat condition - nothing serious). Doctor recommened to do ear cleaning. The whole consultation from doctor was for 5-10 mins, nothing serious sickness. When I got a bill it was 477$. I was amazed and upset... Details of bill - doctor visit $305 (for normal flu visit, even specialist does not charge that much), ear cleaning ($172.00) by a nurse for one ear which you can do yourself for less than 10$. I called office multiple times, no response. Everytime I speak to front desk they give different response. What a rip off, I made a huge mistake seeing this doctor. It seems they set you up and rip you off on bill once you visit.. I would highly recommed to STAY AWAY FROM THIS DOCTOR!!!! read more

I have had serious medical issues all my life, since birth...so I've seen a lot of dotors and doctor Lugo easily rates in the top 2%!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I have had the same issues with getting to see him on the same day. It seems they used to have some "same-day appts" set aside. so if you called early in the am you could get in-but this system seems to have stopped. Anyway, why is he so good? COMMUNICATION! He LISTENS to you, usually without interupting or rushing you-and makes sure he understands your needs before taking action or moving on. PERSONALISED SERVICE!! Although he almost always has a wait-he always makes you feel like you are his only patient! One time I was taking quite a bit of his time, when he was already behind-I commented that I should hurry and he said "aw, let them wait" It made me feel like I was his favorite-or only patient-although of course I know he would have said that to any patient he was with, and I'M the one who would have been waiting, which is fine. I always say, I don't mind waiting hours for a doctor-as long I don't get rushed when it's my turn!! ! DEDICATION FROM A CARING HEART! One time he came in on a weekend to give me shots so that I wouldn't have to go in the hospital to get treatment! NOW, this was an extremely serious situation-I was going off the next week to Johns Hopkins for a very complicated 12 hour surgery surgery-so it was very important for me to get the right treatment-I don't want to start a rumor (or set expectations) that he comes in on weekends, but when the chips are down, he's there for you! TRUSTWORTHY & ALWAYS TRIES TO DO WHAT' BEST! There have been some touchy issues that we've had to work through-and through all of it, I knew I could trust him to do/recommend what is truly best for me-rather thatn what's easy or profitable for him or Sutter. WHOLISTIC APPROACH: He often brings up or inquires about extenuating circumstances, such as stress at home, work, etc. ...asks about family issues, safety, living environment, exercise routines, etc. He knows (AND CARES) aout you as a whole-not just a bunch of test results.... HE IS CONNECTED TO GOD! I don't know if most care about this, but to me it what give's him a servant's heart-he doesn't have the doctor's ego issue (He KNOWS we're not in control and he can't fix everythng...but with God's help, everything is ok!) Sorry for the long review, but I want everyone to know he is wonderful-the only downside is getting to see him whie you are actually sick!! That's not his fault, though. I think that's more a function of Sutter pushing to many patients on him. It must be hard to be such a fine doctor and to work within the beuracracy of Sutter-not being able to give as much as he would like to each patient. I've been seeing Dr. Lugo for approx. 5 years now. Great doctor! Takes the time to listen to you. His assistants are very friendly and also take an interest in you as a person. I highly recommend Dr. Lugo and his medical care team to those of you looking for a great team of medical professionals. I've referred many of my family members and friends to Dr. Lugo and they all have said the same thing, amazing Dr and staff. My needs are always met and any question has always been answered in layman's words so I understand my issues. I use 'My Health Online,' and I've never had to wait longer than a 24 hour period for a response for an inquiry I've made. And I like being able to see my after visit comments and test results online. All of the staff here are as knowledgeable and compassionate as Dr. Lugo, Petra and Anne Priest. It's a good feeling to leave an appt and feel good about the appt. and I've never felt rushed by any of them, no matter how busy they are. I don't often recommend people but after being a patient for 2 years now, I feel it's appropriate to recommend this office to those of you seeking top notch medical help.
