I enjoy shooting at this indoor range. Parking is hard to find. They have guns and gun stuff for sale. They provide eyes and ears. Staff upstairs in the shooting area are very helpful. When I first started shooting there they gave me some good tips and I always see them helping others perfect their aim. We spend about an hour or so on a weekend, shoot a couple boxes of range ammo then go get tacos from south Philly barbacoa on the corner. 4 stars cuz u need to make an appointment also not many people allowed in the store at once so you could be waiting outside for a while before u get in. Safety First!!!

Today was a milestone for me because I did something I've had on the checklist for many years. I shot a gun (safely and legally here, of course). And yes, I realize that shooting is not for everyone, and if that someone is you, then you don't have to read my review. But thanks for stopping by Yelp anyway :) But if you're even a little bit curious about going to a shooting range, or you're a seasoned pro, I highly recommend you check out the Philadelphia Archery & Gun Club. I went with a friend of mine who is a gun owner and has been there before and another friend who, like me, was a first timer. From the moment we walked in the door the staff was friendly and professional. Admittedly, I was a little weirded out by all the gun stuff, but hey, I WAS in a shooting range, so I knew I'd be seeing firearms. My friend and I signed a waver, we all three showed our licences, and then went upstairs to the range. It is a very safe facility and you have to go through multiple doors to end up in the shooting range itself. Once upstairs, we were given earphones, safety glasses, a target and oh, yeah, bullets. Gulp. This was the real deal. I was actually going to shoot a gun. I think I got a little sweaty and my industrial goggles actually fogged up. We went through another 2 sets of doors and then there we were, gun, bullets and all. After a lesson on loading it and proper etiquette (bottom line - don't point it at people and don't be a spazz) I stepped up to give it a try. First things first - if you've never shot a gun or heard one before (like me) it's extremely surprising how damn loud it is (ohh, THAT'S why you wear earphones). And the kickback on the gun (I was shooting a Glock) was unexpected, too. Oh yeah, be prepared for shells to fly, which takes a little getting used to. The first shot was really, really scary. The second, a little less so. And by the third, well, I was totally into it. I emptied one clip and my friend took her turn (hopefully she will Yelp about it, too). And then I had one last try before I had to get back to my regularly scheduled life. My grand finale involved emptying a round into the target of a 70's dude who looked a little like Ron Jeramy. It was crazily satisfying and I left feeling very empowered. And, believe it or not, I was actually pretty good at it. There was an instructor (Bobby) who was on hand to answer our questions and show us proper positioning so we didn't slice our thumbs off. And the fee that we paid when we left was incredibly reasonable for 20 minutes of feeling like a badass. I'm never going to own a gun and I'm not interested in ever shooting anything outside the walls of a shooting range. But I am almost certain that I'll be back, because this was an experience unlike anything else I've ever done before.

Great location. A bit expensive, and I wish they would rent full auto SMG's (or any firearm for that matter).

I used to be a big fan of The Gun Range because of their friendly staff and their policy allowing outside ammo. As someone who buys in bulk from Cheaper Than Dirt, being able to bring my own rounds makes this hobby much more affordable. Unfortunately, my last visit with my son was a major disappointment: Shotgun Ammo Price Gouging: We brought a new Boss 25 to break in, only to be told we could no longer use outside shotgun ammo. They quoted me $48 for a box of 25 shells. For context, I buy 250 shells online for $86. That is a massive markup. Misleading Safety Claims: When I questioned the policy change, the manager claimed it was due to a fire caused by "faulty shotgun ammo" at another range. I looked this up while waiting; the fire she referenced was actually attributed to faulty air filtration, not ammo. Poor Customer Service: We bought two targets but only ended up using one. When I tried to return the unused, unrolled target, I was told it was "unreturnable" because it was rolled up--despite the fact that the clerk was the one who rolled it when selling it to us. A private business has every right to change its policies, but they should be honest about it. Don't hide behind safety excuses to justify inflated prices. They've lost my business and my trust.

I saw them interacting with people that were clearly first time shooters and they seemed very nice and helpful. As someone that was clearly experienced, they didn't ask me a lot of questions, and just gave me the information on their range protocol and I was good to go. I went on a weekend and it does get busy. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a lane, which really isn't that bad. I appreciated the fact that you can bring your own ammo with a few restrictions such as in rounds, tracer, steel, core, etc. Nothing too over-the-top, and all very reasonable. I did not buy any ammo there, so I can't comment on the prices. The range rental fees are for as long as you like to shoot, which is very nice. They have a number of handguns and long guns for rent, the only restriction there is you must use their ammo and you must have at least two people... For some reason, they will not rent a firearm to single shooters. The shooting positions are a little narrow, but are absolutely fine for two people. There is not much room behind each position, especially if there are many people on the range, so keep that in mind. It is good to note that since they allow a wide range of calibers, you may find yourself on a line with people shooting long rifles and large caliber handguns. If you're a first time shooter, or don't like it crowded, I would strongly recommend going during the week. They have extended hours until 9 PM every day, but Sunday, which is great. The Saturday that we went the range was completely full, and some shooters were shooting large caliber rifles, as well as a few people had full auto or maybe they rented them. It's definitely a little overwhelming if you're not prepared for it!

My brother heard about this new range online and offered to teach me while he visited over the holidays. We were greeted almost immediately, and as first time guests, we were directed to the laptops along the wall to sign digital waivers and watch a safety instruction video. Once signed in, the info was sent our emails. The waivers are good for a year in case we decide to come back. Everyone was very professional and warm for the most part. As I had never held or used a gun before, and I have small hands, the person who helped us suggested using a smaller caliber handgun (I think it was a Sig Sauer P322 chambered in .22lr). The RSO that day was really nice and helped us out right away when it jammed. Later on, we rented a Sig Sauer P320 chambered in 9mm that felt a lot better. The 9mm felt more solid in general, even with a little more recoil. I also had better accuracy with it too. Even though there were less rounds for it, I personally believe it was the better bang for the buck, so to speak. If you're renting guns, you need to bring a buddy along. There's a 2 person policy for that, unless you're bringing your own equipment. Not sure if you can bring your own ammo too, but if not, you can purchase ammo at the front desk. You can't miss it. In our experience, someone was always around to help or answer questions if needed. Ear and eye protection cannot by rented, so either bring your own or buy some at the front before you go in. Ammo is also pretty expensive here, as is the overall cost to use the range, but I personally think it's worth it. The facilities felt safe, clean, and welcoming. Really appreciated the sinks in the large room before you enter the range where there was lead-cleaning soap available. Just make sure you keep ear protection on while you're in that room as the door to the range opens suddenly sometimes as people come and go. Classes and membership packages are offered too, which I'm considering. Like archery, it can get pretty zen in there finding your focus. Just gotta save up time and money for it like any other sport or hobby. I'd look forward to going back for more practice and getting more familiar with the range.
