This place screwed up our taxes two years in a row...cost us thousands of dollars. Worst place EVER! Run away from them as fast as you can!

READ THIS!!! STAY AWAY, at the VERY LEAST, FROM THEIR STURGIS OFFICE in 2026!!!!! They have done our personal & business taxes for several years. I walked in yesterday, doors open but entire front area dark. Stood there waiting, and finally a man came out in jeans and hoodie. Didn't identify himself; I HAD TO ASK who he was. He just stood there after he told me his name but not what he does/role in the company. He didn't ask why I was there. I had to spoon-feed every thing to him. I asked where everyone was and he said "They all quit so we starting over." (The missing word is NOT a typo!). I told him i was coming to drop off my tax package. Nothing. I handed him the packet and he says nothing. Getting uncomfortable, so I ask him if he is a CPA; no and told me he was something that I couldn't understand. Asked him where he went to school; then he told me he could prepare taxes but had only passed the first part of the CPA test. I asked for HIS business card, he rifled through the entire DARK front office and said he didn't know where they were. I asked about the client retention letter I normally sign. He knew nothing about that. I initially left my file (there was someone else's sitting unsecured on the counter), but went out to call their Elkhart office. I told the receptionist how concerned I was and she said, "Well, I don't know why he dresses that way;" "Ya, we're working on that office;" "Ya, I don't know what to tell you.". When I told her she wasn't instilling any confidence in me, she said nothing! So I asked to talk to Dan Phillips, owner; she put me on hold and never came back! I went back into the office to retrieve my file and, again, no one up front and there WAS MY FILE WITH ALL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION right up front at the desk, accessible to anyone walking in off the street!!! The "employee" came up front and I told him I came to get my documents back and he tried to tell me, from what I could understand, that he could do my taxes and could even support me in front of the IRS (???), but I insisted I wanted everything back. After I left, I called and only got the voicemail for the Elkhart office, leaving a message for Dan who never called me back. No surprise. STAY AWAY!!!!!!! read more

If I could give this practice less then one star I would. My husband was given incorrect information by a receptionist after Dan would not return his call. This ended up costing us a $1300 tax penalty from the IRS as we were told they had filed our extension and they had not. He will not accept any responsibility and places the blame on us. We had our taxes done by Phillip's and Co for tax years 2015 and 2016 by a former employee Dan continued to call a crook, thief and liar that he had purchased the firm from. He was very rude on the phone ending the call by saying " Apparently you are a little behind on the thought process so we will go ahead and end this call".
