This was not like going to a beautician school for a cheap haircut. I will say the masseuse area is in an open space, having separated spots with a set-up of tasteful blinds. After all, it is a school, so people who are looking for hotel spa treatment might not care for their arrangement. The students who gave us the massages were fantastic! We both tried to tip them, because they scored an A+++ on our massage meters, but they respectfully said no, as students they were in training. I don't even want to tell you how affordable it was. This is a great option for people to enjoy, and according to my daughter, a well known secret to South Hill residents.

I am a former student. There is a Christian church across the street that regularly posted flyers…read morearound the perimeter of the building and even held prayer events on the school campus. I am not Christian and the presence of the church on campus affected me negatively. For my senior project I wrote a 10 page research paper on how religion should not be promoted by publicly funded institutions. I would then present my paper and project to a group of volunteers who would trade me. Well that group of volunteers consisted wholely of church members from across the street. I altered trusted teachers of this conflict of interest and of my discomfort with Christian propaganda being posted around the school and I was ignored. I was given a lesser grade on my project due to bias. I was also in several choir classes, lettered in choir, and was selected to participate in Idaho All State Choir. But again, 90% of the songs were heavily Christian songs. I suggested broadening the selection to include songs from other religions during the holiday season and even brought in sheet music, but again I was ignored. Singing lyrics such as "praise the Lord" for years on end when I was not religious weighed on me and eventually led to me quitting even though it was my greatest passion.

As an old estate chopped up into offices and classrooms, there's some difficulty getting around and the air conditioning situation feels a bit cobbled together. I don't mind this aspect, but if your kid absolutely does not do well in heat you may want to tour and inquire before sending them here. Staff are pretty good and range from middle-aged grissled veterans to doe-eyed teenagers full of good intentions if not practical experience. In any case, they did a good job with my kid and I wouldn't hesitate to send him back next summer. People were kind and enthusiastic. The grounds are probably the most remarkable feature IMO and a huge bonus. There's a stone castle in the back, secret paths, and secluded yawning gardens with a pond up the hill. If nothing else, I'd come back to simply walk the trails and roam the gardens. Speaking of trails, the surrounding area is... ahem... "multi-use" shall we say so just be forewarned that the more secluded and wooded it gets, the more likely you are to come across an active or abandoned hobo camp. I found a beautiful pair of high heel shoes and a single cowboy boot hunting for berries! It was... interesting... trying to explain to my kids how they may have gotten lost back there. Overall a wonderful place and the grounds are rich in both history and natural charm.

If you are looking for a party campus you are not going to find alot here. That being said if you want to go to some parties you can seek them out if you want to. Though the school does have Christian values and I would say is a Christian school it does not try and force it on its students which I appreciate. If you want to seek the Christian religion you can if you don't most people will respect you and treat you the same. No chapel Is required, but there are various Christian events throughout the week. You do have to take one Bible class here if you want to graduate. The teaching is excellent though sometimes you get a bad professor or one that you just don't click with. But I feel like it is that way with most schools. The professors try to make themselves available to you. And genuinely want to help you. They are professors first and not just researchers which means they will actually teach. Never in my classes have I had a TA teach the whole class.Whitworth also has this thing called Jan term where you take 1 class over the month of January. This is a great way to get Gen Eds out of the way. Student life is good. Most RAs are not out to get you in trouble and actually want to have a relationship with you. The University adheres to the Big 3 (which are the main rules) no alcohol or drugs, no cohabitation, and no disturbing the peace. If you follow these rules you should be ok. And if you want to do theese things just do them off campus. The nicer resident halls are Oliver, Duvall, and Boppell. The other ones are older, but still have great communities. Really it is you who can make or break your experience. Finally the campus is most beautiful in early fall and late spring. (When school starts and when school ends) you will see people out and about in the loop, throwing a frisbee. In the winter it gets incredibly cold and snowy. If you don't like snow don' t go here. But the campus does turn into a nice winter wonderland from November to January. Overall this place has great academics and you get out what you put in. Also they tend to give great financial aid packages.

The subject matter was a tad dry, as in Death Valley dry..however Ryan got us thru a long day. That evening I got a call from him reference paper work for the cert I needed. He walked me thru the procedure for logging my training and then he did it all for me..Thank you Ryan!!! This operation is good to go.
