The roll I thought was a bit chewy. Next came the Satay Beef ($12) which totally flavored the Pho. It was the best Pho I ever had but mind you I am no expert. They have a strange business model in that a small bowl is $11 and a large bowl is $12. It came out piping hot. I had to let it sit, as well as, blow on the broth to cool it down. The staff was tri-lingual. Imagine that! The food came out quick. It seems a lot of locals dine here. The restaurant is located in Chinatown. The street entrance is below ground level. Nothing stood out about the broth, but it was pretty spice-forward and still very much hit the spot. They surprisingly loaded up on the meat; I've never had this much meat in my bowl of pho at any other restaurants. The noodles were also cooked perfectly! Realistically I probably wouldn't come back here as often if my other usual spots were open, but I'm especially grateful they were welcoming during holiday hours. But briefly, we got a spring roll (I think it was the sprimp and chicken), a chicken dish (I think we got the half chicken), a pho dish and the grilled chicken and shrimp with salad and vermicelli. The spring rolls were good. Very crunchy wrapping, mixed with a fusion of veges, protein and vermicelli. The half chicken was my least favorite dish. I think it's an acquired taste, but the meat was tough to chew and the sauce was a quite tart. Combining all the factors mentioned above, it was a bit difficult to eat. The pho was good. The soup brough was warm, hearty and filling. The noodles were good too - very soft and easy to eat. The vermicelli dish was also good. Very standard protein and vege vermicelli dish. The chicken was tender and shrimp was grilled to perfection. Not a bad choice for Vietnamese cuisine in Montreal.

Having lived close to San Jose, CA (large Viet population with lots of specialty restos) and currently from just outside Toronto, where we have an array of authentic Viet restos, this place rates near the top in comparison to Viet restos we have been to, even in Montreal. My absolute favorites were the spicy beef tataki salad and the pork buns (you could see both in my pictures), and I'll most likely order both next time I go. I also liked the shiso leaf appetizer and the pork imperial rolls, but I wasn't as crazy about them. The service was great too. All of the things our waitress suggested we liked. My only critique is the price. For the price that you pay, I find the portions to be small and it is very easy to rack up a big bill, especially if you are hungry. I would have easily rated this restaurant 5 stars if the prices were a little cheaper or the portions a little bigger.
