This was hands-down the worst hospital experience I have ever seen. They just treated and streeted my mother-in-law, who should not have been discharged so soon (less than 24 hours) after surgery. They ignored her pain and swelling, refused to help with her shoes, or even with toileting, so that she returned home with soiled clothes. We contacted a patient advocate and tried to ask for short term rehab, in order to restore her strength and confidence, to no avail. Her nurse was in tears, telling us this is not a safe discharge. Even the person pushing her wheelchair out said they aren't allowed to push out someone who can't stand on their own - but they did. My dad was there for a few days. We just got home today. I fully believe he received great care and the nursing staff was phenomenal. Every single person I encountered at that hospital was very kind ... from the people cleaning to workers waiting for their food orders in the cafeteria. I wrote a review on this hospital late last year regarding a horrible experience with my mom. All kinds of excuses made, particularly concerning one of the traveling nurses attending to my mother - simply incompetent/seemingly uncaring. My mom's stay last year was the result of an emergency room visit that necessitated a week's stay in the hospital. This time, the hospital stay was due to a procedure and the ONLY reason we allowed mom to go back to this place was due to the confidence/trust we have in the doctor who was performing the procedure; he assured us that the staff on the 4th floor were a good bunch of folks. Not sure why there is an obvious difference in care from the 7th floor that my mom was on last year, and the 4th floor that she was on this time, but the care and the attentiveness were much, much better. Though there were some times when we had to contact the nurses' station multiple times to get a reply, it was not a gigantic deal, specifically because I was in the room with my mother and was able to help (of note, we would not have allowed her to be in the hospital without someone staying there with her, specifically after the last incident). When you have a loved one in the hospital, be sure to keep an eye out, stay in touch. I have so much admiration for the good/caring doctors and nurses who are on the frontline and dedicate their lives to helping patients and treating them with kindness, respect, and dignity. I have no patience whatsoever for those who treat their patients otherwise. Of note, there is a lot of talk at times about the hospital food, but the food in the cafeteria is decent! I went to the Emergency Centér or Emergency Room on December 29, I was having very sharp pains on my Side and my back, it started around 4 or 5 days prior. I was there from about 9:30 pm until 6am the next day Had X-rays and a Cat Scan also blood work and Urine.. My blood work was ok and the Cat scan did show a cyst on one of my Kidneys. But they didn't know what was calling my pain. The told me to follow up with my Dr., but if it gets worse come back. It Did get worse, so I went back. They did X-rays again, but this time I didn't get to see a Dr. They tech called me into a room to tell me that my X-ray didn't show anything, of course it didn't, I didn't break anything. But she said that they were getting the people out that didn't have anything wrong with them, SMH, she said go home and take the Naproxen that was prescribed. I wouldn't havé come there if the Naproxen was helping. So I was told to go back to the waiting area and they would send me home. I never saw a Dr., the tech was not qualified to diagnose me, and all the Dr did was ask questions, she didn't even touch me to see where the pain was. Bottom line is , I was dismissed by a tech. I was treated horribly and it was hurtful and embarrassing. They made light of my condition and sent me home like child. I was humiliated and in pain. What a horrible place. I already scheduled an appointment with my primary Dr and if when they find out what's really wrong, I will see that horrible hospital in court. They need to treat people with dignity and respect. I received no explanation or apologies from staff. A few people had mentioned their concerns about Phoebe Albany cardiology to me, which I disregarded. My husband is working in Albany my Indiana and had a bad accident. He was taken to Phoebe's ER. I was so worried about him and his condition. Especially since I was in Indiana and knew nothing of the hospital or the kind of care he would get. He was admitted to the CCU and I arrived the same day of his accident. I just want to say how thankful I am for the great care that he received during his stay. From his doctor Dr.Black to the nurse Shakema and Darquez he couldn't have been in better care. Every medical personnel wether it was a blood draw, X-ray, MRI was well trained and very knowledgeable. When he was moved to the 3rd floor he was given good care and thank you Jennifer. How does a patient get discharged from ANY HOSPITAL without the families notification?????? No excuses, yall suck!!!!! Sister was in CCU with post Covid-19 complication and eventually put on a regular floor. (Spent 7 weeks in Piedmont Hospital Atlanta with Covid-19 before being discharged for only 4 days before being admitted to this hell hole!) She lives in assisted living and she was discharged yesterday and sent back to assisted living without ANY NOTIFICATION from the hospital. In fact, my nephew, her son, had not heard anything from nurse or doctor in a few days so HE called today to find out she was discharged yesterday. I hope to God if I am ever in Albany that I will never need any emergency care etc. I would not even want a slug (yes the disgusting slug) get care at this ridiculous excuse for a hospital. My best friends 80 year old mother fell Saturday evening and broke her hip, which resulted in her being admitted to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. She had a partial hip replacement on Sunday morning, she was taken into surgery earlier than the scheduled time, her daughter was not informed of this so she could be there with her mother before surgery. My friend arrived at the hospital after her mother had been taken to surgery, as she was waiting in the surgical waiting area, she was approached by a nurse that rudely informed her that the waiting area was not open on Sundays because no surgeries were scheduled on Sundays. She asked the nurse where she was supposed to wait while her mother was in surgery, the nurse informed her that she could wait in her mothers room or she could go outside and wait for the 2 hours the surgery was expected to take. None of the family members nor her mother have seen or spoken to the doctor that is treating her. My friend was informed about an hour ago that her mother would be discharged in about 2 hours, today. She has not had the chance to arrange to have a metal wheelchair ramp installed at the house or had the chance to have a hospital bed delivered for her mother. The blatant lack of communication between doctor, patient and family members has been totally unnecessary as well as unacceptable. In order for this hospital to be recommended by me to anyone in my family or anyone close to me I definitely see that the communication between doctors and patients needed to be addressed. Also the nurses need to be shown how to show respect to patients family members during a stressful time such as surgery. For the reasons listed in this review Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital definitely gets a bad review from me. Absolutely wonderful. The staff kept us informed every step of the way. It was the best experience we have had all year. Dr. Payne was great! When my granddaughter was born here in December 2018 they treated my son and his significant other like they were scum My granddaughters was born very small and they would not even allow my son to ring the bell that she had been born for three days because the staff was sure my granddaughter would die. One of the nurses on duty told my son that his significant other should have aborted that baby. Now here we are 16 months later my granddaughter has survived open heart surgery where she went home FOUR DAYS after her procedure in Atlanta, and is now trying desperately to walk. My mom was admitted with the flu. Her blood oxygen level was low and they could not get it up and keep it up. My mom was a mouth breather... the nasal delivery of oxygen wasn't working. I asked them for one that covered her mouth too... they said they didn't have anything like that. And they were constantly trying to get me to take my mom home from the hospital as they are concerned about numbers. Too many people die there. And my mom died too. I can promise you, this is not a good hospital. They have a monopoly in our area and we have no choice. Actually, I refused to be admitted there myself when I had pneumonia before my mom died. I have better chances of living at home. And this is a choice each of us here are having to make. We know our chances are not good in this hospital. Pray for everyone living in southwest Georgia. Trust me when I say this is the most horrible hospital in the world, I've never been to any hospital like this, I came in on saturday around 8pm, did not get seen til 12 at night to have blood drawn to have have to go back out in the waiting room again to wait to have a ct scan and ultra sound done, I was told i could wait another hour or two, there was total of 5 ppl here, I also watch a man cry out for help and be uncontrolled by the pain he was in to have no one check in on him, I will be filing suit also video footage that was recorded, i left because they had me here for 4hrs plus to have one patient get called every 2hours. I have to give these guys five stars. They saved my father's life after he suffered his third heart attack. After this heart attack he had to go through quadruple bypass surgery and these folks did a successful job. It hurts me to my heart that again I wasn't able to fly home to lend my moral support due to situations that are far beyond my control, but he told me not to worry too much about it and focus what I need to do. My father told me that he's going to check into rehab after decades of abusing drugs and I couldn't be any more excited. Even though he was in and out of my life for most of my childhood I still love the guy. And I am very grateful of the staff at Phoebe Putney for once again saving my father's life. read more

If I could do less than 1 Star I would. This hospital is ridiculous! I went because my blood pressure had shot up extremely and my arm was feeling numb on my right side. They drew my blood, did a chest X-ray and did an ekg but, didn't tell me why so I was sitting there for hours thinking something was really wrong‍They gave me an IV to get my bp down so I sat there for 11hrs before it came down(WOW) to which they then sent me on my merry way. I called the referral number they gave me which turned out to be just another number to the hospital LOL So I called the ER to see if maybe they could provide the correct number and was told by someone with an attitude that they "give out several referrals depending on the diagnosis"(obviously she missed me saying what I was in for or the referred Dr. name on my paperwork). I asked to speak to someone possibly more helpful and was was placed on hold about 5mins until another lady answered then told me she couldn't find me by name or birthday‍ She then left me on hold for 40mins during which time Phoebe called to do a 10min survey. Once I was done with the survey and clicked back over....I WAS STILL ON HOLD WITH THE ER, so I hung up. I was on the phone for over an hour but, only spoke to someone for a total of maybe 5mins if I'm being generous. My mom got admitted into the ER today and she sat in ER waiting on the Cardiologist to come check her out for having fluid around her heart/lungs and nobody even told the Cardiologist she was even there..!!! She waited 8 hours to hear that. Then the Nurse tried to give her a Z-Pak and my mom informed her that she could NOT take that medication with her others...! I heard on the news tonight than Phoebe has now put a doctor in place to specifically cover infectious diseases. How nice it would have been to have this procedure in place in 2013 when I contracted a staph infection during spinal surgery. All this did was require 2 additional surgeries and 4 months in a nursing home to try to learn how to walk again. Oh yeah! it forced me to retire from a job I held for 19 years. Now I can no longer walk or stand for any significant length or time. I am mostly confined to a wheelchair. and if I need to go grocery shopping I have to use an electric shopping cart. And that is if there is one available. Yes, Phoebe is the Hospital With A Heart! I will never use Phoebe again unless it is an emergency and even then I will consider whatever other options may be available. read more

When I was born in this hospital back in the 70's, I heard it was a horrible place to have a baby. The nurses treated you like crap and everything. but that was back then. this past week my grandfather was admitted for mental reasons. my grandmother wanted to be by his side the entire time he was it made it there and they accommodated her. my only gripe is they fed my grandfather but not my grandmother. The #1 worst ER in the United States! On Oct. 22, 2018 I went to the ER on advice of local EMS. My heart rate was 135 beats per minute and short of oxygen. EMT's did something similar to an EKG which showed I was in A fib. EMT's called the ER and told them I was on the way there. I arrived at 11:50 PM. I was called back to a room around 12:30 AM for labs, EKG and chest x-ray then escorted back to waiting area (not given a wheel chair, had to walk). There I waited until 2:10 AM and left without being seen. Upon arriving home, there was a message from the ER for me to come back I needed further tests due to abnormal labs. I called back and told them I wasn't coming back to the ER and would call my DR. , which was a mistake. I called Dr. Jones' office early (9:00) to get instructions on what to do. I was told the nurse would get back with me. I waited all day, no call. Morning of the 24th I called Dr. Jones' office again to inquire why I wasn't called. Was told Dr. Jones didn't get his messages in time to call, to late in the day but I could come in Thursday the 25th at 3:00 for an appointment. I did not bother to go, figured it would be a waste of my time and be told that everybody's heart did that like I have been told for two years. Oct. 28. 2018 My heart went into A fib again (4:00 PM) This time I went to the ER in Americus. The best decision I've ever made. within five minutes I was in a room, Dr. was there, labs were drawn, hooked up to EKG, chest x-ray, two IV's going. With in thirty minutes I was in CCU. Stayed there four nights then moved to a room. Developed heart failure, had heart shocked two times to get back into rhythm but was not successful. I stayed five more days then released. I highly recommend this hospital. The nurses, food service, house keeping, therapist and Dr.'s were always smiling, greeted you when entering your room, prompt to answer your call. The eight days I was a patient there, I did not encounter a grumpy, unfriendly non smiling face. I felt as though I was on a different planet. My father had a 5 hour heart surgery on 3/9/21. The surgeon who did his surgery never prescribed any pain medication for him, so his nurse had to request a prescription. He was at an 8 on the pain scale for over an hour and a half before she finally brought him 2.5 MG of Dilaudid. An hour after that, his pain had not lessened at all, so he asked for more. 4 hours later and 3 calls to the nurses station, they finally brought him 2MG of Morphine, which is 8X LESS POTANT than Dilaudid. Over an hour later, his pain still had not diminished in the least and they refused to give him anything more for pain, even though the two doses he had already gotten that day were the lowest doses possible. My father spent 12 hours in an excruciating amount of pain after a major heart surgery because these nurses refused to help him manage his pain like they should have. If this continues in the morning, we will have no choice but to transfer him to another hospital. Letting a man suffer in an unbearable amount of pain is cruel and unwarranted. I will be filing a complaint with this hospital first thing in the morning. I will say, the entire staff of Phoebe Putney, save for one of his nurses, were incredibly nice, but what good is niceness when you're forced to lay there in agony with no reprieve. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT use this hospital. Find one where the staff actually CARES about the well-being of their patients. I am truly disgusted with their lack of compassion. read more

I just give :Phoebe ER" one star they didn't deserve,absolutely horrible facility for people needing medical care.I first went over to Community Care,right across the street from the ER.All week long,I have been suffering with a severe attack of Acid Reflux,and none of the over-the-counter anacids were doing much good.So,my plan was to visit,Community Care,and hopefully be on my way in a short period of time with a prescription,but as it turned out,after seeing the NP,I was advised I needed to be seen at the ER,for an EKG,and some blood work to rule out anything with my heart. Well,needless to say,i didn't like it but decided I would go.I thought since it was early on a Sunday,afternoon,I shouldn't be out there to long,boy was I wrong. I checked in about 1:15 PM,and wasn't called to the back until 7:15,some 6 hours later. While sitting out in the waiting area,I saw at least three other people leave,one of the had been there since 11AM that morning,longer than I had,and had not been seen. When they finally did call me,and I got to my room,they told me,they were hooking me up to a heart monitor,but another 30 minutes pass by,and all I could hear,is a bunch of nurses/staff running their mouths,and I'm sure that's what they had been doing the whole time I was patiently sitting out in the waiting room,waiting to be seen. So,seeing where things were going,I told them,I had a certain time to be out of there,and what I had to do,so very "flippant" to told me,I had the option of signing out,and brought in the discharge form for me to sign. This was really an awful experience for me,and I had to leave without getting the medical care I so badly needed,and all those hours just wasted,but after reading all these negative,but "so true" reviews on here,I can see I'm not the lone ranger here. OMG...The absolute WORST! The ER room is horrible, I drove in from another state when my college student had a seizure. It took them forever to get her back for treatment, yes had another seizure while IN the ER "WAITING" for an excessive amount of time and they did nothing. It wasn't until I went on a rampage that started with "What kind of damn hospital is this, my child will die out here" before care was finally provided. sadly other people who had been waiting longer then us remarked "Yes ma'am, you did what needed to be done, this is killer Pheobe" Hospital administration need to be ashamed and hire more staff and physicians if they can't keep up. Only giving a 1 star because I have to. This is the worst hospital I've ever dealt with. They can't get medications right that my grandma takes on regular basis to cover her pain, arthritis, and gerd. Won't give her anything but tylenol. They didn't even tell us she had a uti, had to ask when they hung up antibiotics. Today she was choking out of the blue having not ate or drank anything and my husband had to flag down nursing who 4 of them ran in including I think ems and all stared at me and the sitter sitting her up in the bed hitting her back while they all watched and didn't lay a finger on her. Meanwhile she's turning purple and is scared to death. It took me breaking down in the hallway to get the Dr and respitory called. On January 24, 2019 My mother was here very sick from kidney failure. She also could not swallow form having a very sore throat and pneumonia. I received the a phone call from a very unprofessional and cold hearted Dr. Barnhart. A real doctor would have come to her room and explained her options after failing a swallow test. After all she had a sore throat and lots of phlegm from the pneumonia. Of course she failed. She's 86! But he wanted to send her home to starve! He did offer a peg tube. Or go home on hospice and starve?? She was very confused as to what was offered her. He never came in and explained anything to her or her family. We kept trying to get answers from her nurses. Mom opted for hospice. She was able to take ice chips. She asked for some broth. She was told NO! Before telling mom what was going on the family tried to meet to discuss all options. We had two small children with us that just got out of school and were waiting for rides to other caregivers. We chose to wait downstairs in the lobby for the caregivers to come get the children. It was bitter cold that day. We were met by a very hostile black lady telling us to get out that children were not allowed in the hospital. We tried to explain to her what was going but she refused to accommodate us or try to listen to what we were trying to do. We were all upset and crying. She threatened to call security. We told her to go ahead. Security comes strutting up screaming for us to leave the building all the while we were trying to explain what we were trying to do. Another black person. We are white. Yes I'm saying there was racial tension here. Phoebe Putney hospital is cruel! A little understanding and accommodation is all we asked for! We were denied this. We stood outside the hospital in the bitter cold discussing our mothers end of life options. I don't want an apology! I want heads to roll! No one should have to go that! August my Dad was in Phoebe for knee replacement and had to have assistance to go to restroom. He is a geriatric patient that pain meds alter his mental status. Well he pooed on himself and I told the nurses and waited and waited and waited until I wasn't going to wait longer because I didn't want my Dad laying in it in the first place so I asked a lady in a different color scrub how can I get someone to get him cleaned up because it was over an hour, she went to someone and before you know it there were 2 in his room cleaning him up! I appreciate that lady in the ceil blue scrubs ! Now my Dad is back in from a fall and had a rod and pin in hip. Well it took just over 11 hours for him to get to a room from the ED. Phoebe was so busy that they were doing patient histories in hallway of ED! Now he has 2 pulmonary embolisms albeit small and the nurses take their time because they are at nurses station gossiping although not all of them just a select few ones and when you go out and ask for something they pop off at you like it is an inconvenience! I swear if Lee County gets a hospital there WILL be a waiting list all the time. read more
