Phoenix Perennials have a large plant nursery in East Richmond. They've got lots of small cactuses, one of which I bought. Unfortunately, they only had adult Peace Lilies. I bought another small indoor plant (forgot name) but it's an easy care kind. The plant does better when abandoned than taken care of, which was perfect for my bathroom. My sister wanted to get a few Venus Flytrap but they didn't have any so she put her name down for wait list. She ordered two! They've got red and green available soon. Plants are healthy. I enjoyed my visit here. I'll come again in the future! read more

First time going to this place and they have a great selection of indoor and outdoor plants for spring gardening. This place also has plants that you would not see elsewhere such as a Mountain Turtle plant or a pink guava tree. They have a great selection of cactuses as well as roses. Everything is organized and labelled. They also have "master' gardeners where you can ask questions to. This place is huge so it takes time to get around. Parking is free, but limited. There is free side street parking. The only downside is that the plants are on the pricier end. Saying this, they carry selections that you don't see anywhere else. Plus, they have a small discounted area for plants that need "extra care and love." read more

I love this place. I first started getting into gardening/plants towards the end of last year, and I actually partly blame Phoenix Perennials for it. This place is a hidden little slice of paradise for anyone that loves to garden. I started by buying a citrus tree for my balcony. I loved the tree so much, I kept going back. My purchases slowly branched out into their succulents and agave, and finally led me to full on flower/shrub gardening. Any time I have ever been unsure of a plant's care, I could ask almost any of the "Phoenicians" (what the employees call themselves) and I would have a full care plan ready to go. I love coming to this place for the unusual as well. The succulents I purchased are often harder to find in other stores. My New Zealand Lemonade tree? I have never seen it outside of the internet. They also do pre-orders for their more unusual and rare specimens. I can't wait until I have an actual yard to go back and plant some more. Go check them out. Don't be afraid to interrupt and ask your questions to the employees (They are always nice, but never seem to just stay still. They are constantly tending and working on your future plants.) I'm going to cultivate my garden, although I don't think this is exactly what you mean. Hoping to find a couple of specific perennials, and varieties of such, I decided to come here. Heather and lavender. That's what I came for. Unfortunately, they had no heather at all. None. Nada. Zip. Zero. It was not listed on their webpage under the latin name, but I thought that it was possibly omitted, since most online inventory listings are often erroneous. In this case, it was not. I ended up finding it at Home Depot and Canadian Tire of all places. Yeah, a little disappointed. That said, they do have an awful lot of other plants. They just didn't have what I was looking for. April 9/19: Total disappointment! The most unwelcoming garden centre ever. There was almost nothing there and no one to ask. Esp galling when I had wasted time at the mail order link only to discover that shipping means an additional whopping $35! Our plan was to visit and buy on site. Ha! Prices are sky-high. Hard to hear yourself think over the constant roar of airplanes - not exactly the pastoral paradise one looks for in a garden centre. Worst of all, the place is a dangerous obstacle course with multiple hillocks proprietors haven't bothered to smooth out. Very hostile. I leave this comment here in case someone does trip and fall and wants to sue as they should. Happily, the day was not a complete loss. We biffed off to the superior in every way Prickly Pear in Steveston Village, see http://www.pricklypear.ca/, which though early in the season already features burgundy red geraniums as well as lovage and the strongest lemon thyme I've ever smelled. The rain today has given the garden a sweet lemony fragrance. PP never disappoints. read more

Do not buy dahlias or tomorrow or order online from this group. They are rude and condescending and the product you get is subpar. The tomatoe plants they gave me ( terrible experience) were spindly and weak and way more expensive than other places. read more

I just received two cartons of plants from Phoenix--delivered by Canada Post to rural Nova Scotia in the middle of a heatwave--and the plants are in PERFECT condition. Thriving, sturdy, not a leaf out of place. One of the clematis was even in bloom and the flowers were intact, open, and delighted to see me! I am simply amazed at the quality and care. read more

STAFF are SO rude. Went in to buy a mother day gift. Was no welcomed by ay staff.. no one explained to me that they had a "no backpack rule". 15 minutes into me walking around a very rude lady told me I was not allowed to have my purse backpack on and to go put it in my car.. so ridiculous. There are also no signs stating where you can walk around in the nursery so rude staff will also tell you if your in the wrong area left a bad taste in my mouth. Will not return. read more

For avid gardeners, Phoenix Perennials is Mecca. They offer one of the largest collections of perennials and specialty plants in Canada - over 4000 different varieties. These are cultivars that you won't see coming and going at every hardware store's garden centre. Truth be told, you kind of have to know a little something about plants to not feel completely overwhelmed there, but the plants are arranged for the most part alphabetically by their Latin name and by their light requirements. Efforts are made to have colour photos by all of the plants so even if you are buying them before they are at their peak, you can still see what they will look like when they are in season.They also have a lot of nursery staff around the premises to ask questions and point you in the right direction. I take advantage of their frequent buyer program - buy 10 get 1 free and subscribe to their online newsletter which gives seasonal information, special events and special deals. They used to be extremely pleasant and helpful to deal with. It appears that Covid has changed that completely. I won't buy from them again. The staff is unacceptably in your face rude. TheIr emails (after you buy ore orders and they have your money) are not exactly polite either. I am not sure how to short form my issues but if you have any challenges at all their response will be to tell you how wrong you are. If you have the nerve to show them their own emails etcetera backing up your issue they get even worse. I've had a staff member wave their hand in my face and tell me he isn't helping me because I came to pick up my plants as instructed. Clearly they don't communicate well with each other either because the on site staff didn't know the email to pick them up had been sent out. They fight with each other in front of you. Then they gave me the wrong variety of plant. I ordered two plants on pre order so either the staff that was so unhappy to see me or the supplier mixed up a tag. They both also had disease (blight) already on them. When I contacted customer service it took a few days but they responded with a long winded explanation about how there's no way they gave me the wrong plant, I was just a bad gardener who took such poor care of it that it looked nothing like the variety I ordered. They know so much about plants that they can recognize different tomato varieties at a young stage just by their leaves. So no way it was mixed up, it must be me. Even though I sent them photos. Everyone got disease this year I just don't understand the weather. I also don't understand about sun requirements, fertilizers or gardening in general. Just as a side note I've been gardening since I was old enough to hold a shovel so this demoralizing response was way off. If I was a novice gardener this may have been way more upsetting. Also since they don't recall the incident where their staff was so badly behaved it didn't happen. They made no effort to retain my business or offer me anything for the trouble the diseased and incorrect plant caused. It was basically an F off have a nice day kiss off. Also if you pre order and they don't have your items for any reason they won't give you a refund only a gift slip for the amount you paid, not including tax. There are other places to spend your money, especially during this pandemic that will really appreciate your business and not treat you like you are a pain in their butt. I don't recommend them at all. Unless you picked on me in high school, then by all means shop here like crazy. read more

Such a cool place for all things green and colorful! It's situated in what I would call Richmond's back country, with all the farms and sparsely situated industrial buildings. But it's the perfect setting for this huge nursery with an abundance of plant life. You can spend many hours in here admiring all the growing things, with the help of the knowledgeable staff. I always like coming to garden centers and things of the like, especially outdoor ones such as this because you usually meet people and workers that really love what they do, it's their passion. They are always so eager and willing to give advise and tidbits of information from their own experiences and their vast knowledge of the natural world. This place is beautiful in the midst of fall, I bet it's awe inspiring in the midst of spring, so I'll definitely have to take a trip here during the season of renewal. St3Fin read more

Lots of plants and plenty of bees, so bring your Epi pen if you're allergic to them. Also they have gourds and things for sale... maybe it's because it's october. But maybe it's because gourds are fascinating plants that everyone should enjoy on a day-to-day basis. The staff are also helpful and friendly, especially for someone like me, who is not a gardener at all (I lost my Green thumb in an industrial accident... so don't judge me too harshly). Phoenix was not as far into the wilds of Richmond as I'd expected, so good proximity to Vancouver. Ample parking with dedicated overflow area. Amazing selection of plants, very nicely laid out and organized. I'll admit to being overwhelmed by the sheer number of plants, but the staff are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and generous with their time. It was a great first time experience and I will definitely go back. Highly recommended. read more

After being terribly disappointed with Ikea's live plant selection, we popped over to Phoenix Perrenials. 5 min drive over. I'm soooooo glad we did. Not only did they have buy 1 get 1 on all their succulents and a few other types of plants, the service was amazing. So many interesting plants that we've never seen before. Since I am not a gardener, Gary asked me what I liked and then designed a container garden for my deck. Each pot has more than four sun loving perennials (beautiful flowers mixed with evergreen bushes) and he suggested using a Plant Nanny in each pot to make watering easier. read more
