This is a beautify nursery/gift store in the heart of Steveston. For you Seattle-ites out there, this place is a LOT like Molbak's in Woodinville (albeit a lot smaller). They have a similar vibe, with similar product lines: along with their flowers and seedlings and potted plants and garden statuary, they also have lovely household accessories and hostess gift items (high-end hand soaps and lotions and potions and room sprays, candles, decorative knick-knacks galore). If you're looking for glassed orb hanging terrariums or any kind of cacti, this is the place to go, for sure. They had tons of those items here. It was busy when we visited and the staff were all busy with customers, which was fine with us as we just wanted to browse. I did like how, when a wheelchair-bound patron knocked over a bunch of plaques, the employees all told her not to worry, no big deal (the customer was mortified), and they really downplayed the whole thing (which made a huge clatter when the display fell over. I'm not sure if there was any breakage), and the staff rushed over to pick up the pieces and put the items back on display, and reassuring the customer that all was well. It was nice to see their compassion. read more

My mom had an extremely horrible experience today. One of your older female employees literally jumped back when my mom wanted to ask a question. She didn't do this to any of the non-asian customers before her nor did she enforce masks with the Caucasian male next to her. I understand that we are going through tough times but if it isn't enough for the Asian community, being ostracized like that is just plain disrespectful. Literally jumping backwards and flicking her hand out is not necessary at all. My mask had a double mask and maintained a safe distance apart. None of the previous customers who spoke with her distanced themselves and she was fine with them. After being a customer here for over 20 years, you bet we won't support your business anymore. read more

This place fills me with happiness. They always have a great seasonal selection, and the staff is very knowledgable. Especially excellent variety of succulents on hand (my favourites). They also have two lovely black and white tuxedo cats (who are sisters) who live onsite. We always love searching the store and garden area to find both cats each time we visit. read more

I really like the quaint area of Steveston and this cool garden shop fits the scene. It has a nice moderate selection of unique plants. Cool small selection of succulents, zebra plants and some fun giftware as well. Lots of neat statues and Moai garden sculptures too, a little pricey but cool anyway! Whenever I visit I always have to get something. This place has a great location and when in season it's usually busy so time your visit right. read more

I just left this store. 3 employees in store, but zero service. I walked around for 10 minutes and no one made any eye contact or greeted me, even when I stood right by them. I think they don't like Asians maybe? Because the other customer (Chinese) was ignored as she asked for help 2x. Hope that's not why. Shame on you Prickly Pear! That was the only other customer in store. Awful! Also their prices are 40-100% higher than other shops. read more

What a gorgeous garden centre! Now that I have a house, I've started to have an interest in landscaping. I have been to a few of the big box stores (generally poorer quality plants) and some of the local greenhouses to try and pick out things for the yard. The Prickly Pear is one of my favorites so far! The garden centre has a large selection of plants and flowers and the hanging baskets are the nicest ones I have seen in my search so far with unique mixes of flowers and very full - option to have a plastic or wooden basket as well. Prices are steeper than most where the plastic planters are $39.99 each and the wooden ones are $49.99 each. For planting, they have the basic geraniums, mums, etc... but have a lovely mix of other unique ones. Large selection of decorative pots and planters. Helpful staff and ample parking at the back. Wonderful place to shop if you're in the area! read more

Disclaimer: I am not an avid gardener but I though there was a great selection of plants, many of which I've never seen/heard of, or have only seen one variety of. They had rows and rows of flowers, herbs, bushes, and even moss outside and flower bulbs and other seeds indoors. Because I don't really garden, I mostly enjoyed the variety of things they sell in addition to plants like funny magnets, door signs, even door knobs! I saw animal salt shakers, a plant pot in the shape of a canvas sneaker, greeting cards, figurines, and lots of plates and dishes. The best part though, was the resident cat we met lounging on the cashier counter. She was very open to being petted and did not mind all the hustle and bustle around her. I think the Prickly Pear is a fun place to visit, even if you don't garden, especially if on the first time you've been to Steveston. read more

Could be more friendly when you enter the store. I like many things about the place, and the selection is excellent. However, I feel like I'm ignored when I am there. Even if you are the only one in the store, they don't even say hello. I don't like to be badgered but, I do like to be acknowledged. Anyway, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and deters me from going very often. read more

They have a great selection of herbs here in the spring (more cultivars of mint and rosemary than I've ever seen for sale in one place, for example), and there's an extremely adorably kitty who lives here and hangs out around patrons too. Prickly Pear is a lovely nursery. It has a huge variety of plants to satisfy your plant-lover's every desire. My Mother loved exploring. Even my Dad who normally hates flowers was delighted by many of the pots and even asked to be photographed with them. The flower arrangements are beautiful. Prickly Pear is super-close to the bay and located near major shopping areas. We grabbed Starbucks coffee across the street and headed over here. read more

I agree with some of the reviews. Service isn't great. I walked in and didn't get a warm welcome or acknowledgement. I did notice they say "hi" to certain customers, but I was basically ignored. I took a long time choosing my plants and the staff would chat with each other, but never once did they ask if I was doing okay or needed help. They would help only if I approached them to ask questions. They have a nice selection with reasonable prices. I also like how they have gifts. However, I did find some of their plants on shelf really old (like they have been sitting there forever) and some dying. read more

This is a really beautiful store and has plenty of variety for all kinds of gardeners. However, customer service does not exist here, another person mentioned that maybe they don't like Asians, well I am white and I they didn't seem to like having my business either. At the till they just ring you up, no smiling, no hello, no how are you?....nothing, then take your money with their dirt filled hands and give you back your change in the same manner. It's amazing that businesses like this can survive with such bad customer service. read more

Stumbled upon this place in the area and decided to buy some seeds as a present for my friend across the border who loves to garden. The center is huge, homely and very inviting on either a sunny or rainy day. Customer service could be a little warmer. Prices were okay. read more
