The Phoenix Rising play in a league a notch below the MLS. So I wasn't really interested. What changed my mind? Dollar beer night. That'll do it for me. I stopped by on a Saturday evening for this incredible promotion... one they do every couple of months. That's not a typo. You can drink Modelo for a dollar a pop. There's no trick. Quality beer for old school prices. Because I knew I would be knocking them down, I Ubered. The Uber drop off area is a bit of a ways away from the stadium. I had to walk five or so minutes. No biggie. Beyond the beer, which is incredible in itself, the food wasn't half bad. I had a burger and fries from Aioli burger. The burger was solid, especially by stadium prices. The fries... meh and a relatively small portion. I also got a pretzel with cheese which was about average. It's stadium food so I didn't have high hopes. My seats were in the GA Supporter area which is where you want to be. They're affordable and that means you're sitting in the same section as the Phoenix Rising hype squad (I'm sure they have an official name). They chant, they sing, they play the drums, and they release colored smoke when the Rising score. It really adds to the vibe. Soccer fandom at its best. When you combine the affordable ticket prices, the crowd, and the dollar beers, it was a great night. The Rising won too, and scored several goals, so that was nice too. I'll be back! You guessed it... the next dollar beer night lol.

With the ticket, you get 10 drink samples. I tried drinks from Canteen, Cruz tequila, and many others. We got enough alcohol to have a very good time. We also got to try food from the Sandbar (spicy mac and cheese...surprisingly delicious), El Reye de la Torta (always delish), Si Senor (Really good green chile...strong jalapeno flavor, but yummy), and America's Taco Shop (delish pork tacos). I had the added bonus of getting some Yelp sunglasses....fabulous! Overall, we had several hours of fun and entertainment and didn't have to stand in line for crazy amounts of time to do so. We also got to meet Xhibit...so that was....weird. I would go again next year.

There was also lots of fair like food but with more options. A few stages for music but we didn't go late for headliners, there was the military area that had lots on display, a cowboy are with the OK coral fight going on, Indian area, Hispanic area, art area, well every type of area that you can think of.

2010 marks the Fifth Annual Great Cajun Cook-Off & Food Fest, but it was my very first time…read moreattending, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. Ever since living in Louisiana and falling in love with Southern food and culture, I periodically need to get my dose of gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish and the like. This festival did not disappoint! First off, location was perfect. The Heritage Square and surrounding Science Park made for a wonderful backdrop to showcase local businesses that feature Cajun and Southern cuisine. Food was inclusive with the ticket price (the bare bones option runs about $25 per adult) which had to be pre-purchased on-line through the Cactus Cajun Foundation. And there were plenty of booths from which to sample all matters of goodies. I tried at least three types of gumbo, from Ocean Trail at Talking Resort, D'Licious Dishes, and Cajun Seafood Corner. Rarely did anyone skimp on the spices, but if you still preferred it hotter, bottles of Louisiana hot sauce were ubiquitous. I also enjoyed crawfish and deep fried turkey from Arizona Crawfish Company... awesome! The barbequed smoked chicken from Stacy's Smokehouse was quite tasty, and the most generous portion of the evening. This was quite an education on where to find Cajun food and Southern-influenced dining in the greater Phoenix area. This included not only Cajun-themed restaurants, many of which I have sought out and visited, but lesser known venues that feature signature Cajun/Creole dishes on their menus. I was thrilled to discover a brand new business that is bringing a Cajun food truck to the area! Jamburritos Cajun Grille served their house jambalaya which was near-perfect with its combination of spices, rice, chicken and andouille sausage. I may turn into a rabid Twitter follower of this food truck once they go live. Phoenix is slowly embracing the food truck craze and this is definitely a step in the right direction. I need not add too many more details so other Yelpers who attended can tell you what a fun event this was. The bands playing on two different stages really kept the vibe fun and light, and I am already looking forward to returning next year. Hats (and beads) off to the organizers of this annual event who you know really care because they made sure to have plenty of Abita Beer available!

I was there while they were straightening out that little situation & the natives were getting wrestles wanting their promised liquor. 2. The judging of the Cook-off needs to be more organized. They were not handing out the voting information out to everyone or explaining it correctly at the entrances. On top of that they had pitted strange things together, like Black Beans vs Red Velvet Cake.... HUH??!! Seriously, at least do categories & keep main dishes separated from desserts,,, I'm just saying!

This…read morefestival that began in 1984 has more vendors and more outdoor space than when it was held at its prior location-Heritage Square. The surroundings are simpler and bare at the park but droves of people still make the trek here to experience the culture and the food of Japanese heritage. One stand I always visit is the Arizona Buddhist Church. I buy their homemade mochi manju (soft round mochi with sweet anko dark bean paste inside) and their shiroan mochi manju (has a sweet white bean paste filling.) It's like the ones my grandma used to make. Tips:arrive early for the best parking options. :bring some greenbacks-some vendors only accept cash. :sunscreen-there aren't many areas with shade. :eat the manju when it is fresh, the same day or else it hardens. :bring water and bring a bag if you plan on purchasing any goods. Some vendors run out of bags and you may be stuck carrying your things and not have enough hands to enjoy the food items ;) Leave your worries at the gate and just have fun at this outdoor festival.

There's two sides of vendors with food and cute things to buy, I do wish that they had signs saying their form of payment because everyone had different forms and you don't find out until you are buying something and the lines are long sometimes and the sun was super bright today. Make sure you put on sunscreen and wear sunglasses. FOOD: there was pita jungle, dumplings, hot dogs, dominos pizza (cash only), pop corn, cotton candy, ice cream and cakes. DRINKS: coffee Goat, a few stands of lemonade and sodas and on the center of the park there was a couple of breweries you have to pay to enter that part. Big stage with entertainment, kids dancing, bands sponsored by BIG O TIRES AHWATUKEE! They also had a Santa stand starting at noon where you can take pictures with him and tell h what you want for Christmas. The line was long all day.

The infield was tarp-ed but they forgot to cover the left field foul area. So after the pouring rain and the games moved to the next day the left field foul area was coned off and declared out of bounds and dead ball area. The grounds crew dropped the ball. The tickets were $10 per day and there were no programs. oops!. Hot Coffee $5 for a regular size coffee and it was luke warm. Holy crap! more than Starbucks. Well everything at the concession stand was $5 even a bag of sunflower seed. The concession people should wear masks and carry weapons they are robbing the customers. When you come into the stadium they make you get rid of all your drinks either they are under TSA directives, or they expect all people to have spiked drinks, or they want to make you by the $5 coffee soda, or water. The outfield fences are short 210 ft in straight center and 202 down the line. No wonder the ASU team has hit over 40 homers this season already. The best part of the stadium is that the PA plays great music.
